Ed you got any news on Paul Tisdale appointment?

{Ed007's Note - Surely that's not serious? What next, a monorail around Celtic Park?

What do you think the team for tonight will be?

I am going:

Schmeichel
AJ
CCV
Trusty
Taylor

Callum
Hatate
Engels

Maeda
Idah
Kuhn

The only change I can see happening to that team is Idah being replaced with Maeda and Jota starting on the wing.

Personally I would start Bernardo for this one as he offers more defensively.

I’m sure that’s the team Brendan will pick.

Our 6 month accounts got released today, here is a quick summary and some comments.

Celtic's interim report for the six months ending December 31, 2024, presents the following key points:

Operational Highlights:

14 home fixtures, consistent with the previous year.
Participation in the UEFA Champions League group stages.
Post-period qualification for the play-off round of the Men's UEFA Champions League.
Winners of the Premier Sports Cup 2024.
Financial Highlights:

Revenue: Decreased by 2.1% to £83.5 million (2023: £85.2 million) .
Profit from Trading: Reduced to £26.9 million (2023: £32.0 million) .
Profit from Player Transfers: Increased significantly to £21.5 million (2023: £2.6 million) , driven by the sale of seven players.
Profit Before Taxation: Rose to £43.9 million (2023: £30.3 million) .
Player Acquisition Costs: Increased to £28.1 million (2023: £12.9 million) .
Cash Reserves: Slight decrease to £65.4 million (2023: £67.3 million) , attributed to significant transfer spending and infrastructure investments.
Chairman's Statement:

The slight decline in revenue is attributed to variations in match composition and deferred UEFA revenues, which are expected to be recognized in the second half of the financial year. The decrease in trading profit is due to higher labor costs, increased utility expenses, and substantial stadium maintenance. The notable rise in profit before taxation is primarily due to substantial gains from player transfers. The club emphasizes its commitment to continuous improvement, particularly in strengthening the first-team squad.

Transfers and Investments:

In January 2025, Celtic secured the permanent signing of Jota, acquired Jeffrey Schlupp on loan, extended Kasper Schmeichel's contract, and arranged for Keiran Tierney's return in July 2025. The club also invested in infrastructure projects, including developments at Barrowfield, Lennoxtown, and Celtic Park.

Current Performance:

As of the report's release, Celtic leads the SPFL by 13 points, has won the Premier Sports Cup, and advanced to the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup. In the Champions League, the team finished 21st out of 36 in the group stage and is set to face Bayern Munich in the knockout round.

Outlook:

The club anticipates a seasonal downturn in earnings in the second half of the financial year, primarily due to the timing of European competition revenues and player trading activities. Despite this, Celtic remains optimistic about its strong position and is committed to ongoing investments in the squad and infrastructure to ensure continued success.

Overall, Celtic demonstrates a robust financial and operational standing, with strategic investments aimed at sustaining and enhancing future performance.

I think we will break our record revenue this season. To date our record us just under 130M.

However, this season I can see us reach 150M+. The reason I say that is we have change to CL format, which means extra games. We have qualified for the knockout stage of the CL. Not only that we have generated a massive amount in transfers. No other club in Scotland will get anywhere close to that and will be lucky if they get 50% of that.

With all that money coming in, I reckon a left back and striker are essential in the summer and it is important to get them early with the CL qualifiers to contend with.

Weejoe

1.) 10 Feb 2025 12:19:38
I read last week that we could make a turnover of £150M this financial year ?.

2.) 10 Feb 2025 12:40:53
Lads, how much will we make just for the Bayern game. Any idea?

3.) 10 Feb 2025 13:43:40
My priority Joe is still a quality CB, am actually hoping Burnley don't get promoted and they CBs become available they have been immense surprised pub league not been sniffing about so far.

4.) 10 Feb 2025 13:51:42
I don't see an exact figure but I don't think the prize money for this knockout game is much, if anything. However, I know we will have a massive match day revenue and possible sponsorship and TV money. My guess is somewhere in the region of 5-10 million.

5.) 10 Feb 2025 15:23:23
We can’t sustain a £150m turnover tho unless we are guaranteed CL group stage every year on top of 2 or 3 hefty player sales.

It’s a good figure but ultimately means nothing, within our control is a figure of about 80/ 90m, realistically that’s all we can plan for.

But yes, we have signed a left back anyway, and no doubt will sign a striker (even though I’d be astonished if they were better than Maeda and Idah)

6.) 10 Feb 2025 17:42:50
Aye, CL and player trading are essential to keep progressing. Think it was 2 years ago out revenue was around 125M and that was without significant player sales but we did have CL. We are well above 80-90M even without CL and player sales.

One thing I have been wishing we did more often, is to put crosses into the box from deep. Ralston done it today and Yang scored from it. I also liked the fact we played some dinked balls over the top today.

When you have that variation in your play it is extremely difficult to defend, as the defenders don't know where it is going to come from next.

Weejoe

1.) 09 Feb 2025 10:40:52
Always been one of Ralston assets that he doesn’t need three touches. When he overlaps, he gets the ball whipped in, quite often excellent delivery and before defenders can set themselves.

2.) 09 Feb 2025 15:40:20
Ralston excels at crosses and assists and it's very unfortunate he has AJ in front of him or he would feature a lot more. Still it's great to have both of them at the club vying for the position.

3.) 09 Feb 2025 15:44:39
HOPe Taylor can see the role Ralston plays for us and realise evn tho doesn’t play every wk he's still a very important part of the team and a still think Taylor will play evn more games, hopefully gets the contract he deserves.

08 Feb 2025 19:24:21
Thought yang played well today. Hopefully that gives him confidence to kick on.

Weejoe

1.) 08 Feb 2025 20:29:21
Yang had a good confident spell last season and then he got that awful Red Card at Tynecastle, which resulted in him losing momentum.

2.) 08 Feb 2025 21:05:19
I agree Buzz shocking decision for the sending off. More so from then we have seen almost identical situations going unpunished or at most a yellow card and the SFA coming out with dribble to try to justify it.

3.) 08 Feb 2025 23:10:59
Yang looks far far better on the left hand side.

Kenny looks promising but needs to learn the tactical side of the role and how to press effectively.

I am sure he will make an appearance at some point tonight.

We need yang for cover. At the moment we have:

Kuhn
Maeda
Jota
Yang
Forrest

In his defence, I think he has improved and works hard for the team. I just think he needs a goal and fans to get behind him to give his confidence a boost.

We either need a new striker to replace kyogo or move maeda to striker and get another winger.

However, I don't want us to overpay for one because of desperation and would prefer a loan if that was the case. Preferably with an option to buy.

We can't stop it I'm afraid. Even playing them is no guarantee they won't do it. Remember Liam Miller left us for man utd and would not sign a new contract.

Celtic have rarely done well with left backs. Tierney being the only top class one I can recall since I began watching Celtic in the early 80s.

{Ed007's Note - Tom Boyd?}

Hatate for McCowan
Maeda for Jota
Kuhn for Yang
Ralston for AJ.
