Hi Ed, how are you doing?
Do you know if there's any truth in the story that Leeds Utd are trying to sign our young Norwegian CB Hjelde and 17yr old Mathew Anderson?

I appreciate it's impossible to hold onto every young player with potential, but on the back of the bhoys we lost last season this would be a blow.

Pedro71

{Ed007's Note - Yes it's true mate. It's a shame about Hjelde as he looks quality and is only going to get better. I just said to Paul that I think he will become a better player than Ajer.}

1.) 24 Jul 2021 11:55:52
Since you're saying it's a shame, does that mean he's looking likely to go then Ed?

{Ed007's Note - Yeah it looks like he'll be making the move.

EDITED 14:30. Celtic have supposedly offered Hjelde a new improved contract to fend off interest in him.}

2.) 24 Jul 2021 12:18:01
As always, thank you for your response Ed. That was my fear as Leeds apparently made an approach last season when he was on loan at Ross County.

Again, as I don't watch the reserves etc I'm not sure how accurate this is but some are referring to young Anderson as the next KT.

{Ed007's Note - Leeds have been tracking Hjelde for a while yes mate. I think every young LB is going to the next KT eh?}

3.) 24 Jul 2021 12:40:21
I was thinking about it today. With Welsh, the swede, Murray, Hjelde, Julian comingback and us looking for another CB how can both Murray and Hjelde expectNy playing time? As a club we should be doing all we can to integrate the academy but we also need to win now. Reslly stuck between a rock and a hard place.

4.) 24 Jul 2021 12:41:58
It's getting quite worrying that amount of young talent we seem to lose, why not stick them on 3 or 4 year deals, they don't need to be earning top dollar and reward them if they make the grade.

{Ed007's Note - Most of it isn't down to money, Mally, it's down to the youngsters not being given pathways to progress into the first team. The club had no long term plans for youth players while other clubs set out exactly what's expected and where they see the player being in 1 year, 2 years etc etc until you're ready for the first team.}

5.) 24 Jul 2021 13:18:13
Ed, u saying both these guys got better chance of playing first team at Leeds before us, can’t see it. Lost in the U23s . All about £££.

{Ed007's Note - Try reading what Mally said again, then read my reply again.}

6.) 24 Jul 2021 13:22:25
Yeah your right ED I worked with a boy from Saltcoats last year and he knew Liam Morrison and his family he said Bayern put on a big presentation for him with highlights of him playin and where they see his flaws and attributes and exactly how they were going to work him into the team eventually, they blew them away with it all. Celtic just gave him a contract offer, no effort put in . Although he did also say we offered him 700/ week and they offered him 5000/ week.

{Ed007's Note - A few of the youngsters that have moved on said the same kind of things, KP. Hopefully this is something that will change under Ange and McKay, other clubs have members of staff and that's their job - Fergal Harkin is Football Partnerships and Pathways Manager at Man City - to plan a route for players progression.}

7.) 24 Jul 2021 13:41:49
Without a doubt ED it’s something we need to look into sooner rather than later.

{Ed007's Note - 👍

8.) 24 Jul 2021 13:43:26
Thats a fair point ed, we should be giving them more of a chance instead of spending 2 mill on guys like bayo and shved.

{Ed007's Note - Or having guys like Bitton clogging up the bench and keeping youngsters out the squad.}

9.) 24 Jul 2021 14:08:07
Assuming what the guy you worked with said Kevpatrick is accurate, it comes down to professionalism and offcourse the internal structure of the club.

I'm staggered that given the crazy transfer fees that are being paid these days that we don't have a Fergal Harkin or equivalent - shortsighted verging on madness.

I hope Ange and Dominic McKay can ensure such a structure gets put in place to retain and nurture the young talent we have at CP.

{Ed007's Note - 👍

10.) 24 Jul 2021 15:41:30
I can’t guarantee what mark said was true but I believe he knows Morrison’s dad well and it was a conversation with him and he couldn’t speak highly enough about Munich. I couldn’t agree more with you about employing someone in that department, if any of these players we are losing go on to be superstars it saves us a fortune in transfer fees for mediocre players/ experiments in their positions but also we lose a fortune in what we would have got for them when eventually selling .

11.) 24 Jul 2021 17:22:15
100% Kevpatrick - Bayern have been (in my basic knowledge of European Football a very well, professionally run and successful team for the past, what, 40+ years anyway) .

We, Celtic, need to quickly understand we're competing with EVERY CLUB, IN EVERY LEAGUE not just those from Glasgow in order to build future success.

23 Jul 2021 09:17:29
Apparently Fraser Forster has knocked back a contract extension at Southampton.

Pedro71

1.) 23 Jul 2021 09:28:08
Personally, I think he had his chance Ped and left us high n dry. Obviously not saying last season would have been different if he had stayed, but it did create a big problem that we still haven't fixed. He made his decision (twice) to plump for Southampton, so bye-bye.

2.) 23 Jul 2021 09:36:08
They are reducing his wages to less than their number 2 McCarthy. Still too much for us. Another loan maybe. Pie in the sky I think.

3.) 23 Jul 2021 09:52:39
Love foster and no one can deny his shot stopping ability, I’m just not 100% big ange would want him as he doesn’t seem the type to be able to play in his system as sweeper keeper. My opinion id bite the hand off you but just unsure it’s not the media putting 2 and 2 together and losing their calculator.

4.) 23 Jul 2021 10:09:32
Agreed Nicky. I prefer my goalkeepers to be good with their hands than their feet but it's the way a lot of teams are going now and Forster wouldn't fit that style.

5.) 23 Jul 2021 10:16:03
First thing for me is keep the ball out and forster knows how to do that, barkas doesn't and he's no more than decent with his feet, no point being g great with your feet if you can't do basics.

6.) 23 Jul 2021 10:24:39
Forster for me every day of the week if he were available and wanted to come. HH.

7.) 23 Jul 2021 10:43:24
To be honest l don't care how good a keeper is with his feet. They can put it into row z for all l care. I want a keeper who is a great shot stopper, can take crosses and commend his box and back line. This whole rubbish of a keeper who can play out from the back does my head in. that's what the outfield players are for.

8.) 23 Jul 2021 11:06:15
All fair points Bhoys and, as always, I respect your views.

I thought the 'wall' was brilliant for us but maybe his time is past.

I'm not a great fan of 'sweeper keepers', maybe I'm getting old and set in my ways 😞 but I get that's what Ange and some other Managers want these days.

I seriously think that if we go into this season playing any of the 3 keepers we have on our books, we'll win nothing.

9.) 23 Jul 2021 11:46:13
Full agree pedro. Our keepers are not good enough.

10.) 23 Jul 2021 15:22:41
get on the phone to spurs and get joe hart on loan, great keeper.

11.) 23 Jul 2021 16:13:56
Totally agree I would be buzzing to get FF back and hope if it’s a genuine option ange can see past his “foot ability” lol.

12.) 23 Jul 2021 16:23:45
I think Hart's a great shout.

13.) 23 Jul 2021 17:35:41
Does anyone think that maybe Forster just didn’t fancy working with Lennon anymore and maybe that had an influence on a previous possible return?

14.) 23 Jul 2021 19:10:27
Hart's not been, if he ever was, a great keeper for a long, long, long time.

15.) 24 Jul 2021 13:31:30
I just don't see it with his wages. If he's unhappy about getting less money there then we won't be able to top what Southampton's offered. A few have mentioned him but I'd like us to go for Robin Olsen. Looked impressive at the Euros for Sweden and I'm sure his wages are about 14,000 which we could afford, might even be able to get a bit off that too.

22 Jul 2021 14:37:15
I've read today that Mechelen are working on a permanent deal to sign Shved.

Also, first time I've heard this one, but we're being linked with the Anderlecht GK, 28yr old Van Crombrugge. ☘🍀☘.

Pedro71

{Ed007's Note - We're only being linked to Hendrik van Crombrugge because he has came out and said he would love to sign for Celtic.}

1.) 22 Jul 2021 14:55:39
Definition of lazy journalism ED.

{Ed007's Note - It's actually not lazy, Kev it's clickbait to keep views/advertising revenue up.}

2.) 22 Jul 2021 15:03:35
But what's his views on catching footballs? Barkas was probably keen too.

3.) 22 Jul 2021 15:21:12
why not contact spurs and try to get joe hart on loan, i think that he wouldcome for a season.

4.) 22 Jul 2021 16:02:08
Fair do's Ed, they got me again 😢.

{Ed007's Note - 👍

5.) 22 Jul 2021 16:11:40
I know it's probably unrealistic but Jack Butland has been rotting on the palace bench I'm not even sure he's made a first team appearance bin 2 years I'd try our luck even Danny Ward of Leicester two class number 2 keepers who surly want to play. I'd even take Marshall Barkas is a lost cause he's never going to have the confidence to be our number one.

6.) 22 Jul 2021 18:23:23
Agree with you Samcfc1888, if we can see it then I'm sure big Ange can see it.

I'd like us to get Robin Olsen from Roma who can't get a game for love nor money.

7.) 22 Jul 2021 18:30:35
They click bait sites are brutal ED but still get me everytime haha.

{Ed007's Note - I used to be the same mate but eventually you'll get to know them and spot new ones a mile off.}

8.) 22 Jul 2021 18:33:06
Sam so strange you mentioned butland, I actually thought about him last night and checked were he was at, I thought he was outstanding everytime I saw him at Stoke.

9.) 22 Jul 2021 18:36:56
Ed, the clickbait detective 🕵️‍♂️.

{Ed007's Note -

via GIPHY

10.) 22 Jul 2021 19:46:41
Pedro 71 Olsen would be a great shout everytime I seen him play for Everton he looked solid made some class saves and he comes for a cross. He is definitely gettable I'm sure we looked at him before he signed for Everton, the GK position has been a real problem that needs out to bed I'm sure big Ange knows what he needs.

11.) 22 Jul 2021 21:05:04
It was a bit weird but were we not linked with a move for him two weeks after signing barkas? Maybe had a lightbulb moment after seeing him train and realise he is allergic to making saves.

21 Jul 2021 22:21:24
Now the 'Starman' has landed in Paradise, Ange, go and sign Robin Olsen (GK) #spineoftheteam.

Pedro71

1.) 21 Jul 2021 22:48:50
Still got £9m and spare change profit from Ajer let’s spend it all if required to get a top goalkeeper.
Surely there must be top class number 2’s at big clubs that’s head would be turned if we gave them the opportunity to join another big club but to actually play.

2.) 22 Jul 2021 03:29:38
You’re forgetting about Kyoto and Abada GGGG.

3.) 22 Jul 2021 07:02:16
Weewhitey, we have sold klimala, and frimpong recently. I think I’ve read we have brought in over 30 million since Christmas, I’m fairly confident we will have more to spend. The manager himself has stated he needs more bodies in the door as we are too thin on the ground regarding the squad.

4.) 22 Jul 2021 07:33:13
Bhoys, I posted yesterday having worked out we have something like 16M+ in the bank from this and the January transfer window combined.

We've got players still to buy for various positions BUT we've also got a few still to punt inc Eddy.

5.) 22 Jul 2021 07:37:19
Ate and over 50.000 St's and 3 replica strips!

6.) 22 Jul 2021 07:51:57
Laugh at the fag paper accounting from supporters. C.V. effected Celtic finances. No European ticket sale money, no merchandise or catering. The 3 million in refunds the support got reimbursed. The list goes on.
It's not as simple as. We sold x, y and x amount and have only bought z for x amount.

7.) 22 Jul 2021 07:56:34
Pedro71 we’ve got more than £16m, we got £13.5m for Ajer and was it not like £11m for Frimpong plus your deals for Klimala and Bayo.

8.) 22 Jul 2021 08:12:28
I read McD1888 that we lost a fair chunk of the 11M Frimpong fee due to the sell on percentage that was agreed when we signed him.

9.) 22 Jul 2021 08:16:22
Auf1888, you're right - CV affected every business in the land one way or another and Celtic has not immune to that.

10.) 22 Jul 2021 10:04:11
Alright Pedro probably did I think I did hear City had a sell on clause but then I heard we got him on the same type of deal as we signed Shaw and only payed the development fee.

11.) 22 Jul 2021 11:27:55
You have to go to season 17/ 18 when we last had a positive net spend on transfers. I can't see that changing now - especially as Auf says after the impact of lockdowns etc. Dom might be in but it's the same board and shareholders and they won't change their spots - we won't suddenly see a large net spend. What we hopefully will see with Dom in and Ange apparently having a big influence, is HOW the money is spent.

12.) 22 Jul 2021 12:33:37
Did we not sell Klimala at a loss .

13.) 22 Jul 2021 14:29:15
Agree with the rationale JimTim, we're never going to have a bottomless biscuit tin, therefore, the need to punt Eddy, Barkas, Bitton etc must be a priority in this window.

14.) 22 Jul 2021 18:44:33
Aye but how much revenue have we lost Quinn? You really think they’re just going to spend all the money on new players? I imagine some will be used to make up for some of the losses.

18 Jul 2021 23:22:44
Rumours suggesting Brighton are interested in Eddy and will soon have money to spend once they complete the 50M transfer of Ben White to Arsenal.

Pedro71

1.) 19 Jul 2021 07:44:46
@Pedro71 Godd Good add £20m to that and Eddie is theirs.

2.) 19 Jul 2021 07:49:06
What a come down that will be. Brighton, hardly a top club and if he wants a better one he better get his finger out in these games or he will be playing 8n front of feck all bet chip seeking seagulls.

3.) 19 Jul 2021 08:49:39
He’s got no intentions to play for us id get rid ASAP and put the money to good use.
If he goes to Brighton he’s got no winning ambitions but just in it for the money.

4.) 19 Jul 2021 10:48:13
Agreed Tim, would like him gone and 20M would get a replacement or two signed in his place with plenty to spare 😉.

5.) 19 Jul 2021 11:21:53
Play him in the qualifiers, then if he wants to go then he can. Have you seen ajeti play for us in the friendlies, eddy is a much better option in the way ange sets up.

6.) 19 Jul 2021 12:57:12
Rock and a hard place Quinn until we get more options in the team.

7.) 19 Jul 2021 17:13:35
I’d keep him for European qualifiers and hopefully if we progress to champions league group we can give him 12month extension that suits both parties.
In the likelihood we don’t make group then we sell in this window to highest bidder.
I don’t think Brighton is necessarily a move fuelled by money it’s the possibility of starting week in week out in a better league then if he proves it he moves to top 8 club there.

Just waiting for DD to bank roll Diego Costa for this season ☘.

Pedro71

03 Aug 2021 12:45:43
Bhoys, if Hart and McCarthy sign in the coming days what's the priority - Striker?

Thoughts?

Pedro71

1.) 03 Aug 2021 12:47:28
LB for me before anything.

2.) 03 Aug 2021 12:49:10
If we can get Hart and McCarthy, I would also want first choice fullbacks and a top striker to replace Eddy.

3.) 03 Aug 2021 13:07:17
Fullback, Striker and another first choice CB.

4.) 03 Aug 2021 13:12:22
Rb lb cb then striker.

5.) 03 Aug 2021 13:36:45
I think bhoys if we can secure Hart and McCarthy for next to nothing this week it leaves us with 3 weeks plus to go in this window, a few players still to leave and hopefully a few quid to spend on the rest of the defence plus a Striker.

6.) 03 Aug 2021 13:49:29
Left back for me.

7.) 03 Aug 2021 13:51:25
On the flip side, the more deadwood and want-away players we can sell or offload - the more funds and space for improvement.

8.) 03 Aug 2021 15:14:05
Mally I am with you on the order of positions needed We should never have got to this mess in any year It's almost a full team we have needed to sort out first team players not just cover totally unacceptable for the richest club in the league.

9.) 03 Aug 2021 15:45:08
We desperately need a new LB, RB another CB and another striker.
We need to get rid of Edouard, Christie, Bitton, Barkas and Bain.

03 Aug 2021 12:15:08
Spine of the team by the end of this week could be;-

GK - Hart
CB - Starfelt
CB -?
CM - CalMac
CDM - McCarthy
Striker -?

Pedro71

1.) 03 Aug 2021 12:38:34
Deffo need another commanding cb who has a bit of height and physique.

2.) 03 Aug 2021 12:44:04
I really would be happy enough with Welsh in there. i know he would be for a lot of supporters but for me he's shown enough and last season's experience will only being him on more, the striker for me would be nisbet all day long.

3.) 03 Aug 2021 15:50:36
The first thing l remember when Martin O'Neil came in was he got the spine of the side right. Douglas keeper, Joos Val CB, Lennon CM, Sutton CF. Yes there was big malby, lambert, larrson there but he got quality right down the middle of the side to add to what was there already.

03 Aug 2021 09:25:29
If/ when Joe Hart signs his contract to join Celtic, what do you think will be going through the minds of Bain and Barkas?

Pedro71

1.) 03 Aug 2021 09:35:16
That their teas oot ped, to be fair to Hart his cv is immense and at 34 that's still young for a keeper, he's got to be better.

2.) 03 Aug 2021 09:43:18
Probably what they should already know, that they have had several chances to claim the No1 spot and have 'let it slip through their grasp', with some unconvincing goalkeeping displays, although in their defense - they never had a decent one!

3.) 03 Aug 2021 09:55:02
They've had there chance more than they should, if there professional enough they'll know they weren't at the standard required. Same for any player in any position, if you don't play well enough eventually you'll be replaced, only with us it takes a lot longer 😂.

4.) 03 Aug 2021 10:12:25
I I was Bain or Barkas I would be thinking,
"Had several chances and blew them all! "

5.) 03 Aug 2021 10:56:20
I think bain will be happy being no2 barkas could be a different story and we should try and recuperate something at least.

6.) 03 Aug 2021 12:00:03
Hopefully this is the start of some serious transfer business - in both directions so we can get a grip on this season?

7.) 03 Aug 2021 12:00:07
100% Bhoys, I'm glad we've went out and signed Hart with the ability and experience he has.

We need a solid spine in this team,
* Hart (GK)
* Starfelt (CB)
*? (CB)
* CalMac (CM)
*? (Striker)

Liam, I agree Barkas will be away and I think that's the problem with Bain. We could end up with a No.2 that can't push Hart - Bains time at CP could be numbered.

8.) 03 Aug 2021 12:41:33
That's fair comment Pedro.

01 Aug 2021 15:13:20
Steak pie in the oven and the Wolfe Tones playing in the background - have a good Sunday Bhoys.

Pedro71

1.) 01 Aug 2021 15:33:34
Nice one Pedro.
I’m looking forward to having Our Beautiful Sunday’s Back. 👍🍀.

2.) 01 Aug 2021 16:32:14
I'm looking forward to having our Beautiful Celtic back asap. Patience of a saint required as it's not going to happen anytime soon. Hopefully Ange has his team built over this transfer window and the next.
