If we assume Rodgers still has a type when it comes to strikers, we could do a lot worse than look at Promise David from USG. He's 23, 6 foot 5, fast, strong and running riot in Belgium right now. He's also just committed to the Canadian National Team so maybe Johnston could have a wee word in his lug.

Kevbhoy

1.) 22 Apr 2025 15:03:42
The same with another Canadian striker 25 year old Jonathon David.
His Lille contract expires at the end of this season.
According to Salary Sport his wages were £36K a week with the French club.

2.) 22 Apr 2025 17:21:17
Half of Europe want Jonathan David We sadly have absolutely no chance of signing him. Good player right enough.

3.) 23 Apr 2025 19:36:29
We really need to get the targeted personnel spot-on in the summer as our last two big-money signings haven't exactly made an immediate impact or set the heather on fire.

4.) 24 Apr 2025 02:27:49
We would have no chance of signing david Buzz. As mentioned he will have his pick of basically any team in europe.

5.) 25 Apr 2025 17:49:59
I only mentioned him because Johnston could also have a “wee word in his lug”.

6.) 26 Apr 2025 11:01:18
Engels could maybe persuade de bruyne to join on a pay as you play for a season or 2.

7.) 26 Apr 2025 11:28:45
Or Nico Raskin.

Late night shout that Jusef Erabi the main target if final bid for Kvistgaarden fails. Lad's been dubbed "The Swedish Hulk" which could be interesting!

Kevbhoy

1.) 02 Feb 2025 07:45:33
If and it's a big if we don't bring in a striker and LB, do you think we will see BR getting annoyed with the board like he did in his first term.
The "we have a million wingers" springs to mind.

2.) 02 Feb 2025 08:20:51
He set his stall out very publicly when Kyogo left and made it clear he needed replaced like for like this window. Not sure he'd rinse them in public but you'd imagine he'd be raging if that happened.

3.) 02 Feb 2025 11:36:25
If we don't end the window on a high it will be absolutley unforgivable that we have a weakened squad from the start of the month especially as its our 1st CL knockout round in 13 years. If Brendan wanted to leave if this happens i wouldn't blame him.
Im getting the vibe itll be a LB and Forward on loans as Tierney and our Forward targets have fell through.

4.) 02 Feb 2025 13:28:03
I’ve really criticised the club several of last few windows, with hindsight I was wrong, so il reserve judgement, kyogo didn’t want to play for us, we sell our club as an opportunity that means when they want to go if a price is met they get to go, we don’t need a striker right now idah will score as will meada as cf ( his true position) , Forrest injured and palma gone we are weaker out wide even with jota, we also need a lb, let’s see what happens before end window.

{Ed007's Note - Rodgers won't play Maeda as a striker.}

5.) 02 Feb 2025 16:28:34
We'd lose so much from our style if Meada plays through the middle. Plus, that doesn't help the massive drop-off in quality from the bench which Jota was brought in to rectify.

6.) 02 Feb 2025 16:37:18
Is it the board or is it the manager?, when Ange was here transfers seemed to come in quicker.

7.) 02 Feb 2025 20:59:06
Maeda can be used as 3rd choice striker, still need two for rest of the season. seen it today jota replaced kuhn on right then idah off and maeda through middle and jota went left. Prefer jota left looks more natutral ?? ideally on transfer front tierney just comes if he doesn't maybe penrice at hearts then he can be understudy next year when Taylor goes, right footed replacement for sick note ccv and striker on loan or permanent.

8.) 03 Feb 2025 08:48:12
Kyogo leaving is a blow, but that’s fitba. What’s not acceptable is having no one lined up. Rogers said they have known for months. Really? So, was the strategy just to wait until he was out the door before we start looking? I will reserve judgement until tonight, but by F this leaving it to the last hours, isn’t what I thought would happen with our new recruitment guru.

I honestly think we will bring players in. But, I am not a fan of the final dash about. A striker and a LB an absolute must. And quality. We have the money.

16 Jan 2025 16:25:31
We've been linked with Raul Moro (rated at £8M) and Zeidane Inoussa from Hacken. Personally, I'd be more keen Inoussa. I saw him mentioned on some YouTube scouting page recently and thought he looked really dynamic and exciting. Things are starting to heat up now.

Kevbhoy

1.) 17 Jan 2025 13:26:41
We have been linked to about 40 wingers so far in this window.
From reports saying that "Celtic are Interested" to the Classic "Celtic looking to sign the next Jota for 20p. Opinion" kind of headline.

03 Aug 2024 18:32:43
Ed, have you got any info on our interest in the winger from Antwerp? Belgian football guy saying they're wanting more than we're willing to pay.

Kevbhoy

{Ed007's Note - Ed002 put this up yesterday:

{Ed002's Note - Michel-Ange Balikwisha (LW) Versatile Royal Antwerp player of interest to Celtic and Hull. Celtic will push but try and negotiate the fee down.

So the Belgian football guy is just backing that up, I think it's €9/10 million they want.}

1.) 03 Aug 2024 19:13:22
I read somewhere that the club had agreed a fee with 2 clubs previously but its his and his agents demands that stopped the transfers going through.

2.) 04 Aug 2024 08:46:35
€8-9m for the winger? Well, that’ll be that.

3.) 04 Aug 2024 11:46:40
Didnt we pay something in the region of this fir edourde.

4.) 05 Aug 2024 19:08:07
He is now injured and will be out for a long time, so he won't be getting sold.

30 Jul 2024 19:53:44
Reading between the lines, it appears Adam Idah has refused to travel with Norwich to force his move. Can't say I'm a fan of that sort of thing but hopefully the clubs can push the deal through quickly now.

Kevbhoy

1.) 30 Jul 2024 20:01:38
He's to be punished but wish we would put this to bed and pay the money.

2.) 30 Jul 2024 20:05:02
Norwich are going to explain his position tonight apparently.

I hope he hasn't done that Kev as it isn't very professional and if he does it to them, he could do it to his next team and that could be us.

Hopefully that is just a rumour and that Norwich have decided he won't be their first choice striker and both sides have agreed he can move in.

3.) 30 Jul 2024 20:24:23
Did Henrik not do something similar to try force through a move to us while at Feyenoord? might be mistaken though!

4.) 30 Jul 2024 20:37:33
And at the same time the board could've just paid a fair fee for him, let's face it I loved Ohs enthusiasm but if we got 4m for him then I'm sure Idah is worth 10, I wouldn't pay 10 but you see my point, 2.5 x better than Oh.

5.) 30 Jul 2024 20:55:44
Turner Adam is no where near a £8M striker, he was 3rd choice at Norwich. £5.5M with add ons is plenty, if they won’t accept then move on quickly.

6.) 30 Jul 2024 21:15:40
Had they not already sanctioned a loan with option to buy for 3M with someone else before he came to us? But then after his successful stint with us, they re evaluated which they definitely have every right to do.

7.) 30 Jul 2024 21:15:51
Whatever the story is here, we need to get an offer of around £5M plus add ons and get the bhoy signed.

After that we still need upgrades to a few positions in the starting 11 if BR is to take this team forward, particularly in Europe.

☘️ ? ☘️.

8.) 30 Jul 2024 21:19:07
Having no option to buy was Celtic's fuck up. There may have been no time so late in the window. It appears the people running Celtic never learn!

9.) 30 Jul 2024 21:47:12
Norwich insisted on No option to buy that’s why he was allowed to come to us on loan.

10.) 30 Jul 2024 21:51:18
I don't like to see this one bit. If he'll do it to Norwich he could very well do it to us. I'd still take him though. We've obviously tried to go in under Norwich's valuation but if the difference is 1.5m then pay it. 100m in the bank and we're acting like we're skint. Sorry tam, but what Norwich want is not a lot for a decent atriker these days. If you're setting a c3iling at 5.5m then you probably aren't getting much.

{Ed007's Note - To be fair to Idah this decision won't have been taken lightly by him or his agent, perhaps they feel Norwich are being unreasonable in negotiations or using the will of him and Celtic to get the deal done to hold out for an excessive fee,
By doing this - and if he has put in a written transfer request - it'll cost Idah money, not just a fine for not turning up it will have an effect any money he is due from Norwich when he does leave.
Here's a question, if the Celtic "board" have been dragging their heels over this why has Idah fell out with Norwich? That doesn't make much sense does it?
What if the scenario is that Norwich have been obtuse over negotiations and Idah's agent has decided that this was their tipping point, if Norwich didn't agree a deal by the time we came back from the US then they will force a move from their side?

11.) 30 Jul 2024 22:49:48
I know we can only speculate, but if we made an offer and they state they want more, does that put Norwich in a position similar to ‘fat boy’ at sevco when they said he was worth £20M and his agent went back and demanded a wage rise to reflect their valuation?

12.) 30 Jul 2024 22:53:47
There is clearly something going in behind the scenes. He did turn up later than everyone else, he travelled alone.

He would not have done this off his own bat, he would have spoken to his agent.

So you may be right Ed, they may be hoping other teams come in for him, to get the price up, but he has, said he will only come to us, so they are being awkward.

{Ed007's Note - Transfers are a murky business, MIP that's why I hate transfer windows.

13.) 30 Jul 2024 22:58:34
Ed007 your right, it doesn’t make sense. looks like Celtic have put a reasonable offer in and norwich dragging it out leading to frustration on Idahs behalf.

{Ed007's Note - Norwich started it with the patter about the new manager wanted a look at Idah even though the player had told both Norwich and Celtic he wanted to move back up here, that's just playing the transfer politics game but as I said, imo the situation has reached a tipping point and Idah's had enough.
Did Celtic have a tipping point, did they want it sorted by the time they got back from the US or we were moving on?

14.) 30 Jul 2024 23:03:22
I think Celtic will probably feel Norwich are profiteering Ed. I've been critical of them for not getting the deal done but I also appreciate that feeling like you're being ripped off is a bitter pill to swallow.

{Ed007's Note - Norwich are quite entitled to hold out for as much as they can get but it needs to realistic and reasonable.

15.) 31 Jul 2024 05:47:49
I feel for player in this scenario, if club transfer politics get in way of move he’s forced to try and push move which reflects bad on him and doesn’t guarantee he gets the move he wants.

16.) 31 Jul 2024 07:13:11
He came here on loan as they were not giving him game time, he played really well and now they want big money for him.

I can understand though that they have a new Manager and he wants a look at him, as he is their player but they have never came flat out and said he is not for sale. If they had we would probably walk away.

Instead they have put a higher value in him and now if he isn't sold, he will again struggle to get game time.

They didn't allow a loan to buy option which makes you think that was their plan from the outset, if his loan was a success, they could inflate his value.

They maybe made a promise to him which they have reneged on, hence his action.

As Ed says, transfers are a murky business. The only way the truth will come out is if and when he leaves.

17.) 31 Jul 2024 09:33:23
When you put it like that Ed, it doesn't really make sense. We can 9nly speculate how Norwich have been acting I suppose. If they're changing goal posts or playing funny buggers then that would make more sense why Idah is frustrated. But if we haven't met their valuation, straight up, then that's on us.

{Ed007's Note - I just don't see what Idah has to gain by taking the huff with Norwich if the problem is at Celtic's end.

18.) 31 Jul 2024 11:03:39
Sorry Ed but this is Peter Lawwells fault and no one else's. Right?

{Ed007's Note - Isn't everything?

19.) 31 Jul 2024 11:25:02
There was always going to be an increase in Norwich's valuation. It's quite possible that Celtic were aware of what it was previously and, like I said above, probably feel like Norwich are pulling a fast one. That's the most likely for Idah taking matters into his own hands. Burning bridges at Norwich makes no sense if Celtic are the ones making the deal difficult.

Really enjoyed the game tonight and it was good to see some guys getting a bit of a chance. Nawrocki and Kenny both impressed me but special mention has to go to young McArdle, he looked very composed and the cherry on top was his vision and technique for the fifth goal. Excellent all round.

At 33, I think I'm probably one of the younger posters but these are the sort of performances I grew up with from O'Neill and Strachan's teams. For some fans a bit younger than me, they've probably never seen a Celtic team perform like this in a Champions League campaign. What a platform for us to build on moving forward.

I'm very proud of the team tonight. They controlled large spells but that's what happens when you play an elite side. In recent years we would have buckled after the second goal. I don't think the players could've given any more and that's all you can ask for. Sometimes it just isn't enough, unfortunately. We're still in with a chance.

Kevbhoy

1.) 12 Feb 2025 23:52:17
Kev unless they have a massive injury or illness crisis or become totally complacent we don't stand a chance over there they took off the two two guys running the show and let us pass backwards sideways around and in front of them in front of them . showed some heart and energy in later stages . no real criticism of team as bayern are far superior to us . and in a poor night they could trash us.

2.) 13 Feb 2025 11:15:35
Ok, I won't bother watching it then.

3.) 13 Feb 2025 17:00:46
That’s great there is an interesting dart match down in the city, I thought I was going to miss it ???.

03 Feb 2025 19:00:37
I'd be quite happy with Schlupp coming on loan. It looks like the club have got Tierney's pre-contract wrapped up and then pushed for him in January as long as they could. Schlupp being rumoured in the summer suggests he was probably always the fall back option. Our approach to the striker situation seems like a shambles though.

Kevbhoy

24 Jan 2025 10:30:01
I've got a question for Ed, since you're well informed about the transfer process. If the rumours pan out and the figures were accurate (€12m for Kyogo and €10m for Jota) , could we not just sell Kyogo to Rennes for €2m with Jota coming the other way? Or are there regulations that mean the full money has to change hands? Your net spend will show the same either way so it seems a bit pointless.

Kevbhoy

{Ed007's Note - It will all depend on how the transfer payments are structured, it's not simply a case of just + or - on the balance sheet.}

1.) 24 Jan 2025 12:09:11
Cheers mate ?.

Is there any notable interest in CCV, Ed? He's not really one who normally gets linked with moves away.

These awards are relative and context is very important. One manager has just won the Championship with a team that was playing in League One last season. One has won a double with a team lightyears ahead of everybody else in terms of quality and resources. Any cup or title is a wonderful achievement but if you genuinely can't see why some people would consider the former more impressive than the latter, then you're just as biased as the guys you're accusing in your posts.
