With Paul Tisdale recently appointed Head of Football Operations will we start to see activity in the January market at the start of the window rather than have to scramble at the tail end of it?

Stengo1888

1.) 29 Dec 2024 03:41:13
Hopefully we will hear about a couple of signings soon.
I think it was around this time of the year when we announced the signings of Hatate and Maeda.

26 Aug 2024 11:02:37
Sly are saying we have submitted a £6.5m bid for Engles. Is that the way it's done? Lowball a bid and hope it gets accepted, or is that just the way Celtic do it?

Stengo1888

1.) 26 Aug 2024 11:29:04
Or maybe it's just the usual MSM having no idea exactly what's going on and the deal is being discussed.
Other reports saying the personal terms are already agreed but technically until a bid is accepted, we can't talk to the player.

{Ed007's Note - We can talk to his agent though. MOR had agreed terms with both Aralanta and Brighton through his agent.

2.) 26 Aug 2024 11:38:09
Been rejected going to have to go to about 8m or higher. we've got the fecking money.

3.) 26 Aug 2024 11:54:57
How many low ball bids did the Italian outfit submit fir O'Reilly if the news is to believed.

4.) 26 Aug 2024 12:10:51
Every club will most likely offer low first, if we offered say 10m to start with, we’ve shot ourselves in the foot because we then can’t go any lower than that, Atalanta offered 14m apparently for MOR then the last one was 23m, it’s just the way negotiations work.
We will have a limit for Engels but it makes financial sense to try and get the best deal possible first, have faith.

5.) 26 Aug 2024 11:33:29
They don’t know any other way. 4 days to go and they are still effin about like barsteward amateurs. Get it done!

6.) 26 Aug 2024 13:20:46
It's all well and good putting in a low figure but when it's the last few days of the window is a joke. But it's hardly a surprise is it.

23 Jul 2024 17:04:34
Reading that everything is in line for Bernardo to have a medical and then his signing will be announced.

Stengo1888

1.) 24 Jul 2024 13:31:29
That's according to team talk who I would say are a clickbait site.

13 Jul 2024 16:44:41
There's talk that we are in the market for a second goalie in this window - if BR is looking at 2 main players plus a youngster in each position would that mean Bain and Siegrist are offski?

Stengo1888

1.) 13 Jul 2024 17:07:38
I’m read Siegrist want to move to Australia to be with his girlfriends.
Bain is a decent Number 2.

2.) 13 Jul 2024 19:39:52
So would I buzz.

3.) 13 Jul 2024 20:32:43
Buzz,

It's an open secret Siegrist wants away ASAP.

Bain is an excuse for a GK and if he wasn't Scottish, like Welsh, he should be chased out of CP along London Rd.

Bain at best is 3rd rate and couldn'tkeep weans oot a close, I'd hope that BR is looking to bring in a back up to Kasper before this window closes.

☘️ ? ☘️.

4.) 13 Jul 2024 20:35:02
Bain is nowhere near good enough. Never will be. His lack of ambition says it all.

5.) 13 Jul 2024 22:41:11
I thought Seigrist cut a deal and was leaving on a free? I was surprised to see him against Queens Park. It didn’t work out and if he wants to go then let him I say. Whoever we get won’t do worse than a guy who contributes so little.

6.) 14 Jul 2024 00:22:36
After watching butterlands howler today? The man the daily rangers championed to replace pickford? Think kasper will be a good pair of gloves.

7.) 15 Jul 2024 10:29:45
That was the Daily Ranger trying to get their team a huge fee.

01 Jul 2024 16:18:17
Young left back, Magnus Mackenzie, has left Celtic permanently for Queens Park.

All the best young man and look forward to following your progress.

Just thinking there of we've had who would fit in with and possibly improve the Lisbon Lions. I'd go with the following:

Simpson
McGrain
Gemmell
Murdoch
McNeill
Clark
Johnstone
Dalglish
Larsson
Auld
Lennox.

Stengo1888

1.) 24 Jun 2025 11:14:31
To improve the only team to have won a Quadruple in the History of European football which has been played for about 70 years.

I think that’s a little disrespectful to the players you have removed especially the guy whose goal actually won us the “Big Cup” and the Quadruple.

2.) 24 Jun 2025 12:14:48
If Joe McBride hadn't had the really serious injury he most probably would have started in Lisbon . add him to the "improvement"

3.) 24 Jun 2025 14:17:05
A bit before my time but in my time the only players possible for consideration would be Larsson, Lubo and Van Dijk as they were genuinely world class players.

4.) 24 Jun 2025 16:36:52
There was a poll at one point for the greatest post Lisbon Lion Celts. McGrain, Dalglish, McStay and Larsson.

5.) 24 Jun 2025 17:12:24
The Celtic fans voted our greatest ever team in 2002.

Obviously they’re all great players but a back 3 of
McGrain, McNeill and Gemmell wouldn’t work.
And wing backs of Jinky and Lennox only confirms that.

6.) 25 Jun 2025 21:00:51
The Lisbon Lions as Buzz bomb mentions were so unique in the memory of those of us who were fortunate enough to see them and to watch the season un fold, I certainly wouldn’t dream of taking anyone out and replacing him with a later day Celt.
However as DRB2 said Joe McBride was banging in goals from everywhere before he did his knee at end of December .
Not to forget big Yogi Hughes who could have been star of the show, or plonker of the year all within one minute, played very well many times and couldn’t have been far from selection.
Jock Stein and the players were immortal heroes on the 25th May 1967 .
However just 3 years later Jock Stein ( especially) and the players were the exact opposite as they practically played as bad as they could and lost the European Cup final to at that time up starts Feyenoord.

23 Jun 2025 19:16:50
So who's left after John Clark sadly passed.

Jim Craig,
Willie Wallace
Bobby Lennox

Three cracking players in their day but any others whom I've missed?

Stengo1888

1.) 23 Jun 2025 19:46:52
Think that's the only ones still with us Stengo.

2.) 23 Jun 2025 22:38:21
RIP John Clark.
He gave Celtic the 2nd longest service in our History and only Willie Maley had a longer service.

15 Jun 2025 11:50:47
With "paper" talk that we could be losing CCV to Sunderland, Leeds or Southampton, could be in the market for a centre half. Don't fancy Trusty and Scales as our pairing if he goes.

Stengo1888

1.) 15 Jun 2025 12:54:15
At this stage the SMSM loves to annoy and cause us to be worried . There may be some truth in their rumour but in that event I am sure our Board and Brendan wouldn’t trust a regular partnership of Trusty and Scales.

2.) 15 Jun 2025 14:04:47
What do you think our centre-back situation will look like by the end of the window?

My guess is that we'll definitely look to move on Lagerbielke, Welsh, and Nawrocki this summer.

That would leave us with CCV, Scales, Trusty, and Murray.

Assuming that happens, I reckon we’ll go after a new left-sided CB, and if CCV is sold (which seems possible) , then we’ll be in the market for a right-sided replacement too.

I’d imagine our first-choice pairing next season will be something like:

RCB: CCV or his replacement

LCB: New signing

With Trusty and Scales providing cover at LCB, and Murray likely covering at RCB.

What do you all think?

– Would you be happy with that setup?
– Who would you like to see us sign at LCB or RCB?
– And do you think Nawrocki deserves another chance?

{Ed007's Note - I've said all season that I expected it to be CCVs final season as a Celtic player, his feet got a bit itchy last summer but nothing materialised. I'd happily see Trusty moved on if we can recoup what we spent on him - Scales is a far better option as a squad player at LCB - but I'll be surprised if he goes.
Rodgers is seeing Nawrocki in training every day and there's the rumours/stories about his fitness/conditioning & recovery problems so I don't see him have any future here. He's had some good games and he's had some stinkers so it's hard to judge him as a player but I think it's obvious the lack of gametime means his time at Celtic has came to an end - if we can find a buyer of course.}

3.) 15 Jun 2025 14:32:56
As soon as I saw Rocky I thought that we had a player. But as you say we only see him when he plays and there must be other things going on that we don't see.
Bringing in KT could solve the LCB issue and bringing back Schlupp might not be too bad an idea with a youngster, like Matthew Anderson, deputising at LB.
BR clearly fancies Dane Murray so he could be the back up at RCB but we need either a first choice RCB if CCV goes, but if he doesn't then I'd be happy with this setup.
Rocky and Trusty to leave and Scales to alternate with KT.

4.) 15 Jun 2025 15:34:39
I'd like to think that BR has already earmarked CCV's replacement as it's likely there will be interest in him in this window.

Trusty is ironically named, he's not a starter.

Scales has grabbed his opportunity and amassed a glut of appearances more because he's the 'safest' of a bad bunch, not because he's the next Maldini. So for me he's ideal to have as cover off the bench.

Should a bid be accepted for CCV we'll require two starting CB's (IMO) if we're to improve.

☘️ ☘️ ☘️.

5.) 15 Jun 2025 16:46:33
What if McKenna is one of them?

6.) 15 Jun 2025 17:51:56
There has to be a reason we have seen so little of Nawrocki as no successful or ambitious manager doesn’t play a particular player, just because he doesn’t like him . As fans when selecting players we can leave out someone who ignored us down the street.
I would like CCV and better and Scales or better . I might keep Murray but I would let the rest go if possible.

7.) 15 Jun 2025 17:30:10
Edd, is there any whispers about a CB coming in and would u like us to be looking at mate as well as our readers as i think this is the mOst important position a think we need to get right this time.

{Ed007's Note - I've heard that we've been tracking Martin Vitik from Sparta Prague but there's interest from Italy in him and I'd guess England too. I've seen/heard Veljko Milosavljevic's name mentioned as well but I'd think half of Europe are watching him.}

8.) 15 Jun 2025 20:26:07
Thanks ?.

{Ed007's Note - ????

9.) 15 Jun 2025 22:00:10
We're also being linked with a 23yr old Japanese, J-League left sided defender called Inamura.

Unsure if he's a LB or LCB?

☘️ ☘️ ☘️.

10.) 16 Jun 2025 00:35:11
He don't look half bad on YT. Reads the game well but put off of Japanese CB's after Kobayashi. Would rather Milosavljevic or Vitik.

11.) 18 Jun 2025 00:04:51
Replacing or buying centre backs isn’t necessary about buying the best centre half that we can entice into signing for us .
It’s more important that we buy a centre half that should be able to play well with our first choice centre half . Irrespective of who we have we may have to buy two to have a team of centre backs helping each other out and giving us a secure unit .
We challenge ourselves to do well in Champions League . Approximately half of the Champions league team would think nothing of paying up to £50 for a c b . Our fans acknowledge that we probably won’t spend £15 m but if we had a bad CL campaign or didn’t qualify, God help the Board and maybe even BR.

Bernardo with Portugal's (U19) fourth goal against Poland at half time.

Stengo1888

1.) 15 Jun 2025 11:13:29
Can anybody explain how a guy who’s 23 and a half still be playing u21s?

2.) 15 Jun 2025 11:56:16
I sure there is a couple of ways an older player can play. if you were 21 during the qualification stages, or there might also be a rule that you can have 1 or 2 overage players.

08 Jun 2025 10:19:32
Two or three recent posts on here have commented on the best atmosphere and the wealth of the club, but where would we be now if The Bunnet never appeared? What state would be in and would those who are left of the Old Board still be running the club, penny pinching?

Stengo1888

1.) 08 Jun 2025 11:26:23
Glasgow Rovers has a nice ring to it ??.

2.) 08 Jun 2025 12:22:52
The Bunnet is a Legend of the club!

3.) 09 Jun 2025 11:25:02
We'd still be here, as no individual is bigger than Celtic.

4.) 09 Jun 2025 13:05:40
As we discussed some months ago, he came in at a time that was critical . The business of saving the club, getting us a fine modern stadium was all down to him and others who sought no publicity.
However as far as growing and building us a football team, he was out of his depths and I am sure he would be first to admit Football wasn’t his forte and he should have distance himself from the football side of our club before he did .
We can’t deny he made great strides developing our club, but nearly left our football team behind.

In 2015/ 16 The Development squad had their Invincible season and consisted of players such as Tony Ralston, Jamie Mccart, Ross Doohan, Calvin Miller, Fiacre Kelleher (Caoimhín's brother) and Regan Henry. Ralston is backup to AJ, Jamie McCart is with Hearts, Doohan is coming back as 3rd choice, Calvin Miller is with Falkirk, Fiacre Kelleher is with Colchester and Regan Henry - no idea where he is at the moment as lasst heard in 2021 with Forest Green.

Doesn't like like many have kicked on.

Is Ajer not a right footed player? If CCV stays then we won't be in for him as BR won't play him at LCB.

Dusting the bagpipes down for the next Larkhall/ Stonehouse walk. Try out a few Irish jigs and reels to drown out the sh*te that doesn't fit in with my kind of sounds.

Someone who has belief and confidence in his own ability and the abilty of others. Someone who we coulod buy for next to he--haw and who is near enough the finished article. Probably someone who is experienced and not getting a game for his club.

Got to remember we are in a 2nd or 3rd tier league and the only reason players want to come to PH is playing in front of an electric atmosphere and Europe.

Two Roy Aitkens - one right footed and the other left footed but two Roy Aitkens with pace.

I'm with you on that one Mally. I liked Summers about a year or two ago and the Austria Vienna coach also rated him, but in the last two friendlies he played I didn't see any desire or hunger from him. The midfield is ferocious at the moment for someone trying to break in and that's why I don't think he's one for us. An Aberdeen or Hibs may bring out his talent and I hope for his sake it does.

I've got to admire Doohan. When he was here first he was battling it out with Conor Hazard but left after that and they kept Hazard on instead. I can recall Doohan saying when he was at Parkhead that his ambition was to be No 1. After spells elsewhere he's back at PH and it clearly shows the desire and confidence he has in himself. He may never get to be No1 but he may get the odd game and if he does it'll be what he set out to get.
