The more i have been thinking about it, the more i can see the talk of Evan Ferguson coming in on loan becoming reality.
Several reasons why it makes sense for Celtic, Brighton and the player himself.
It makes sense for Celtic as it will save the club millions on having to buy another striker while still bringing in a big name on loan. This is the type of move our board will be creaming themselves over.
It makes sense for Brighton as he has a serious confidence crisis and needs game time at a lower level to regain fitness and confidence. We are likely one of Brightons preferred destinations for him.
And finally it makes sense for Ferguson himself as he would see us as somewhere he could easily score goals and get his career back on track. Also a chance to win trophies and play european football.
I do think if he had a good pre season he would coast it in Scotland. Although he looks lost, there is a serious talent in there. A mixture of fitness and injury issues and shocking bad management from brighton has cost him 2 years of his career.
Even though i can see this move happening, i am in no way for it though, as there would be no way we could afford to buy him if his loan was a success. But keep an eye on this, i wouldn't rule it out!

I remember him scoring a brilliant Hat-Trick in the EPL a couple of seasons ago and thinking he was going to be the next big thing.

{Ed007's Note - We had Evan Ferguson over for trials when he was younger and I remember when he signed for Brighton a few Irish lads saying that was on odd move for him. There was talk of him going for £100m a couple of years ago so there's absolutely no chance of us buying him outright and for me he hasn't got that star/special quality I'd be looking at for any loan striker.
Why should Celtic be used as rehab for a player who has lost his way/confidence, so he comes up here, finds his mojo again and goes back down south and suddenly worth £80m-100m again and we're back to square one looking for a striker.}

2.) 13 Jun 2025 18:22:26
The only way we should consider this would be if there was an option to buy, at a price we could afford to pay.

I don’t see the point in developing some on else’s asset when we have our own players who will develop with game time like Idah.

{Ed007's Note - Spot on ????

3.) 13 Jun 2025 19:00:13
Already said I don't want him and nothing has changed. Would be raging if we wasted money on a loan for him.

4.) 13 Jun 2025 19:51:30
100% Ed

☘️ ? ☘️.

{Ed007's Note - Why thank you kind sir... ??

5.) 14 Jun 2025 13:10:14
It is small-tine thinking by the management and that won't get us the progression we need.

6.) 14 Jun 2025 15:08:09
I don’t want him either, he thinks he is better than he is . His father is Barry Ferguson, ok he isn’t the Barry we all loved or hated, his father played in the league of Ireland for a long time .
Seriously Evan made it clear that although he liked Celtic he didn’t want to play in SPL.

7.) 15 Jun 2025 15:53:47
Ed ?

☘️ ☘️ ☘️.

{Ed007's Note - ????

8.) 15 Jun 2025 16:58:12
To me, it would make sense, to get him on a year's loan, if he finds his form, we would have solved our striker problem, for a season at least, as long as our contribution to his wages is workable.

Eduard spertsyan being linked. Playmaker for Krasnodar who have won the russian league.
We were linked with him last summer if i remember.
Looks a very good player on clips. Takes freekicks, corners and penalties.

Free kicks, corners and Pens?

He'd be a busy bhoy in our starting 11 ? ? ?.

Every club in the English league reportedly interested in Maeda. 25m apparantly what we want. And apparantly he is open to a move.
Now i know there will be interest in him, but why do these stories always come out before a derby? Coincidence, i think not.
Im holding out hope that maedas lack of technical ability puts potential suiters off especially with what we will want. Which i expect to be in excess of 30m.

DerryTim

1.) 04 May 2025 11:26:37
25m must just be for one leg lol.

{Ed007's Note - The Unseen Fenian Hand flexing it's power again....

Where is this being reported?

2.) 10 Feb 2025 21:25:15
More hun tears tonight. courtesy of the unseen fenian hand?????. Pistol Pete using his Uefa influence ?.

{Ed007's Note - Even El Papa John Paul Ii couldn’t have hoped for this level of control when he gave his speech at Bellahouston Park in 1982 ?

17yr old Irish striker Mason melia has signed for spurs for an Irish league record for £1.6m
He was shown about celtic park a few weeks back. Im not sure if we bid for him in the end but we were very interested.

DerryTim

1.) 05 Feb 2025 09:54:16
Sorry DerryTim but we do not want any MASONS near Celtic Park.

2.) 05 Feb 2025 17:23:21
It was reported this morning on RTÉ radio that Celtic went in very hard to sign him but he wanted to go to the EPL and couldn’t be persuaded to go to Celtic.

I just came across a stat of Man citys spending in the last 6 months and made me think of the fans that constantly moan about the £9m and £11m we spent on Idah and Engels.

Marmoush €75m
Nico Gonzalez £60m
Khusanov €40m
Vitor Reis €40m
Reijnders €70m
Chekri €40m
Ait Nouri €50m

A total of €375m in less than 6 months that club has spent. Its absolutely bonkers but again it just shows that £9m and £11m is nothing in football these days.

DerryTim

1.) 14 Jun 2025 11:38:38
For a club in Celtics position 9 10 11 million is big money . we should be buying better standard of player for that money so it helps us win league and get into group stages of Europe . it's all relative .20 25 million spend in spl most probably is like man city numbers to rest of spl.

2.) 14 Jun 2025 12:58:15
When you watch the major tournaments you see players valued at those prices that can't pass a ball, can't run more than 10 yards without sweating like hell, take a shot outside the box without it reaching row Z and landing on the deck for a rub down when their ego's been bruised. And I'm not talking about Sevco players here.

3.) 14 Jun 2025 13:29:48
Deep river bhoy2 I think, however I might be wrong but when Celtic spent £11m and £9m they were buying the best players they could buy for the positions they wished to fill at the money they spent .
In hindsight there maybe some information available to prove Celtic were right or wrong . We will have a clear picture when we sell either of them.

4.) 14 Jun 2025 18:10:05
Nothing against Idah but was he the best they could could find? And of I remember correct Engels wasn't the first choice for centre mid Didn't a few other deals not come to fruition? . both have done well especially Engels being young bhoy big move new country . next season I think we will be able to judge better judge better if they're really successful moves . all I was meaning is we can't affordca lot of these price deals so be better than what we have big money clubs can afford multimillions on projects prospects but can we?

5.) 14 Jun 2025 18:28:03
We did spend that money and it did help us win the league and qualify for the knockout stages of the champions league.

6.) 14 Jun 2025 22:24:47
Everything is relative but how does £9m or even £11M now, compare to the transfers of £6M for players under MON 25 years ago? ?

08 Jun 2025 08:41:20
I have just read an article from ex France and lyon goalkeeper Gregory Coupet on how his greatest experience as a footballer was playing us at Celtic Park in the CL back in 04 I think it was.
So it got me thinking, of my 20 or so visits to Celtic park, most of which were European nights, this night against Lyon sticks with me as the best atmosphere I have experienced at Paradise. Sutton and the late Liam Miller with the goals that night in a 2-0 win. Larsson was outstanding as usual.
Coming from Derry and moving to New Zealand at 23 I haven't got to anywhere near as many matches as I would have liked. So im just wondering what everyones opinions are in terms of greatest atmospheres ever experienced at Celtic Park?

DerryTim

1.) 08 Jun 2025 09:08:22
Always think about the game against fc tirol when i was 12. Maybe not the best atmosphere i've been at but from memory the game was bonkers, through one minute then looking like we were going out the next. Huge sense of relief when it was over.
The Barcelona 125 game was good, also remember seeing the speakers rocking from the roof in the 3 nill game against Rangers, around March time i think. Lenny was manager and hooper scored a couple.

2.) 08 Jun 2025 09:36:37
I liked a St. Patrick’s Day victory against Rangers in the old Celtic Park in the early 1990’s when Celtic won a Scottish Cup tie 2-0.
We also won the league match 3-0 the following week.

Another match that sticks in my mind was a 2-0 New Year victory against Rangers in 1988 because it was a Centenary celebration.

I was in the Main Stand for all 3 matches but it was amazing watching the old terracing in the jungle and the Celtic End bouncing.

3.) 08 Jun 2025 09:42:56
Hartson scored the only goal when we beat Hearts to win the League, Beat Barcelona 1-0 Alan Thompson scored, Beat Rangers 1-0 in a SC qtr final Larsson scored and away from Parkhead was the 3-1 win at Rugby Park when Di Canio came off the bench to equalise, Cadete and Thom scored. Thought we were immense second half. Also the 6-0 win against Killie at home that season aswell. There's been a few!

4.) 08 Jun 2025 09:58:35
I'm going to be a bit controversial here and say that the best atmospheres I have ever heard were at the old Celtic Park with the Jungle etc. I've been to a few in the new stadium and although, I accept, that the overall atmosphere is special, you could hear clearly what someone a couple of rows away was saying. In the old stadium you couldn't hear yourself think.

Best games I experienced for atmosphere were against Red Star (1968) , Basle (1974) and for all the wrong reasons Atletico Madrid (1974) .

5.) 08 Jun 2025 11:00:16
Juventus 4-3 game plus Partizan 5-4 games were both brilliant atmospheres.

6.) 08 Jun 2025 11:41:58
Celtic v shaktar 2007 was class, Donati last minute winner. Ended up four rows away with the celebration ?.

7.) 08 Jun 2025 12:06:33
Stengo must agree with you about the atmosphere in the jungle at the Red Star game. If memory serves me right Jock Stein told Jinky that if we had a decent lead going into 2nd leg he would not have to travel due to his fear of flying and in my opinion Johnstone had one of the best games ever in the hoops. Another night that will remain with me is when the team came back from Lisbon. The noise and atmosphere were unbelievable. So many memories from the Jungle.

8.) 08 Jun 2025 14:38:57
Celtic54 it was funny that game. JS with mind games told Jinky that to stop him from flying to Yugoslavia he had to ensure that Celtic won by so many goals. As you said it was his best ever game in the green and white and he scored two of the five and assisted in the other three. After the match Big Jock took Jinky aside and said to him that he had to go to Belgrade to let them see how special he was. Jinky told the big man to FRO - he wasn't going, period and he didn't go. Big Jock suggested that he travel by boat but JJ said that he wouldn't be able to find oars big enough.

9.) 09 Jun 2025 11:35:39
My favourite game and atmosphere was Celtic 5 Sporting Lisbon 0, 1983.

10.) 09 Jun 2025 13:11:48
It’s almost impossible to differentiate between games we saw in our teens and maybe earlier, compared to games we have seen in recent years as matured adults . The exciting games seen through youthful eyes and youthful experiences often improve with passing times . Similarly games that were a hard watch back in those days often are even worse when we look back or completely forgotten.

11.) 09 Jun 2025 23:22:03
The Valencia game when it went to extra time, possibly the loudest I've ever heard a crowd as extra time started.

22 May 2025 08:11:49
I watched that tripe of a euro final. Was a shocking bad watch.
So much for the "most exiting league in the world"
2 shocking bad teams. I honestly feel we would have a fantastic chance of winning that europa league now especially as CL teams don't drop down now.

DerryTim

1.) 22 May 2025 09:45:04
We need to get some perspective. Yes we've not covered ourselves in glory over the years in a Europe context. Rangers have done well. But if we were in the Europa each year, I think we'd do well in it. So I agree.

2.) 22 May 2025 10:50:10
Over the years I've watched loads of semi-finals and finals and I've watched a lot of tripe where the basics are totally missing from the games - passing, shooting, running.,

A player can be 20 yards away from the team mate with the ball and receives it at throat level.

A player runs onto the ball about 30 yards out and the ball lands in row Z.

Five minutes into the match the players are knackered and can't run five yards without falling into a heap and needing resuscitation.

Yeah, if we can get the right person in with the right attributes and playing in the right system I really don't see why we couldn't at least get by the quarters - and then who knows. We MUST get the recruitment right if we're going to progress.

3.) 22 May 2025 11:22:18
It is down to nerves and both teams not wanting to lose.

4.) 22 May 2025 12:15:13
If we can consistently make the last 32 and the odd last 16 in Champions League we don’t want to be involved in that dead competition played for by teams who have no interest or pride . All through competition there were teams who weren’t interested in progressing as they rested star players.

It was terrible to see Ange forgetting all his principles and ignoring his high press and spend 2nd half desperately defending against a team who will be relegated next season.

5.) 22 May 2025 14:19:52
Agreed Wee des, the League and CL is all that matters!

06 May 2025 06:14:10
I see the winner of the europa league gains automatic entry to the CL next term. Unless a miracle happens there are going to be 6 English teams in the CL next term while champions of scotland and other smaller leagues need to qualify.
This is everything that is wrong with modern football and is absolutely sickening.
Honestly im all for all clubs not in the so called Big 5 leagues to break away and start a new competition.
Uefa obviously wouldn't stand for it but f**k them. Its getting more and more obvious every season the big 5 is all that matters to them.
Clubs from scotland, portugal, holland, belgium, switzerland, austria, norway, sweden, denmark and others need to start working together to look after their own. There would be plenty of interest im sure if clubs in these leagues broke away.
I hate to see what the CL will be like in 10 years unless Celtic and these other clubs take a stand.

DerryTim

1.) 06 May 2025 11:22:38
UEFA are just as crooked and corrupt as our own Associations and although they represent all senior football, they have their own priorities and agenda that ensures the fat-cats stay plump.
Realistically, Celtic would have a fairer crack of the whip in the Europa League or Conference, which would probably ensure European football for longer - and even a sniff of the latter stages.
However, domestic dominance with one huge eye on the CL cash incentive for our own club's smaller ambitions take preference.

2.) 06 May 2025 12:03:50
It's a farce it means the worst man utd team in over a decade and a piss poor spurs team get a chance making the cl, 6 English teams unless iam mistaken with a chance of group stages.

3.) 06 May 2025 12:45:39
Do all 6 go straight in to the CL group stage?

4.) 06 May 2025 13:00:29
The big five owned by wealthy Jews, yanks, Middle Eastern oil magnates and Countries have Sky and any other rich TV sports Companies all at their troughs . UEFA league is ok if a club has little need or interest in monetary gain .
The Big 5 leagues and the owners of their club have only one interest and that is money, money money .
If it suits them they will tell UEFA to take a running jump. As far as big 5 are concerned they can walk anytime and Champions League money will walk with them . It doesn’t matter if UEFA are crooked and corrupt, because the big 5 Coutries own all the power. If it hadn’t been for PL the last time the big 5 Countries flexed their muscles we and most if not all clubs outside big 5 Countries would have been abandoned.
If we want to play with the so called minnows in a competition that cannot find proper sponsors and attracting small TV and media money, fine let us play at the H. ns level and need £10 m a year from wealthy Directors to stay a float . Will our Directors be as Generous . Sevco have enjoyed fairly successful UEFA campaigns and are now on their knees praying for an USA Catholic club to take them over.

5.) 06 May 2025 13:05:23
Yes all 6 would go straight into the Group Stages.

04 May 2025 20:33:05
Draw probably a fair result. For me only good performances from Ccv and sinisalo. Forrest and ralston done ok, everyone else poor.
I will say the guff Idah and engels are getting today and this season in general is bang out of order. It seems all because of big fees we paid for them.
Fans need to remember £9/ 10m is not a lot of money in football now a days. Put it into perspective, top champions league clubs will be paying £100m+ for their top strikers. Man utd paid £80m for thay hojlund and he's guff.
Fans also need to realise we paid £6m for sutton 25yrs ago. Yes 25 years ago and idahs goal record is as good as if not better than suttons.
We paid the same fee for idah as edouard who was excellent for us. And again Idah has a better goals per minute than edoaurd.
Hes on the verge of 20goals this season while playing mostly from the bench. 3 goals in th CL and along with engels who has 20+ goal contributions are on the verge of helping us to another treble.
Idah is only 24 and engels 22 and both can and will improve, but get off their back.

DerryTim

1.) 04 May 2025 22:49:03
Idah was rotten . Engels done nothing again and hatate disappeared again . if they play well then they deserve praise. if they don't then we can be critical.

2.) 04 May 2025 23:35:31
Drb
Whys no one banging on about how poor mcgregor or maeda was today. Same old rubbish. If its not taylor or scales its idah or engels.

3.) 05 May 2025 01:52:36
Nonsense DRB…. both Engels and Idah’s contribution this season has been excellent. they are both young men with a huge potential to improve further under BR.

4.) 05 May 2025 09:17:21
Rogican. Not on Sunday though and you can't hide a bad performance by saying they're young and have potential . we come on here after games to react to them with our own opinions I thought the three I mentioned had bad games . did you think they played well? . Derry tim those where the ones getting mentioned. yes maeda was off it in first half . but I thought McGregor had ok game . of course there are undeserved scapegoats and everyone has a favourite they won't be harsh on . the money Celtic paid for idah and Engels is big money for us and spl . I posted a while back would they get same level of criticism if bought for around £1 million? .

5.) 05 May 2025 09:55:27
They are both being scrutinized because of the large fees paid because when Celtic splash-out close to their biggest spend in a transfer window (and that includes Trusty) , the supporters expected big things - almost immediately. Patience is a virtue many of us are not blessed with. Another factor for me is (maybe unfairly) Engels is being compared to MOR and all the attributes he brought to the team.
Both players will learn a lot from this season and kick-on, but I am not convinced Trusty has what it takes.

6.) 05 May 2025 10:22:48
If BR manages to get a couple of real quality midfielders in that he's looking for - someone older than Engels and Idah and costing about the same money or a bit then you'll see Engels and Idah push on.

7.) 05 May 2025 10:43:13
It wasn't long ago fans were demanding on here that we spend 10-15m on oven ready CL players to take us to the next level now all of a sudden we shouodn't expect much from playersxin that bracket as it's not a lot of money these days. It's criminal we have broke our transfer record for Engels!

8.) 05 May 2025 10:48:30
Engels has tremendous potential, we overpaid for Idah.

9.) 05 May 2025 12:00:10
If we were to sell engels this summer we comfortably get 20 million so in what way is it criminal? Are fans expecting him to score 50 goals a season because he cost 11 million.

Its is unbelievable how many so called football fans know absolutely nothing about football. People need to remember this isn't fifa.

10.) 05 May 2025 13:12:53
Apart from a bad miss idah played well.

11.) 05 May 2025 18:11:17
I can’t understand the reaction .
Before 2012 it probably took me the most of a week getting over losing to the Rangers team . We knew they cheated, got referees help, SFA helped all they could as did SMSM, but getting beat by that shower was like a knife through the heart
But liquidation ended all that, even if h. ns tried to conjure up a new way of exiting liquidation, we laughed and enjoyed their efforts to climb back up with as Walter Smith said their history all dead . Losing to a team we had no history or rivalry shouldn’t particularly annoy us
However what is happening, our fans are getting more worked up and annoyed with us dropping points to the illegitimate club, than a decent honest club like Ross County.

12.) 06 May 2025 05:43:32
DC, please explain what Engels has done to merit a £9m profit in 12 months?

13.) 06 May 2025 12:22:19
You clearly don't watch celtic that much do you bhoy88. First season playing in a new country and playing in the champions league. Double figures for goals and assists. Belgium international and still only 21. But yeah he's not worth 20 million ???.

14.) 06 May 2025 15:19:01
He is not worth £20m as no club has paid £20m for him. He hasn't been a standout in any game for Celtic yet. For £11m, first season playing in a new country and CL shouldn't be an excuse.

15.) 06 May 2025 17:24:49
So you agree engels is worth 11million then. And by your logic callum mcgregor is worth nothing. Interesting view.

{Ed007's Note - It's pointless arguing with him, I've asked numerous times what he expected from Engels and never got an answer off him.
Celtic could easily get £20m for him this summer but when Engels does leave Celtic it will be for a Scottish record fee.}

16.) 06 May 2025 19:11:14
We paid £11m for him so that's what we think he is worth. Do I think he's worth £11m? No I don't. I'd expect a lot more than a paltry 5 assists and 9 goals mostly from the spot. I'd expect him to be a standout most games instead of going missing most of the time especially in the derbies. I'd expect him to dictate games.
What would you expect Ed from our record signing? How many seasons do you let our most expensive player have to settle in before he justifies his record price tag?

17.) 06 May 2025 19:13:46
All I keep hearing from yous is he's got potential, but so does the "project" players we sign that people moan about. Engels is our record signing and should hit the ground running from the off and quite simply he hasn't.

18.) 06 May 2025 19:19:19
9 Goals 5 Assists in the League and 1 Goal 3 Assists in Europe is not what I'd expect form our record signing.

19.) 06 May 2025 22:42:29
Engels has played in 50 matches, 10 goals 8 of which were penalties. So that's a whopping 2 goals from normal play and a measly 8 assists in 50 yes 50 matches from our most expensive player. Those figures must improve if we hope to get £20m for him or he will be our most expensive flop!

You are right ed, it is very unlikely as half of europe will be sniffing about him, but he is exactly the type of CB we should be going for. I think he may be into his last year so the fee shouldn't be an issue for us.

DerryTim

{Ed007's Note - He does only have a year to run on his deal. Fiorentina supposedly had a €10m bid rejected last summer and I think it might take that kind of money still but he's worth that imo.}

I would rather not sell CCV unless its for a ridiculous price. We already need a CB to take scales/ trustys spot so i don't like the thought of us having to replace both CB spots. Too much of a gamble.
Id like us to go for Dara O'shea or highly rated Czech CB Martin Vitik to partner CCV.
And im also for bringing Ajer back if the price is right, but only if he is to play as a DM. He is exactly what we need beside Calmac in Europe.

DerryTim

{Ed007's Note - Vitik would be a fantastic signing and I know that we have scouted/watched him but with teams like Napoli sniffing about it might be a big ask to get him in here.}

Its embarrassing that club world cup. Nothing more than another money making scheme. The players are on holiday mode and they are nothing more than glorified friendlies.
No one wants to watch teams getting drubbed 10-0.
Its actually more pathetic than that nations league nonsense.
