I say this every year, but good in-form players tend not to move in January. The only guys who move are those that a club wants rid of, unless something crazy happens at the top of the food chain which filters down.

with that in mind, I don't expect any signings this window, certainly none that will trouble the first team. If we can let a couple of fringe players go or go on loan and keep the main squad in place I'll be happy.

I think 2 minimum will come in.

01 Aug 2024 13:36:34
Idah season long loan now being discussed, Celtic and Norwich too far apart in terms of transfer fee, but player wants to go and seen as sensible approach right now. expect to be completed over the weekend.

gerrymurphy

1.) 01 Aug 2024 14:06:57
That sounds promising Gerry.

2.) 01 Aug 2024 14:38:53
If this doesn't have an option to buy come the end of the season I'm going to flip ma lid.

3.) 01 Aug 2024 14:57:56
Would be a good move, we get him for a year and I hope if successful we know how much it will cost to make it permanent. Allows us to spend the funds elsewhere.

4.) 01 Aug 2024 15:20:30
Better than nothing I suppose as long as it is a loan to buy at a sensible price, as there will be no haggling with Norwich as we did with Benfica to lower it.

Hope this is just not gossip and we can get on with other signings.

Baldy looking at more experienced freebies, no sell on values but hoping to challenge us on a budget and qualif for group stages.

A quality CB, if not O'Shea, someone with his quality and experience, as we will need it in CL. We may be strong offensively but defensively we need to be tighter.

The Wolves LB appears to be a no go, so an alternative is a must.

5.) 01 Aug 2024 17:55:42
I don't understand why Norwich would let him go out on loan with an option to buy rather than just sell him - it doesn't make sense.

6.) 01 Aug 2024 18:26:12
I wonder from Celtics end who’s responsible for the difference in valuation, probably the same individual who wouldn’t pay an extra 1m for John mcginn when he was at Hibs.

7.) 01 Aug 2024 18:47:16
Pretty pathetic to be honest if it’s true Celtic won’t pay the fee for Idah, I understand both the buyer and seller may have differences in valuation but Celtic have qualified for the CL for the 3rd season in a row, posted incredible profits and haven’t spent a penny so far this summer to improve the squad. Norwich are reportedly after 7m which seems to be a fair amount.

We sold Oh and haksabanovic for a reported combined fee of £5m, and I’m led to believe the Bernardo deal is done for £3.5m, along with the £1m spent on the goalkeeper Sinisalo. We’ve actually made a profit so far!

Idah is young, massive potential, and a high chance of a high re-sale value in the future who no doubt will vastly improve under Rodgers.

it’s a total smack in the face from the club to us fans who are the ones who pay money into the club and are constantly let down by the individuals who make these decisions, pay the bloody money Celtic.

The league is gone, in truth it was probably done before today but no point dwellng on it now. Give Lennon the cup final and a chance to complete another treble then find some 'mutual agreement' to allow him to leave with a bit of a pay off (I don't expect him to resign when he's due a decent amount, let's be fair he'll never have a job paying this well again) .

There's no rush to make another appointment, its all about planning for next season so just make sure we get it right. Would be nice to win the Scottish Cup as last thing I want is to see them do a treble. Finishing second is a must too of course.

If we're all honest, this 9iar is poor and distant relation of the 9iar under Jock Stein, there is no comparison between the two. And if we'd managed to do the 10 it would almost devalue what the Lisbon Lions achieved.

Bring on next season, we go again HH.

gerrymurphy

1.) 07 Dec 2020 08:13:24
No rush to make another appointment Gerry? U do realise that we need to finish second as there are 2 spots for champions league qualification available. At the min we will struggle to get second. Change is needed now to spot more dropped points.

2.) 07 Dec 2020 09:16:23
We need to be planning ahead, feckin sick to death of trying to scrape through the qualifiers. Systematic failures that have us where we are now.

3.) 07 Dec 2020 10:23:57
The league isn't gone if the board are decisive and remove Lennon today and appoint a genuinely good manager. Kennedy, or John Collins, or Henriuck Larsson aren't the answer.

It's 13 points with an unassailable goal difference, so effectively 14 points. We have two games in hand and three derbies. That's 15 points IF we act now and get in someone competent who can organise a defence and motivate a team with fresh ideas and who has some knowledge of sports science and fitness.

If Lennon is allowed to stay till the cup final, we will be atleast 18 adrift and have lost the cup to Hearts.

4.) 07 Dec 2020 11:47:07
I agree with you Lennonout but I think even when we get a new manager in it's going to take a couple of games to get that side playing like a football team again too many bad habits have got in there.

5.) 07 Dec 2020 13:07:22
You're spot on tony2bhoy, but a decent manager can usually get a reaction in a short space of time even though it'll take a while to properly implement his ideas. anyone who can organise a defence will be an improvement.
these aren't bad players, they just look spent. they haven't looked fit for months. they need a lift and to get the ball moving quicker, and some movement off the ball.
people criticise brown for going sideways, but they're generally isn't a forward pass. Eddie is surrounded by 10 defenders, so either can't get the ball or goes wide and there's no one in the box. it'll also help to play players in the correct positions. don't be shoehorning people in just because of a name. Christie isn't the same out wide. he's a ten.

Lennon needs to go today and the board need to spend the money on a quality manager. jack ross, john collins, even Larsson won't excite the fans (at least not the sensible ones) and then they run the risk of an empty stadium next year.
I remember Rodgers said he gave the players a dossier each week on the guy they were likely to be up against. Lennon says he doesn't even do match analysis .

6.) 07 Dec 2020 16:26:29
All we need from a new manager is some organisation and some basic tactics. I'd be fine with grinding out 1-0s or 2-1s until we go to Poundland, and hopefully, come away with a draw. We can start to think about attractive football improvements after that. Just get some organisation and effort into the team.

7.) 07 Dec 2020 17:45:46
We need a win there IF we have any chance of winning the league So strange saying this at the start of December but that is how far we have fallen the longer it takes to get a new manager in the less chance IF we have one at all of regaining the title sadly enough.

They actually seem to think they’ve annoyed us by scraping a draw at Aberdeen today! What sort of football fan would rather win a title by not playing, I guess they are not used to winning things! I’m delighted we get a chance to win it on the park, with our fans there, and the cameras on us. They are truly pathetic!

gerrymurphy

1.) 14 Apr 2025 04:13:15
They need to score over 9 goals a game and hope we get beat every game, so it's already over.

2.) 14 Apr 2025 15:29:01
I agree gerry ?.

3.) 14 Apr 2025 17:06:57
Having Propper sent off early against a disinterested and under strength Bilbeo team didn’t weaken Sevco very much . Sevco were set up in a very defensive manner, fans may have become a bit restless by the inability of h. ns to build any attacks but the sending off of Propper mean’t Sevco fans encouraged Sevco to keep their all out defensive formation.

06 Apr 2025 15:10:46
I got panned on here a few months back for suggesting we’d struggle to win the Championship in England.
Well I’m doubling down on this, we’ve recently lost to Hibs, Rangers, St Johnstone none of whom would trouble the playoffs in the championship.
We’re showing a lot of fatigue and we’re just at the 32 game mark, try 46 games, the length and breadth of Britain, huge teams, huge crowds, teams like Leeds, Burnley, Sunderland would give us a much tougher time than anyone in Scotland.
This is not a negative post, we need perspective, we are what we are, we are the best team in Scotland and on course for another treble, that is astonishing. We’re not perfect, but a Scottish team is never going to be. In fact no team ever will be.

gerrymurphy

{Ed007's Note - So what's the point your doubling down on? If we were down in England, even The Championship, we would have more money to spend on better quality of players, how would Leeds or Sunderland do in Scotland with the smaller TV & sponsorship deals?}

1.) 06 Apr 2025 15:55:27
I bet the Celtic squad would kill to play 46 games in a season. They've played 50 already this season, some of them against far better teams than Leeds or Burnley.

2.) 06 Apr 2025 16:05:18
Liverpool also lost today but they also have a big lead.
We can’t win all the time.

Successful clubs win when we need too.

3.) 06 Apr 2025 16:24:48
I agree about fatigue to a certain extent, but I also said today that we have been miles ahead in a one horse race for over three quarters of the season causing some complacency and half-hearted displays. Looking back we are night and day from the team that played teams off the park from August to November and had a pretty decent CL effort. Same manager, same players but something is lacking.

4.) 06 Apr 2025 17:46:42
Is it to do with the players downing tools as they, like us, know they've won the league? Complacency? Human nature maybe. At this stage of the season when there are lots of dead rubber games across the game as a whole, it makes for results like this. I'm merely speculating. I can see us stumbling over the line with more insipid performances but on the positive, hopefully another Treble.

5.) 06 Apr 2025 18:51:07
Brendan hit the nail on the head today after the match. Some people wanting an easy game. Now that the league has been virtually wrapped up since Christmas a lot of games have been flat and lacking the tempo and urgency they had at the beginning of the season. Not the professionalism needed at a big club.

6.) 06 Apr 2025 19:17:17
At least Celtic won’t be complacent in the Semi Final against St. Johnstone.
The same happened with Hibs in the last round, when we didn’t need to wait long to get revenge after losing at Easter Road in the league.

Celtic and Sevco have now both lost 4 league matches each since Hibs last lost a league match.
( 3-0 to Celtic at the start of December )

7.) 06 Apr 2025 20:59:03
Arne Engels is in the same bracket as Idah, yet one starts and one doesn't, McCowan should be ahead of Engels it's blatantly obvious.

8.) 06 Apr 2025 22:43:15
Mccowan owan should start ahead of hatate.

9.) 06 Apr 2025 22:58:06
Mccowan is an impact player and should never be starting ahead of engels. Mcgregor should have been subbed off instead of Engels today.

10.) 07 Apr 2025 07:09:37
Gerry, as a Celtic fan you should know better than to make stupid claims like that.
Thats the type of pish delusional engerland football fans come out with.
Money talks.

11.) 06 Apr 2025 23:40:42
Spot on Ed.
Lets get this in perspective.

In this league we have to sell our best, down south we would not.
Just look at cash pumped in to EPL and the other leagues.
Even relegated teams get a massive parachute payment we can only dream of. (averaging around £50million over a timed period)

I think their is too much complacency creeping in just now and we have not completed the job.

12.) 08 Apr 2025 18:51:17
The negativity our supporters post about manager and individual players while Celtic are in the midst of the most successful domestic campaigns in Cup,
L Cup and SPL . The whole world are looking at how well we are performing. Of course Sevco fans and the SMSM don’t give us the credit we deserve .

Why should they our own supporters begrudge everything we win and try to destroy the reputations of many players and our manager .
Is winning doubles and trebles nearly every season not enough for our fans.

Didn't bother going online at all after the game yesterday, and wanted to let the dust settle before putting some thoughts out.

It frustrating to lose the game, especially getting back to 2-2 and furthermore with that AJ chance at the end. But at the end of the day the result doesn't really mean anything in the grand scheme of things.

First half we were terrible, KS, CCV and AJ all very poor and that's nothing they did, these guys just didn't turn up. Midfield seemed lost without Calmac, but I don't think that's the end of the world, Engels will learn from this, we've got Bernardo to come back too.

Kuhn went missing, but again, ht'e never going to be 100% consistent - if he was he wouldn't be playing for Celtic.

They seem to think its a big deal, let them have their moment, we were very poor and should still have drawn the game, that's the reality. If they'd played poor we'd have thumped them. that's the difference.

I want to win at Ibrox to right this wrong, but in truth I'd rather beat St Johnstone in the semi, as ultimately, its about winning trophies. So the first Rangers game of next season - that's the big one for me, we need to go there and make a statement, BR and the team you have about 6 months to get this right.

gerrymurphy

1.) 17 Mar 2025 12:39:59
IF this game yesterday was a one off it would not bother me at all. But we scrapped through on the cup final 3-3 penalty's then we got battered at grey skull, then yesterday I think it's a reality check that we aren't as good as some of us though and we do still need two or 3 Good players in at the summer. The bench yesterday didn't fill me with confidence at all.

2.) 17 Mar 2025 16:16:34
Our loses to them have comee when we were well ahead in the league. Its as if the players took their foot off as they weren't must win games, but to us, these games are all must win games every time.

We do tend to start slowly but yesterday was unbelievable slow.

After what their players did and said after the game, we need to go to the real s*t hole and pump them.

Met with my sevco mate today and they believe the takeover is done and big investment is on the way.

He firmly believes they have no debt and FFP won't stop them spending. He also believes they are the same club, so that let's you know where he stands in the real world ?.

3.) 17 Mar 2025 17:58:33
We haven’t lost to the cheats in a fully meaningful game .
Jock Stein, the greatest of them all shut the SMSM up who asked him was he worried when Rangers got a few wins against us, Stein said not at all as long as we win the league . If it was good enough for Jock Stein it should be good enough for BRv.

13 Mar 2025 09:57:30
The Champions League is a farce, nothing but a cash cow. I bet if I'd asked everyone on this page to list 10 teams they think have the best shot of being in quarter finals at the start of the season every one of us would have nailed 7 out of 8 of the line up. The semis will have a very familiar look as will the final, boring as hell.

The league pahase is nothng but a procession, the fact you can lose 3 or 4 games and still go through shows its a nonsens, all for show, just about making money. It's a shameful "competition" (I use this word cautiously as it's only really a competition for 5 or 6 teams) .

Bring back the European Cup, one entrant per country, no qualifiers, no group stage, simple knockout rounds all the way to the final. The beautiful game.

gerrymurphy

1.) 13 Mar 2025 10:38:21
Its all down to finance mate, there’s usually a so called smaller team that does well Lille, Brugge ect and with the right recruitment of say 3 players a honestly think were not to far away from achieving big things.

2.) 13 Mar 2025 11:23:11
What would be big things? (I'm not being argumentative ) For our budget even if we increased transfer fees and wages the group draw and then favourable home ties I think determines progress more than 3 signings . ie would Tierney miller and kvistgarden who would be big signings financially for us . but would they help us do big things?

3.) 13 Mar 2025 11:33:16
How would the format change who would win it? Would it not still be the same teams there or there abouts? I bet if I asked everyone on this page who would win the Premiership, they'd say Celtic.

4.) 13 Mar 2025 11:54:02
I love the new format as it removed seeding to an extent, seeding imo has blighted a lot of sports, however the best teams will always progress especially over two legs, if you look at the Scottish cup semis its the same teams every year.

{Ed007's Note - I think the new format is a great idea and a breath of fresh air compared to what had become a boring & monotonous format. I used to only watch our matches and maybe the odd other game but kept up with the highlight shows but this year I found myself watching a lot more games and not just ones that had any bearing on Celtic.}

5.) 13 Mar 2025 12:08:08
The Quarter Finals once again only includes the Top 5 leagues and 6 of those clubs played in the Quarter Finals last season.

6.) 13 Mar 2025 12:30:32
DRB a believe big things for us is another European final and mb just mb QF of Cl, your right am not sure those three would progress us to that level and that's the 1s a think we will go for but for me need another mb 2 CB who av not a clue, bhoys on here no btr than me.

7.) 13 Mar 2025 18:19:07
I agree with Ed007; there was nothing I could not agree with about the league section. Many teams like ourselves had some brilliant results and some their fans want to forget .
Liverpool topped the league but it didn’t help them much as they exited competition at their next stage . Maybe they put too much effort concentrating on league and lost a little bit of their edge . To me playing 8 different teams brought a good variety into league and we saw teams playing against teams that they hadn’t played against before .
I am hopeful that we can all see Celtic qualifying for the next number of Champions League’s and enjoy more leagues like this season.

Never take a treble for granted, our recent record in cup competitions is incredible, just look at that lot or Liverpool this weekend to see how easy it is to get knocked out a cup. If we win a treble, even from this position, it’s an amazing achievement.

I tend to agree, with Idah, Maeda, Jota and Kuhn we have more than enough to blitz everyone domestically. Appreciate we may have some injuries at points but Kenny deserves a chance, and hopefully Forrest is back fit soon - would love to see him play a part this season and collect the medals that will see him top the list.

End of the day, we could have signed Haaland yesterday and still been thumped by Bayern, so why bother. I've no doubt we're looking at some targets, Kvistgarden/ Streller, possibly it is them - no team wants to lose thier best player in January, they'll be much easier to deal with in the summer.

We don't do a lot of precontracts so not too sure of the process/ etiquette, he's still an Arsenal player at the end of the day so can't exactly be working for celtic in any way right now (ie photo ops/ interviews/ etc) .

Part of me hopes we might have some sort of get out with it, I can see him playing for Arsenal at some point between now and May and geting injured and ruled out for a year.

gerrymurphy

{Ed007's Note - I'm 99% certain that pre-contracts need to be registered with the relevant FAs and UEFA/FIFA TMS, it's also worth noting I suppose that under English (UK?) law pre-contracts are not legally binding.}

Not really, he is on the bench for Arsenal these days, depends on whether they sign another left back or not for cover. They won’t be rushed, £1m or therabouts might tempt a Scottish club to sell instead of losing a player for nothing, but that sort of fee is a drop in the ocean to Arsenal.

England, along with other previous winners, should be pre-qualified for all world cups, as should the previous tournaments semi finalists (maybe even quarter finalists) . Cut down the qualifying, cut number of international games/ breaks, hopefully get to the point of one or two rounds, home and away knockout fixtures.

And abolish the nations league while we are at it, total waste of time.

I appreciate different folks will have different opinions, I guess we must keep different company, most of my friends, colleagues, people I sit with seem to be on the same page as me.

But this is the whole point, the fan base does not speak with one voice, I’d never believe I spoke on behalf of all Celtic fans, I think the problem with people on my side is that the GB often think they do.

I’m not going to fall out with anyone over it, in the grand scheme it’s not that important to me, but I do think we need to appreciate there are Celtic fans with very different opinions, politics, outlooks, beliefs. No one is more of a Celtic fan than any of the others.

gerrymurphy

{Ed007's Note - You should get them to join the forum to give a better balance. I find it's people "on your side" that think (think being the operative) the GB - it's always the GB isn't it, never the North Curve or BHOYS - speak on behalf of all Celtic fans just use that as an excuse to moan about them.
The GB don't think they do, it's you and "your side" that think the GB do.}
