Apparently closing in on a left back, centre back, midfielder and winger. I'm, assuming the winger is the lad Palma from Greece, unless we are looking at both wings?

A report from Denmark reckons, it would take a bid of £4.5M to get the Young striker and not the £6M mentioned.

2.) 30 Aug 2023 12:23:31
what position do we need to address as a priority.

3.) 30 Aug 2023 14:05:36
I don’t think the players we’ve brought in, are ready to step up in Europe yet.
I still think we need to fill 6 positions.
Keeper, CB, LB, Midfielder, LW and striker.

I’m being greedy and I would be happy with at least 4 new players from those positions.

4.) 30 Aug 2023 14:57:17
I'd agree with you on both fronts Buzz.

If we were to secure 3rd place in the CL and get some sort of run in Europe post Christmas, I'd be happy with that.

If we can then retain the league, maybe add another couple of players in the January window and look to fine tune the core squad of say, 16/ 17 players next summer - that could work.

At the same time we need numbers going out the door too.

Hello and welcome to Devils Advocate.

Obviously we are hoping for a title winning push from Celtic with the Scottish Cup also available.
However, if that happens, would the anger at a very relieved (and probably smug) Board subside; or the attitude of some supporters regarding BR change in any way? Would it also mean we will have more of the same regarding recruitment issues next term?
Or, will it take a disastrous season to force the changes that most supporters have been demanding. This would possibly mean a total rebuild on all fronts. Answers on a postcard.

Even if we win the double OAB3, I would still be apoplectic with the board and we need a plan to in a timely manner remove every single last one of them starting with the Lawwells.
On the same theme anyone hear how the Celtic trust meeting went in Graces last night, tried to attend but couldn’t get parked and gave up.

2.) 01 Mar 2024 15:33:03
I have just parked my anger and frustration until league done, then I intend to reignite it.

3.) 01 Mar 2024 16:59:58
Weejoe

Everything needs parked that includes our anger at the board and the politics.

Your word - we don’t need the green shoots of recovery sabotaged.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

We’ve 10 couple finals to win.

The rest can wait but it’s not going away.

4.) 01 Mar 2024 18:17:11
Agreed jfp.

I thought league was about to slip from our grasp, so has been a welcome surprise to see a glimmer of hope.

Best thing club could do is sack peter lawwell and bankier, as this would cheer the fans up no end.

Firstly, I didn't know atht ref tonight, but clearly another hot off the conveyor belt of cheating bassas. Rule one:- ignore all nudges, obstructions and infringements on Celtic players. Rule two: see rule 1. Anyway, fabulous first half football from Celtic tonight, doing all the things we have been craving and calling for for months and showing - at last - why we are Champions.
Seven different scorers and three headed goals in amongst them reflected the all-round excellence.
Still think we are very soft in the tackle and lack strength in the middle, but as long as we play like that when we have the ball, we can't complain.
Wee bit disappointed we conceded against their 10 men, but by then we had made several changes and the result was in the bag.
This will go all the way and maybe we are finding form and confidence exactly at the right time. H H.

The rookie referee MacDermid tonight has now had 4 Celtic games all at home this season.

He previously had our 0-0 draw with St. Johnstone, our 3-1 win against Kilmarnock and our 2-0 victory against Livingston in December.

The Board can take a lot of responsibility for this situation.
The manager can take much of the blame for this situation.
The players must take their share of criticism also for too many poor performances and not enough goals. Our home form has cost us more points than our away form; Why?
Too many of last seasons treble winners have been nowhere near top form this season. Why?
Is this all down to BR?

MOR started the season on fire but has definitely been distracted by the January transfer speculation.
Incidentally, Bernardo is not the man to replace him IMO.
We have a glut of wingers who are unable to put in a decent cross, never mind beat their man.
Palma is never a Jota, while Khun is a step backwards from even MJ.
How many dozens of corners have we wasted in the past few seasons? Why is the coaching and prep not up to the standard of many opponents?
Our injury list has hampered us but too many of the new squad players are totally out of their depth. This situation is totally self inflicted and although not irreversible, how many of us can see us turning this around with the players and manager at our disposal?

I'm seriously starting to believe now that the reason Rodgers looked so good first time around is because there was no competition. this style of football is terrible.

2.) 17 Feb 2024 19:32:48
If you cast your mind back. About 1.5 years before Brendan left the football was dire. What we are seeing is a continuation of that.

{Ed007's Note - But it was dire at times under Ange in his 2nd season as well, a lot of people are forgetting that.}

3.) 17 Feb 2024 19:38:53
HOF,

so the Invincible season was as a result of no competition - really?

Nonsense.

4.) 17 Feb 2024 19:51:11
I’m not sure, I think Rodger’s has the tactical nouse to match our rivals in city, but his style doesn’t fit Scottish game, teams have us figured out, his style needs to change and if it can’t the change is him, can’t believe I said that but that team is good enough to walk over teams, Rodger’s is reason we’re not.

5.) 17 Feb 2024 19:56:15
Ed no team produces every game, there are always dips in form.

That being said, there were not many games under Ange were it was a hard watch and domestically I always had the belief that we would break through and the vast majority of times we did. Most of the time under Ange it was entertaining and some of the football was sublime.

{Ed007's Note - Hhmmm I don't know Joe, there was a lot of complaining about the sideways passing etc under Ange in his second year.}

6.) 17 Feb 2024 21:21:31
I can only speak for myself ed but realise not everyone may share my opinions.

{Ed007's Note - That's the way to be, Joe ??

7.) 17 Feb 2024 21:33:37
I'd have Ange anyday over Rodgers, it was miles better than what we are witnessing.

We played Dundee few games back and greg Taylor at one point in the game was given a license to play as an inverted wingback and caused allsorts of problems, genuinely a really good player on the ball in that position who opens up the play, and I'm not his biggest fan in general, and that is realistically the last time I watched us thinking it looks like we are getting the type of football back, but I was hugely mistaken, Turkey teeth will be laughing all the way to the bank when he gets the chop, I always think that a manager can't excuse these performances regardless of what we think of the current squad, because I know every manager in the league would love to have these players to work with, Rodgers clearly hasn't a clue.

{Ed007's Note - And yet Spurs wanted Rodgers before they even thought of Ange. Our manager turned down the job Ange got and a mega money move to Saudi Arabia.
Rodgers doesn't need to laugh all the way to the bank, he's already rocked up there like The Joker and makes more money from his property portfolio every year than he does or would as a manager of any club in Europe.}

Relieved, but not very happy after that as it showed more flaws and weaknesses than positives - apart from finding a temporary new penalty taker. Talking of which, it might sound strange complaining about a ref that awarded us 2 pk's in one game; but he stopped the game in Hibs favour for much of the game with non-fouls and did he book the guy that put AJ on a stretcher?
Back to the game and we are still miles off it and so predictable and like Saturday, we lost the plot in the second half and almost conceded two or three before our winner. There is something clearly not right in the camp and you can see it in the faces of some players and the statuesque manager.
We all hope that this will be the turning point of the season, but I still don't have the confidence of last season or the peace of mind.

So far I've estimated six players out the door this month in one way or another and although the surplus had to be addressed, most of the moves seem to have been agreed in the final days of the 'window'.
It's a shame the same amount of effort and persistence hasn't been shown since the window opened. As
at least one real quality addition would have strengthened the team or at least appeased the support, especially with the bad luck we have had with injury all season. Latest reports suggest Hatate, Taylor and maybe CCV are all unavailable with a very tricky schedule of matches in February.
The left-back scenario has been an issue for so long at Celtic it's beyond belief we haven't sorted it.
As it stands today, we are putting most of our eggs in last seasons broken basket and hoping it holds together. This is proving be a much harder season than it should have been thanks to our own failings, but a great boost to our rivals.

Onceabhoy3 I agree with a lot of your post, but maybe one little phase and that is most of the moves out were agreed in the last few days and you express pity that the same effort and persistence hadn’t been shown since the start of the window. .
I refer to you posting “were agreed in the last few days “ . This sums up exactly the problems facing every club during transfer period . Deals have to be agreed . Four parts to deal . Buying club, selling club, player, agent and maybe a 5th players partner . When buying agent and a highly thought of Player not yet at his peak are likely to hold out to end of window and maybe even wait to next window. Usually his club is no no rush either to sell . Same principle when trying to move surplus player on . Clubs in these markets will wait to see if there comes better valued player becomes available .
As we are now in the last 10 hrs of window, the only thing we need to remember is that all deals have to be agreed. I am aware by posting this some people will think I am too soft on our Board . That isn’t my intention, I only want everyone at my Club including the Board to be treated fairly . I don’t know could more deals been agreed, I suspect the answer is “Yes “ Board need to examine that very quickly and if changes are needed, make them.

2.) 01 Feb 2024 15:35:04
CC

I agree with your post.

It's also sometimes like buying / selling a property, a house you might really like and have your heart set on.
However, other potential buyers are also interested in buying / selling.

Within that chain it only takes 1 part of chain to break down then potentially whole deal collapses.

As I've posted previously I'm dreading the meltdown from some and the I told you so fans around 23.30.01

?.

Probably the best 11 available under the circumstances. Happy to see Kyogo starting, with Idah as an impact sub if required.
Definitely down to the bare bones with the International interruption allowing time to get a few back where they belong.

Thought that would be the team considering the amount of injuries, absences and the CCV situation. Need a lot more from Khun, Bernardo and Maeda today. bench we've had for a while as well.

We rarely get away with a simple 'knock' that keeps a player out for a game or two. We have had serious injuries and absences to several key players from the very start of this season and if we do win the league it will be some achievement - ALL things considered.

Although it's yet another change of personnel and formation, I'm hoping that a full week to prepare and practice does the trick.
We have a decent bench to call upon as well so no excuses Celts.

Heard he's a Pretwick man and there's a club down the road in Ayr that would be handy.

I understand the precautions taken with CCV, but when he goes off it affects the whole team. The manager didn't help shuffling the midfield and putting Tomoki at CB because he is reluctant to play Lagerbielke, but he had to relent after they scored.
I also thought we made a lot more of Kyogo's runs during the game and wondered if Scales not being there had anything to do with that?

An attempt to further inflame and amplify sectarian fueled hatred, condoned and encouraged by the Scottish government, The Police and the football association that endorses them.

It's a huge concern that every team in the SPL can score against us so easily. The good news is we are starting to look better in attack and are creating plenty- which is probably just as well.

The officials (including VAR) have a totally separate set of rules regarding Celtic decisions and I am at a loss, as to why Celtic don't use the mounting examples of bias to tackle the corruption.
