Delighted to see Stevie Welsh get a new deal! Brilliant news in my opinion.

That says to me our 4 CBs are secured and we'll likely move on Kobayashi and Scales.

Handy player to have around the place for European quotas and in the event of injury to any of our 3 CD's he is well able to provide cover. I don't ever see him being first choice but every team needs them.

The only positive I can see is his availability for the home grown quota, I appreciate he’s a big Celtic man and he’s living the dream but he’s had many chances and is caught short too many times for me.

I always thought Welsh kwas more dominant in the air than Starfleet although starfelt was a better all round CB.

I can't think of a time when Welsh has let Celtic down. I think under Brendan he can really kick on and he a regular for Scotland too as we're not exactly blessed with CB's at national level.

I'm happy for the player and his family that he's got a new deal.

From a playing point of view, based on what I've seen of him to date, compared to the other CB's, will he be starting 11 at Celtic at anytime in the future - not a chance.

I'm far more excited by the young Swede we've just signed.

Never really had a season where he's played enough to show he's continually progressing but he's been solid when he's been in and his passing accuracy for a CB is class. He'll ddo well under BR I think.

I think Welsh is a decent CB for the SPL and hopefully he will improve more under Rodgers. So a GK, LB, RW and a ST and we are good to go. Hope we can also shift some more of the dead wood in the squad before the window closes.

I think we have one centre half that is a step above in class than our other 3 .
CCV controls the area around him always seems to have situation under control . We signed two new cbs, a Pole who has played 2 games for us and looks very competent and a Swede who only signed this week . We have a fair idea of Welsh’s ability and many of us probably hope he isn’t as good as either the Swede or the Pole, but I wouldn’t be too sure, I think Welsh is underrated by some of our fans and BR seems to rate him highly as he persuaded Stephen to sign a new contract. Hopefully all 3 contribute well to our season.
