Dr Phil or BelfastBhoy

Dr Phil I don't know if you'll know being out of Andersonstown and living in Glasgow for many years but maybe BelfastBhoy would know.

I was in the old Roddy McCorley musuem many years ago. I googled it there when you mentioned Andersonstown and they appear to have built a new Roddy McCorley Heritage Centre.

Do you know what happened to the old museum and the artefacts that were there?

Hi JFP, the new center is built on the grounds of the old museum, all the artefacts etc are still there, and I think they have added a few too. It really is a hidden gem. Glad you got the chance to see the old one, and you've a good reason to head back now lol.

Dr Phil

Thanks very much for the update.

That’s sad the old one is away I couldn’t believe it when I saw this morning that the new one had been built after you mentioning Anderstontown.

There were some artefacts and a half in the old museum upstairs I wonder if everything made their way to the new Heritage Centre?

There won’t be much of the Divis flats or the Ballymurphy estate left either?

I’m in Derry every year and was also sad to see the iconic Bogside Inn was away too where I was a frequent visitor.

I must be getting old.

Hi JFP1888,

I think the old artefacts have been moved into the new museum, they have done up the bar and the restaurant recently too, apparently the food is great if you're ever about that way.

The Divis flats are still alive and kicking at the minute, the Ballymurphy estate is there too. Can't say I've been down that way in a good while but as far as I know.

The PD and the Felons have been done up for a few years now too, brilliant spots.

It looks like big changes compared to the old museum and amazed to hear from Dr Phil that it’s built on the same site.

Fantastic.

Kelly’s Cellars and Fibber Magees behind Robinson’s were some of our haunts in the city centre but the old Roddy McCorley was unique.

I remember visiting andy town to play football. We visited and lived with one of our opponents family for a few days, then they came to Glasgow and lived with us.

Team was called bless saint Oliver plunkett. Was a very friendly place but mental seeing what they had to put up with. I remember seeing the army choppers shining lights down at night and soldiers with machine guns patrolling the streets.

If I recall, anton Rogan lived near by as well.

Weejoe, I grew up in that area, St. Oliver plunkett was my parish, Anton's family lived round the corner. My bro played for st. Oliver plunkett football team. Like Belfast Bhoy was saying, The Felons and PD have been developed well too, and Madden's in town is a good spot. Belfast has changed a lot over the last while. I really notice it when I head home.

Dr Phil

Belfast is a city very much like Glasgow.

My auld man used to say…if you ask somebody in Edinburgh directions you’ll be a lucky man if they tell ye…. but if you ask somebody in Glasgow directions they’ll take ye…. I’ve always found the people of Belfast to be the very same…. beautiful people…. a city like Derry very close to ma heart….
