So be it, if he wants to go and play for a dull mid table EPL side then let him. He will soon realise the error of his ways. Get a decent fee with sell on clause and reinvest. Good player who was made better by BR. Not the end of the world if he goes.

Whilst I can understand him having ambitions elsewhere. West Brom must surely be a stepoing stone too then, because they really are dull.

It's looking more like this lad is being motivated by money. What are West Brom, Bournemouth or Burnley ever going to do apart from get humped by teams week in, week out? He has a chance to be a star for a team that wins things. If he has any doubts, we should make his mind up for him and cash in. There are plenty more decent midfielders out there who would crawl through broken glass to play in the hoops. Sign up or get lost son!

How is it no ambition? Go to West Brom, play well and then get a move to a bigger club. Look a VVD. Moved to Southampton and now about to go to Liverpool. Wanyama did it too. If you were offered 4x your current wages to move to another company and further your career would you not?

I would like SA to stay, but if he wants to go so be it. He may find the grass is not always greener or he may kick on and do really well. I don't agree with some of the posts essentially slagging the boy off - the business model for celtic seems to be to offer players an opportunity to delevop and if they want to move on don't stand in there way. Just because he is Scottish and came from Utd doesn't mean he owes us anything and shouldn't follow a similar path to English or European players.
He was repeated played out of position in his first season and to my knowledge just cracked on with it, then he turned in a solid season with a good goals return under BR. All on modest (in comparison with our top earners) wages.
He is not a Celtic fan, but let's wish him well, cash in while we can and hope he promotes the club to other players in England.

He'll be missed but he's not irreplaceable and he hasn't done anything to warrant a slagging.

{Ed007's Note - The SA was being played out of position is a myth, he played on the left of the Dundee Utd midfield for most of his time there. The problem was he wasn't a winger, he was a left sided midfielder similar to Joe Ledley.}

I for one hope it's true and we can put an end to this will he won't he crap! I couldn't give a toss who he goes to! Just aslong as we squeeze as much money out them as possible! And he's nowhere the player of a VVD or a wanyama! He'll go to one of the also rans down there and that will be it for him! Like I said, hope this is put to bed soon because it's boring now! Get him sold and move on! Ntcham mcgregor eboue benyu all ready to step in! And I hope one of them gets a chance 2morrow!

Lh86 why would any celtic fan want to see one of their best and most influential players go and be replaced by an inexperienced rookie. Cannot understand that for a minute, and how much to you think celtic would get for a player with less than 1 year left on his contract?

Perhaps I'm just a romantic but if someone doesn't want to play for the shirt then I wouldn't keep him. The players who have inspired me over the years are those who have given everything for their team and didn't follow the money. These are not necessarily the best players but the players with the biggest hearts and give everything. I realize that this mentality is dying with the money available to players nowadays I think Celtic over the years have been blessed more than other teams by players who love Celtic and give everything so I wouldn't keep anyone in Armstrong's position if he does't want to stay. In saying this I will be sad to see Izzy go if the rumors are true.

Fair point ed, do you reckon he is better than joe Ledley? I'm a big fan of SA but thought Joe was a cracking player. I like SA in the no.10 role but I think a fully fit 90 mins Rogic is a better option.

{Ed007's Note - That's a tough one because I thought Ledley was a top player for us but Armstrong is the best box to box, goal scoring midfielder we've had since Stan Perov.}

I agree with what you are saying in that when a player says they want to go then you need to find a way of moving him on, but SA has never said he wants to leave, he is just trying to get the best deal possible and right now he is negotiating from a strong position having had a great season and also having 1 year left.

He probably looks at the squad and sees players earning 4 times what he does and doesn't play as well. I would imaging that he is looking to close that gap, and if Celtic don't offer him that then he will probably move on, IMO this whole saga is not about him signing a new deal but it's about how much Celtic want him and can afford to offer him.
