This is the worry - especially with The Leicester Louse keeping tabs on our players. It wouldn't surprise me if the Turnbull deal isn't a sweetener for some bad news on the horizon.
It's also more likely that we will only get decent bids for decent players and the surplus fringe players will be harder to shift?
All we can hope for is that the Board uses any considerable income to invest in real quality and not supplement/ settle for bargains.
We cannot afford to drop our standards, or lose the initiative.

2.) 21 Jun 2019 21:25:37
I fully believe that our "contacting" Turnbulls people last night was because of the below. I was discussing a couple of points with a pal of mine last night and today about the whole situation.

1. we were custard pied by other targets after telling him to jog on.
2. we needed that type of player because we have already accepted an offer from the RAT for Big Tam Rogic.

I then heard that some unknown Journo down south has now stated that a 17.5mil bid will be coming in from RAT City for Calmac. It all seems to be falling into place for Pedro.

Build a half decent team that can do damage with adequate additions (additions we all have been screaming out to get for 3 windows if not more. RB and CB's) and our team could be dismanteled to fill it with Kilmarnock and Motherwell players.

What if the Kieran bids are to good to refuse, also what if the Eddy bids are to good to refuse (not from the fans stand point, we are meaningless to the club) as i appears now. Its ok Pedro will sanction moves for Taylor and Brophy from Killie. Not to mention the still more than possible move for O'connel to fill lustigs boots.

I couldn't care less if they are signing people, they take in 10 players a season and still haven't won a cup. We are being taken for granted and have been for far to long. The fans deserve a better product on the pitch.

We are 3 or 4 very good signings in key areas away from being an excellent football team. This top guys have to be kept otherwise the back lash that will come if we fail to get 9 far less 10 will be on a massive scale.

3.) 21 Jun 2019 21:39:48
Love big tam to bits buts he's no where near fit enough to play in epl he's not even fit enough to play in spl half the time.

4.) 21 Jun 2019 22:05:51
God I hope Rodgers has had a bid for the myth that is rogic.

5.) 21 Jun 2019 22:45:24
Now could be the time to cash in on Rogic. has been a good player for us but we're just not getting value for him over the past 18 months.

I expect a goalie to leave and maybe 2 or 3 other midfielders.

I will end up on that Kerrydale Meltdowns Twitter account if Tierney, McGregor or Forrest go.

6.) 22 Jun 2019 02:08:04
Why do people always think the worst? He could of meant fringe players.

7.) 22 Jun 2019 02:55:17
I Would be amazed if Celtic were willing to let McGregor or Forrest go or if the players themselves would want to go. Ya maybe it's rogic they are after which l won't mind too much. Good player but injury prone and a drifts in and out of games at times.

8.) 22 Jun 2019 05:08:45
Would happily let rogic go for the right money but we must keep mcgregor and tierney. The club should issue a statement saying under no circumstances this season will tierney or mcgregor be going anywhere. Let yer Leicester, Arsenal, Napoli etc know they can’t just turn up here thinking the can take our best players on the cheap. I mean £15 million for tierney. are arsenal having a laugh? That only buys his right leg.

9.) 22 Jun 2019 12:27:02
What would people realistically expect for Rogic? £6m? As he isn't prolific enough in a poor league and his fitness is horrendous. Bit like McCourt, pleasing on the eye bags of ability but the fitness of a pub league player.

10.) 22 Jun 2019 16:48:21
if we can see rogic only gives us a bit of a season so can everyone else and that includes the rat so why would they be interested in paying good money for him, its most likely calmac as i seem to remember the rat saying that calmac had everything to be a top player and any team would want him.

10 Jan 2019 17:27:34
Reports coming out of America that we have signed Gutman and Manny Perez more young players coming in. I do not have a problem with youth as long as there are quality and stay a good few years.

jonace

1.) 10 Jan 2019 23:12:02
Manny perez following celtic twitter now, could be nothing or could mean he's signed. Any chance at all you think hell be a first team player this season Ed, if signed?

{Ed007's Note - He might get a run out against a Dundee or Accies or depending on who we get in the cup but I can't see him being a regular starter.}

16 Jun 2018 16:11:12
I have just read that the Edouard transfer fee was as follows
4.5 million + add ons for champions league group stage qualifing for four years + extra if capped for france + his agent and wages for four years
Total 9 million that would tie in with what BR said.

jonace

1.) 16 Jun 2018 17:03:20
I can’t believe what you’ve just described is the biggest potential outlay ever by the club, which is what they said in the club statement. Sutton and Lennon were both £6m and must surely have been on at least £25k per week in wages.

2.) 17 Jun 2018 01:44:09
I'll concede that the deal has been done ;) . As far as the contractually binding bump up fees go? . Your a country mile ahead jono. I've not seen the paperwork. No one has. Unless James Forrest decides to write a novela of his life so far with a tasty insider tell all and spills the beans we will never know.

3.) 18 Jun 2018 11:38:58
What’s your source for this breakdown?

22 May 2018 16:24:02
I see we are being linked to a Newcastle defender. They are quoting a price of 8 million it will never happen at that cost no way will Pl or BR sanction that for a player who could not even play in a mediocre PL team.
Also i have not seen any interest in Stuart Armstrong from any sites he will be lucky to get a move to a average championship club. He would be better off staying where he is on improved terms.
And finally i believe that the deal for Osmund Edouard would be more like the same as that of Ntcham.

Can someone please explain to me why Simpson and Hatem Elhamed are better players than O'Donnell and Kerr. Apart from being older.

jonace

1.) 18 Jul 2019 19:48:02
Well Simpson had played most his career at a much higher level including 213 in the EPL plus about 100 in English championship.
In that time he’s won the epl, the championship twice and the play off final.
O’donnell Has hit the hits of Patrick thistle, Luton and Kilmarnock winning the sfl 1st title.

That answer your question?

2.) 18 Jul 2019 20:04:24
Mika Lustig looks a fine option at right back in this context.

3.) 18 Jul 2019 20:36:29
Yes and he is 32 yrs old if that is the case perhaps we should ask Danny McGrain if he wants to play RB.

4.) 18 Jul 2019 21:58:30
Playing your career at a supposedly much higher level, in no way, is a reflection on how much better you are than a player, who, at the moment, is playing at a supposedly, lower level,

5.) 19 Jul 2019 00:06:43
If he is still fit what does age matter really.

Only thing we should be asking is he good enough?

The answer O'Donnell and Kerr is no they are not and never will be. They will never reach the heights of Simpson's career.

The Danny Mcgrain comment is just stupid because your comparing a guy that's playing at a high level to a guy that's in his 70s.

Our captain is 2 years older than this guy and our most dangerous midfield is 2 years younger.

6.) 19 Jul 2019 07:11:31
Jonace, Simpson is also 32 mate .

7.) 19 Jul 2019 08:49:42
Danny Alves is 36 and is still the best right back in the world. Age is irrelevant if the player looks after themselves.

17 Jul 2019 17:28:24
I see NL saying it is very difficult to aquire a RB.
The latest name being a failed german RB.
Have we not learned from passed mistakes Gamboa Toljan and others
We have also seen scottish PL players leave to go south for them to Then transfer to larger clubs for big money
Players like Mcginn, Lindsey and Maclean are considered very good players
If NL wants two RBs parhaps he should consider O'Donnell and Jason Kerr one for home games { a very good attacking full back} and one for away games and european matches { a very strong defender}.

jonace

1.) 17 Jul 2019 18:46:05
Which one is the very good attacking fullback and which one is the very strong defender?

2.) 17 Jul 2019 18:59:23
It's a disgrace that we haven't identified players that would fit the bill for the positions we clearly need with the quality that we can afford at this stage same every year same excuse same p*** yes we want and need quality but if the scouts haven't identified by now sack them and get ones in that can do the job.

3.) 17 Jul 2019 21:42:21
If we are struggling why haven't they identified loan signing for RB?
Stalling for time by looks of it to see if we get through CL qualifiers.

4.) 17 Jul 2019 21:43:52
There is not one player in the SPFL that is good enough to play week in week out at Celtic that isn't already there.

5.) 17 Jul 2019 22:20:20
Kev83, sort of agree but we don't have a RB😂. I think O'Donnell faired ok with Scotland although admittedly I've not seen him much for Killie.

6.) 17 Jul 2019 22:52:18
Chinks67 at best he's a squad player and that's it. Not what we need. We need someone that's going to really make an impact.

7.) 18 Jul 2019 01:12:57
I'd be happy with a loan signing of similar standard we have loaned in recent years to rectify issue. We all want a permanent signing which we need, but if we can't get one why not loan a player that is head and shoulder above in class.

12 Jul 2019 11:46:19
I am disturbed by the reaction of some people to scottish born players.
They seem to think if you did not come through the celtic academy and progress to the first team you are not good enough.
It is fine to want foreign players for the squad.
1. How many want to come and play in the scottish league.
2. How many are good enough too wear the jersey
3. How many will play for the money we are offering
Once you factor in these facts the pool of potential targets gets very small.
We have seen over the years a number of seemingly good players flop under the pressure of playing for a big club.
Scottish based players can compete at the highest level
Robertson and Christie.
Who is to say that O'Donnell would be less of a RB than some who have worn the jersey in recent years.
He would clearly be less costly than some of the non scottish people who have been touted in recent weeks and I would be surprised if we could be out bid by a championship club as has been the case recently.

jonace

1.) 12 Jul 2019 12:12:56
I have watched O Donnell closely when he plays for Scotland and I think he struggles at that high level. He does have potential and he will get better but at this stage I would only have him as cover and see how he progresses.
After waiting a long time, we have to get the right man for this position.
I will be raging if we get the Beer Sheva player to play right back because he is not good enough and is more of a central defender. All the clubs he has been to have loaned him out and I do think it is his agent that is pushing for the move, rather than its a player Celtic have identified.
If Celtic have identified him, then we could have cover for right back and centre half but he he would not be my first choice.

2.) 12 Jul 2019 12:14:52
The sense of entitlement from our fan base disgusts me bud, could sigh a worldie and they would still find a reason to bitch and complain. Same people that are moaning we haven’t signed a RB are now complaining that we might sign a RB, their total ignorance astounds me.

3.) 12 Jul 2019 12:33:40
I'd personally be happy with odonnel for the league but as Leon said we need someone with a bit more quality for Europe.

4.) 12 Jul 2019 13:04:09
Why? We are not going to be able to compete in europe regardless lol.

Celtic could sign kyle walker for 50 mil. And we still won't make it out the group stages.

5.) 12 Jul 2019 13:39:05
Stephen O’Donnell is 27 years old, he is well past his “has potential “ days, we need to find a better quality of right back than that .

6.) 12 Jul 2019 14:13:34
I didn't realise he was 27 Drewzybhoy. With the experience he has got with International football, I would still have him as back up.
Hopefully we get a right back before the euro deadline on Thursday. It would be good for him to play a couple of competitive games before the competition in europe gets stronger.

7.) 12 Jul 2019 14:22:58
I have never had any problem signing Scottish based players but right now there are none that would make us a better team other than maybe Turnbull and that's open to debate.
I can't see a Barry Robson, Paul Hartley or Stuart Armstrong in our league right now.

McDonnell isn't some young player that's going to jump leaps and bounds talent wise. He's 27 which should be his peak years.
He is a not bad player but he'd be a back up level at best for us IMO.

11 Jul 2019 11:30:14
Maybe we are waiting on Castenge if we get through th CL qualifiers. As a RB there would be no better after all
he is yet to sign for Juventus. we maybe his only real option.

jonace

1.) 11 Jul 2019 12:47:41
If we've got a spare 10mill lying around.

2.) 11 Jul 2019 13:29:37
Heard he had just signed a new contract where he is?

3.) 11 Jul 2019 15:40:02
Highly doubt we would be a Belgian internationalist only option mate. that ship has sailed as far as I can see. juve and a few EPL teams interested.

4.) 11 Jul 2019 19:52:20
Is he not signing for Crystal Palace?

10 Jul 2019 20:19:58
Team we could play on Saturday
Gordon
Ralston
Hendry
Jullien
Tierney
Arzani
Kouassi
Ntcham
Morgan
Rogic
Griffiths.

jonace

1.) 10 Jul 2019 20:46:50
Tierney isn't fit.

2.) 10 Jul 2019 21:04:40
Hendry rogic and Tierney are injured.

3.) 10 Jul 2019 21:10:45
Nitcham, should not play for us again, let him rot and train by himself, it's enough that we have to pay the ungrateful B,

4.) 10 Jul 2019 22:19:42
Gordon, Ralston, welsh, julien, gutman, morgan, kouassi, Henderson, biton, hayes, griff,

5.) 10 Jul 2019 22:26:00
Let him rot? What are you on.

6.) 10 Jul 2019 23:51:46
Half of those players are injured / recovering from injury. Don’t think Ntcham is back with us yet either.

7.) 11 Jul 2019 00:05:00
It would be better to not give him transfer to his preferred destination Marseille and sell him to a club that has no European football this season.

He has stated he doesn't feel quality of Scottish game is good enough for him, so it would be kinder to punt him to mid to low EPL team since he doesn't feel confident.

I hope Turnbull still signs. If he dosn't then it is down to the agent not the club. This could make clear to other players and agents that the club is bigger than anyone person.
The agent concerned may find that other players will think twice before joinng him as Celtic are clearly saying we will not be messed about; take it or leave it.

I don, t think any of these players are any good definately not any better than Ralston or Hendry. If we want good young defenders then look to Mexico and the RB and CB playing for Club America. Edison Alvarez and Jorge Sanchez together they would cost £10 million hopefully for the full package and bringing them over together would definately help them settle in at celtic park and allow us to get the best out of them.

I hear everything people are saying about Hendry, but in his defence he has not been played in his prefered position and without a run in the team nor a regular partner.
Watching Ajer and Siminovic play together I get the feeling this is the pairing in practise matches and in training. They look confortable with one and other likewise Boyata and Benekovic.
He has been played at RB and on right of a three he plays like Ajer in style and physical appearance and i would prefer Hendry or Bitton to Boyata. We have looked much better with ball playing defenders. Boyata may have a role to play in difficult away matches and I would like us to play 3 central defenders at Valencia and Ibrokes and maybe at Pittodrie and Tynecastle.

Have any of you actually seen any of these players play live in the flesh. Toumari isn't ready yet he has still some way to go in his physical development before he is ready for CL or the the grim house. Of those mentioned only Benekovic is close to ready and he may only be here for a year. Remember he could not get back into the side aftre his return from injury.

I have always thought that making positive bids for Scottish based players was good business.
However everytime you suggest a scottish player the readers of this site shoot you down.
They quote Hendrey, Mackay-Stevens and others forgeting we have always looked first to home for players.
The speak the language, understand the pressures and know the league.
Can anyone really tell me why O'Donnell is a poorer choice at Rb than others who have been mentioned here or McKenna a lesser Cb or that Brophy has a poorer goalscoring record than any others we enquire about.
Think back to the past and the great players we picked up from other scottish teams; Simpson, Wallace, Murrey, Stanton, Macadam, McClair, Macloud, Collins, Macavennie, Boyd, Douglas, Macnammra, Brown, Armstong and Christie These are just a few over each decade I am sure others can be added.
