Most Celtic fans are born into Celtic due to our mostly Catholic families.
Have any of our readers got a different story into our Celtic Family which could be from a foreign community.
Or maybe our big Protestant supporters and how that came about.
I'm bored and curious, sorry.

Not a story but I know a lot of protestant Celtic supporters but don't know one catholic rangers supporter.
{Ed007's Note - I've only ever know two in my entire, one of them was OK and sadly died a few years back but the other one is a total clownshoe who basically done it at secondary school for attention and then couldn't back down.}

I know several non-Catholic Celtic supporters but we did have 2 brothers at our school who preferred to 'follow, follow'. It was back in the 1970's and although there was never any repercussions between any of us, I could never understand how they tolerated the bigotry and intolerance contained in 99% of the repertoire at their games.
{Ed007's Note - Oh I know loads of non-Catholics that support Celtic, I don't think that's as big a shock perception/society wise as a Catholic supporting TRIFC.}

My mothers side are all protestants and Rangers daft, my fathers side are all catholics and Celtic daft. I'm neither Catholic or Protestant but I'm Celtic daft.

I hate using the word protestant, I find it a divisive term but yeah I'm one of them. My dad supported Celtic (an atheist who surprisingly enough wasn't religious) . I followed my dad's footsteps and supported Celtic. First game was either 5-0 against St Mirren or the 0-1 defeat to AC Milan 1968. I'm ashamed to say at pre 2012 OF games, I was more bitter than my Catholic Celtic supporting fans I went to the games with. High school life was tough. The majority respected me being a Celtic supporter. But there were 2 or 3 who gave me a hard time. F***** b****** etc. Hard core bigots. Fortunately nothing physical. But yeah, scary at times.
{Ed007's Note - I know what you mean about the Protestant thing, my wife went to "Protestant" primary & secondary schools, through her choice she's been in Chapels more than she's ever been in a Church, she supports Celtic, she's been to Rebel nights & parades over the years...
Is it an age thing? Back in the day there were "Kafflick" and "Proddy" schools so if you didn't go to one you must have went to the other... it's more non-Denomination these days. Many moons ago my future wee sis in law's "Proddy" primary got knocked down and after a battle with the council she went to the Catholic school just round the corner, for 3/4 years, even at Holy Cross there were Muslim kids when I was there and a Muslim teacher. I don't think the lines are as clear cut in reality as they are in us a society's head... maybe...

I'd question any Catholic will a semblance of intelligence and self respect who supports SEVCO.
It, for me, defies all logic given they would be listening to the 'Billy Boys' being belted out by the 'PEEPUL' at every game amongst the repertoire of bile these neanderthals recite.
☘️ ? ☘️.
{Ed007's Note - Ped, you'll know one of them 100% who I'm talking about and might know the other one that's passed.}

Same as you bhoy88. I'm from corby, my mums side are mostly rangers from lanark and glasgow, my dad's side are all Catholic and celtic from Glasgow. I'm not religious myself but celtic daft.
{Ed007's Note - That's the thing, Cory, I've got no problem with people that say they aren't religious - everyone knows there's a few of us here that are - it's the people that equate going to watch Celtic or TRIFC as being a good Catholic/Protestant, the knuckledraggers we see every July that have never been near a Church in their life. Just like going to watch Celtic or a Rebs night doesn't make you a better Catholic or equate to going to Mass..
And I will pipe up that if you've been Baptised - not Christened!! - then even if you aren't religious you are still a Catholic and part of The One True Faith ?

I’m Church of Scotland but support Celtic; largely because Kenny Dalglish was playing for us when I was a lad and he was my favourite player. Despite being tenuously related to Willie Waddell I get as much pleasure out of Rangers losing as I do with Celtic winning.

Well my story started in 1988 when my Polish football played against 'them' and we lost miserably but we beat theirs supporters well and chase them all over the my city, then in 2006 I moved in to Glasgow and the rest is history HH.

I’ve tried to pin point why exactly I support Celtic, I can’t remember where my choice came from. But comes down to a few points I believe.
I remember at school, all of the other kids that supported Rangers tended to be horrible people. Arrogant and Ignorant always. A lot of bullies supported them. Very rarely were any of them sound folk.
The Celtic fans tended to be nicer people and less arrogant. Just decent folk that weren’t getting in trouble etc. I’m not sure if that had something to do with the catholic influence from there families.
I never grew up religious. My Dad is an atheist and I would say he is anti religious but again, he always said he was a Celtic fan. That seemed strange considering Celtic’s ties to the catholic religion. My grandad was a Hearts fan, My brother and sister then followed Hearts because of him.
To this day I still follow Celtic, I don’t practice any religion and consider myself agnostic. However, I do know I’m supporting the good guys and that gives me all the faith I feel that I need!

Here 1s for yous, when my nephew was younger he wore a Celtic scarf AND a Sevco scarf. the reason for it was that he used to deliver Chinese meals and he would suss out which team the customer supported so he would wear the scarf of there team when he went to the door for a bigger tip?♂️.
{Ed007's Note - Bus drivers done the same for years going to Celtic Park or Ibrox, even the guys that sell the merchandise around grounds are playing both sides.}

Great thread this.
Grew up in a non practising Protestant family nobody really followed football. When I was about 10 my folks bought a hotel in small town west coast Scotland. My brother was sent to the Protestant school I was sent to the Catholic School!
Don’t remember supporting any football team until college in 90’s when I was supporting My local team which was Raith - same time McStay missed the Penalty in the Scottish Cup.
2 years later moved to Glasgow (Bridgeton) been supporting Celtic ever since…
Recently been shown a photograph (back when I was about 10) of me wearing a green Jumper with. Green and white hoops in a band round the chest - with a Rangers Scarf loaded with badges on it - I didn’t look happy ?
Apparently somebody thought it would make a good photo!

I started supporting Celtic in defiance to my family who were all Rangers supporters.
The 76/ 77 Scottish Cup final was the first final televised in over 20 years. It was a big occasion. I remember being over at my grandfathers house as he was the only one with a colour tv. My dad, uncles, cousins, all supporting Rangers. My favourite player at the time was Danny McGrain (I was a defender when I played) and I started to cheer everytime he tackled and won the ball much to the annoyance of everyone.
It just started there. Nothing to do with religion. Just a wee upstart wanting to rebel against everyone else.

I went to a non-denomination school and was a Celtic fan since I was a young boy, mostly because my dad supported Celtic (my mum was a Rangers fan) , most of the people at my school where Rangers fans. It was especially tough as I was at school during their 9 in a row.
Think that's why I really appreciate
the good times now.

Same here Paulm74, I had to suck it up at a non-denomination primary and secondary schools. I was blown away with football Celtic played I suppose that's why I started supporting Celtic. Celtic for me has always been sort of a magical fairy tale. I don't think there's any other club who scores the amount of last minute goals like Celtic.

Growing up my dad was and still is a Rangers/ Newco fan, we stopped talking whilst I was growing up and just getting into football/ high school and what better way to get it round your Hun Da than choosing Celtic as your team to support.
It helped my best mate at School was Celtic daft and sleepovers at his included his old man playing rebel tunes to wake us in the morning.
I started speaking to my dad after school and during the Martin O'Neill era, fair to say two old firms together with one being Sutton after 12 second's. We don't talk anymore and don't watch football together ?.

No history of Celtic supporting in my family . In fact no support for any soccer teams in the rural Western area of the Demi -Province . My older brother went to Glasgow and sent a few programmes over and I became hooked.
