Where is all the Engels hate coming from on social media? Am I missing something here. A 20 year old Belgian, moved from Germany to Scotland played 53 games and provided 23 goal contributions and is now 21 years old.

If someone from our youth came in and posted those numbers we'd be ecstatic and wanting £30m for him. Why are people desperate to get rid of the player which in my opinion has the highest potential in the squad?

I've seen this 100 times over. People wanted Ajer out after a few games. Look how good a player he turned out to be.

{Ed007's Note - I have asked numerous people who like to take a pop at Engels what they expected/wanted him to do that he hasn't and none of them can give me an acceptable answer.
There is supporters out there who will never change their mind about Engels & Idah because it means admitting they were wrong.}

It’s baffling ED! If any other midfielder posted those numbers from midfield they’d be going crazy for him! I fully expect him to kick on next season wherever he ends up. There’s a reason he’s highly sought after.

{Ed007's Note - If he's still here next season he will be up there for every POTY award.}

I don't know what you mean by 23 goal contributions but he has 9 assists.

{Ed007's Note - Arne Engels has scored 10 goals and has 13 assists in all competitions - 23 goal contributions.}

Idah has scored 23 goals with not many starts and big goals at that and he gets it tight as well,

He's a good penalty taker ?.

{Ed007's Note - He still needs to score them, I don't see any of our more experienced players like our captain stepping up to take/score them.}

Engels numbers are good and I expect him to kick on and have more influence next season.

Personally I don’t think he was influential enough to be branded a £30M player. Maybe come 2026 he will be in that bracket.

Idah with a full pre season under his belt will also kick on. His numbers are excellent for the number of starts he has. In some games his link up play was excellent and added another dynamic to the team. Really feel he will be on another level next season.

8 of they 10 goals are from the spot. So that 2 goals from normal play in 51 apps from our record signing. I don't see the hype myself.

{Ed007's Note - What hype, there is no hype surrounding Engels - he's a fantastic young footballer who will only get better and will probably go for a Scottish record fee in a year or two - it's a response to those fans that simply can't see past his price tag. Is that the problem, because he isn't getting the ball and running about like a Messi/Ronaldo crossbreed he's a waste of money? I'll assume you do know he played as a No.6 for most of his career before coming here.
Engels is a midfielder, not a striker, CalMac has scored 25 goals over the past 5 seasons in 240 appearances & this seasons 10 goals only give that stat any respectability at all, he scored 2 goals in 45 apps last season - he must be the worst Celtic captain ever then?
We'll not even start on that waster Schmeichel, that lump of wood has never managed to score one solitary goal and he's nearly at 780 appearances! At least he was on a free though, right?}

{Ed007's Note - What hype, there's been no hype around Engels, it's people who can't see past his price tag that are the problem, I think they expected him to come in and be a Messi/Ronaldo crossbreed even though he was a No.6 until he came here. Maybe the hype came from people who seen Engels fee and never bothered to look at what type of player we were signing, a No.6 that Rodgers is trying to mould into a top box-to-box No.8 midfielder.
I'm baffled that you are using a midfielders scoring record as a stick to beat him with, let's look at CalMac, our captain and one of the best Scottish players of his generation scored 2 goals in 45 appearances last season, he's scored 25 over the past 5 seasons in 240 apps and 10 of those were this season, a season where Engels being in the team allowed McGregor to push forward more - in the previous 4 seasons before this one, CalMac played in 188 games and scored 15 goals. Obviously you've never rated CalMac with a scoring record like that.
And don't get me started on that waster Schmeichel, in nearly 780 career appearances that lump of wood hasn't managed to score one solitary goal.
And I don't see any of our more experienced players or our captain stepping up to take the responsibility of hitting penalties, since when did we start slagging off players for scoring penalties?
What did you expect from Engels, what did you want him to do that he hasn't done?}

For his fee and the fact he's our record signing I'd expect him to be running the show and being a stand out most games. He's been posted missing in the derbies this season. For the price tag the Jury's still out that's all I'm saying. Of course his transfer fee will come with huge expectation.

{Ed007's Note - Take it up with Rodgers then, it's him that plays CalMac in the "running the show" role. Apart from his short passing game which can be a bit erratic at times Engels stats for the season show he has had an excellent season.
So who wasn't posted missing in most of this seasons derbies, will we rake over the coals of those games and who went missing in them?
Maybe some people need to lower their expectations, especially if they're huge, and not get hung up on fees, we've wasted over £10 million on CBs and Engels goals and performances helped make us millions in the CL and on the verge of another domestic treble - if we sold him this summer we'd get £20m minimum.}

Ed, there are some who just live to moan.

No matter how good things are they still pick holes.

Engels has come into a far more physical league than he was used to, yet his numbers are still good.

I agree, next season he will come into his own.

You can see his vision, his technique and at 21, he will only get better and stronger in next couple of seasons.

He has a very difficult role, supporting our defence and our offensive players, tying them together, a role he is still coming to terms with.

As for the comment about being a good penalty taker, who else has done better than him, or volunteered ahead of him.

Just remember what was said about Yang, Kuhn, Bernardo, all were criticised but have shown great improvement and none of them were at Engels level when they came in.

{Ed007's Note - ????I'm already dreading it if we sign Lennon Miller this summer and the lad misplaces a pass.}

If we get offered £20m for Engels this summer we should take it?.

{Ed007's Note - Thankfully the Club wouldn't.}

The club know what they have. Engels is a real talent and will make all these doubters eat there words. I bet he’ll post 15 goals and assists next season!

Weirdly a lot of the folks that think Kyogo is a club Legend are the folk that think Engels is pish lol

Says a lot!

{Ed007's Note - Kyogo was best since Larsson though ??

Those who are ridiculing both Engels and Idah are of the same mindset as our Board had for 10 yrs up until a couple of years ago .
These fans feel that £5 - £6 m was good enough for M o’Neil to spend over 20 yrs ago and they don’t trust BR to spend more in the mid 2020’s.

Both Idah and Engels came to Scotland, certainly not to earn big money but to be coach and learn the game from a manager who has a very good reputation at developing young players .

Both Engels and Idah have written about not been happy with the over the top criticism they have received. Our plans to have a successful season next season will be made an awful lot harder to achieve if these two insist on moving on to where they will be more appreciated by their fans.

Engles played 53 games
Scored 10 with 13 assists
Passing 84.7%
Chances created 53
He will develop under Brendan hopefully we get another 2 or 3 years from him as he will be attracting attention from abroad.
He will earn us millions but folk want more from the lad?.
