So apparently Greg Taylor signs a pre-contract agreement with Dynamo Zagreb to accommodate an I'm staying put until the summer for the wonga pub league reject loudhaler Bhoy. Sad. Celtic were excellent last night albeit calm down we were playing nobody. Possibly the best squad we've had for many years but fecked up for want of a striker that Rodgers evidently thought was coming by a Celtic board massively lacking ambition and out their depth. A well run business but a long way from a well run football club. And with qualifiers to play.

Trust the process aye? There is no strategic process. As I said we should be rocking up next Wednesday standing in the tunnel the best version of ourselves we could be with the players looking them in the eye saying Bayern who? Instead if Idah gets injured Kenny leads the line against them. So sad. Get shot of them and the absentee landlord. Terminado 2. Shameful.

What are you havering about JFP?
Taylor was never good enough for Celtic and it showed in the big games. Unless you are happy scudding the likes of Dundee and the like every season then we will get Nowhere with the likes of Taylor in the team
As for the rubbish you are going on about with KT, That makes no sense at all.
As for rocking up next week and looking them in the eye, We could have spent £13m in a new striker and still get scudded 5-1, 6-3, 4-2 as there is NO Chance that we will get past Bayern.

Jon

Don’t give me the we could have spent £100m and still wouldn’t lay a glove on Bayern Munich nonsense. Read my post again if you can read. Will we be the best version of ourselves we could have been next Wednesday or has Rodgers been left down.? What position in the Celtic team couldn’t be improved for Europe? Why single out Greg Taylor?

Brendan’s Brain

You read ma post as well I said we have the best squad we’ve had for years. I know what the score was I was there.

You guys are the reason we are where we are.

So close yet so far. But heh ho we’re better than the ragers.

???‍♂️ Surely we aren’t using them as our benchmark! A team that have won hardly anything in this life?

GT has been a great servant and i was hoping for an upgrade, like others he’s been found missing in Europe at times but he gave his all, Is Kt an upgrade? IF he’s fit and playing definitely but it’s a massive IF.

There is absolutely no doubt we should have had a striker bought in January, anyone believing any pish about saving the cash for the summers on too plums. As long as Lawell is still meddling we won’t go that extra mile.

But we beat Dundee 6-0 ?.

Not just our board of dinosaurs that lack ambition, too many supporters happy to settle and accept their ‘place’. Why don’t we just continue to dominate Scottish football til the manager followed by the players and then eventually the supporters get bored fecking rigid. Then just shut down because nobody gives a rats arse anymore. If we don’t have show the ambition to aspire to better things, why even bother. Personally, I want us to push every boundary we possibly can and I don’t want to settle. Should we contact Bayern Munich and tell them we’re not playing because there’s no fuckin point!

To achieve our potential and fulfil our dreams of being in the top tier we need to find a way into the English setup. I don't know how we would do that, but money always talks, and our 'Club caretakers' must engineer a pathway.

{Ed007's Note - So how do Spanish, Italian, French or Portuguese etc etc compete?

Well said 100%.

Some of our bars and aspirations for the club we love are higher than others.

I don’t have any illusions regarding how difficult it is for us to go up the food chain but we can certainly aim higher than we have done in the past. The problem with certain people connected with our club is that they don’t even seem to want to or are too terrified to try. And again, no one expects us to bankrupt the club trying but with the finances we have, we should be aiming to secures regular access to CL cash which will in time elevate our status.

JFP1888, can you explain what we should have done in the window to be the best version of ourselves against Bayern?
Some people still would have had issues with the window if we spent 15 million on Kvistgaarden, the same people would be complaining that he isn’t worth the money once he takes over 2 games to settle. Idah gets his chance to prove himself worthy of his price tag. The club will strengthen in the summer.

Chasaboy I think you’re spot on we should be pushing to get the best out of the team but what does that look like? Not being rude I just want to know what you think would make us take that next step. Personally I’m happy to win the league every year and would never get bored at winning but I get your point as Europe should be the bench mark. To me Europe this year has showed us to be at a fair level, we got a favourable draw but we still had to do it on the pitch. Aim next year should be to automatically qualify or get into the last 16.

It is a fine balancing act winning our league and being successful in Europe.

By that I mean, finding a way of winning in Europe by not spending ridiculous money that we put ourselves in danger as a club, like Leeds did.

Other clubs have been reasonably successful and spent a lot less than us and some have sent hundreds of millions and done nothing.

People call our board dinosaurs because they don't spend, spend, spend. Others call them responsible because they are careful with our money.

Our club is the envy of many others due to how we are run.

In the summer they sent 20 million on 2 players and still came out with a profit during the window. That's great business to me.

We as a club cannot afford to spend those sums every window. It is just not realistic and realistically we shiwed during Anges time, we can find gems who cost less.

It's not how much you spend but how well you spend it. This is where our new recruitment team are supposed to come in and the summer will be our real opportunity to see if that investment will pay off.

All the above is not to say I am happy with the window, I wanted defensive reinforcements, the striker issue didn't really concern me one way or the other.

I think Idah, Maeda and Kenny can cover that with support of Khun and Jota.

JFP
Stop talking rubbish, where did I mention £100m? Obviously you can't read.
What difference would Kyogo make in the Bayern game?
Lay off the gin as you are just making an arse of yourself.

Need to lose this obsession about the Bayern game and Kvistgarten. The issue goes beyond that. We lost our best striker and didn’t replace him, expressly against the wishes of our manager as he clearly wanted another striker and ended up minus one instead. Getting people in should have been in preparation for the next attempt at the CL prize money ie the qualifiers. Any progression will take time but it will take even longer if you delay or don’t even begin the process. What we need to step up is a change in mindset that we can progress. That also requires funding, and the CL groups is our best way to achieve that. Historically, have we ever been prepared for qualification? The people running this club have always had a ‘ just enough to get by’ attitude. We had almost 20 years of Lawell waiting to see if we qualified before spending ( and failing ) instead of spending a little to give us the best chance.
As a club, we have achieved so much, regularly punching above our weight. Just think where we could be with a board with a bit of vision and ambition.
Again, nobody expects the club to bankrupt itself in the attempt, but we could and should be doing so much more.

07 Feb 2025 09:45:02
100% Chasaboy. There’s no doubt the board have done fantastically well bringing money into the club, but hoarding it for a raining day is of no use, for me the problem lies there’s no clear divide between the football department and the bean counters we have Lawell dictating the lot when he wasn’t ment to be here.

What gin ye in JFP? Thought ud be more of a El Dorado man.

14.) 07 Feb 2025
07 Feb 2025 10:48:12
What would I have done in January transfer window to be a better version of ourselves? Whit? Maybe bought a recognised striker since I’ve got £100m in the coffers rather than have a back up LB who’s refused to resign and is leaving in the summer and another who up to the other night had played half and hours football. Despite having European qualifiers to play and a game still to go this season. Some questions are too daft tae answer.

Regarding Gin? Never tasted it CB. If Coco the Clown calls you an idiot does it matter? More of a malt man but never on a school night.

15.) 07 Feb 2025
07 Feb 2025 11:17:29
Oh and I didn’t call the board dinosaurs because they won’t spend, spend, spend. It’s because they’re a bunch of old accountants in blazers who interfere and question the decisions of the football department. Or worse still, they do f all and are dictated to by certain individuals. Either way, they’re hardly progressive. As for spending money, we’ve barely spent a penny in the last five years, buys have been funded by sales. Also it’s not always about how much you spend, it’s about doing what’s needed when it’s needed. How many times have we had glaring deficits in the team but take 3 to 4 windows to sort, if at all.
We need fresh ideas at board level to progress, all we ever get is nepotism and cronyism.

Ed, their leagues are more competitive than ours is. I don't know what the answer is unfortunately - apart from possibly a breakaway super league for the so called big clubs, leaving the rest of us to be closer financially perhaps?

17.) 07 Feb 2025
07 Feb 2025 11:31:57
Bit harsh on kt we sold him for a tidy sum and it's our decision to want him back, he's not the first big name to leave and come back if fit he's a right good signing don't understand the vitriol towards him maybe it's trendy.

18.) 07 Feb 2025
07 Feb 2025 13:24:04
Being the best version of ourselves in Europe is a good way of putting it. I would like us to be competitive in Europe no matter the opposition, a lot of the time this will be by setting ourselves up totally differently from our domestic games. When we try to go toe to toe with Reals and Bayerns, certainly away from home it's a recipe for disaster. I can take losing to the super rich clubs but there is no excuse for being annihilated and embarrassed this has happened far too often in recent years. We have to stop being as naive and play smarter.

We didn't lose our best striker, not for the last 2 seasons we didn't.
This season going on goals per games, Khun is our best forward.
In fact since Kyogo signed he has been the top scorer in the league once but don't let the stats get in the way
Yes we failed to bring in another Striker but everyone was complaining when we got held to ransom in the summer with Idha when people were saying we spent to much on him but now people are complaining we didn't shell out £13m on a striker that has scored 30 goals in 88 games over 4 seasons.
As far as I see it, we have replaced a dud in Palma with Jota.
We lost a 30yr injury prone striker with a £9m striker with a talented youngster as back up.
If people calm down about Kyogo. They will see that Kyogo was never BR type of striker and Idha is as he likes a Big mobile forward with 2 fast wingers playing off him.

I just cannot understand how so many blame our Board for us not signing a striker in January . This view cannot be based on facts .
Board recently removed our Head or top recruiter . Tried an experience highly thought of expert in his place signed him up full time permanent and added one or two more recruiters to team .
Manager argued with Board all last summer that he wanted final say .
Publicly announced that from last summer on he had the final say in transfers .
Now how do we know that it’s board dinosaurs that are to blame for our not replacing our fading striker.

{Ed007's Note - It's not Rodgers negotiating transfers & signing the cheques. C'mon OMC, you're trolling/fishing is getting desperate now ?
