Random daft question but do footballers have pensions, now that every employer needs to offer a pension scheme? If they do would that have an impact on wage/ transfer negotiations when the club has to pay a % of the players wage into a pension scheme.

One of my mates I used to work with played for Arsenal as a schoolboy/ youth player (also played in the youth World Cup) but never made it as a full pro.

He got a letter out the blue a few years back telling him about a pension he had with the FA or PFA that he never knew he had. Was worth a few Bob. So I’d imagine if he got from being signed for a few years in the 80s/ 90s there’s something similar/ better still in place.
