It was 50 years ago today that Celtic suffered an incredible 4-1 defeat to Partick Thistle in the League Cup Final.
Thistle raced into a 4-0 half time lead and I remember my dad telling me the Celtic supporters still thought Celtic would stage a comeback and win the cup.
Dalglish scored a consolation for Celtic in a 4-1 defeat.
The Thistle players must've been partying for a couple of weeks because they lost to Aberdeen 8-3 the following week and then Celtic won 5-1 at Firhill, to make our cup final hammering more unreal.
Celtic never lost another domestic game for over 6 months until 7 in a row was secured.
Celtic also almost reached a 3rd European Cup Final in 6 years but lost the Semi Final on penalty kicks to Inter Milan.

Remember it well. In our deluded teenage over-confidence about Celtic in those heady days during 9-in-a-row and 2 EC finals we were convinced The Celts would turn it around in the second half; such was the ability and class of the team we had. However 'King' Kenny's goal was the only consolation - Meanwhile, taxi loads of blue-noses arrived at Hamden (when the gates were left open in every ground after an hour or so) , leaving their own game at HT to witness a team that could actually beat Celtic during big Jock's reign.

Celtic reached 14 League Cup Finals in a row in the 1960s and 70s.
On numerous occasions Celtic lost out on Trebles because we lost the League Cup finals in the 1970s.
Celtic lost the first of those 14 finals but then Celtic won 5 league cup finals in a row which helped win 2 Trebles.
But then Celtic only won 1 league cup final from 8 attempts and those defeats cost Celtic another 4 Trebles.
The only time Celtic won the league cup final in those 8 years, we won both cups but that was the year we lost 10 in a row.
It was mad to think Celtic reached 22 domestic cup finals from 23 attempts and we also won 9 leagues in a row but only managed 2 Trebles in that period of our history.
It makes our Quadruple Treble more remarkable.

Jic,
Ajax beat Inter Milan 2-0 in the Final in 1972.
Ajax also won the European Cup the year before and the year after, to win 3 European Cups in a row.
It would’ve been a strange final for Celtic if we beat Inter on penalties because the final was in Holland.
The venue was Feyenoord’s stadium in Rotterdam, who just happened to be Ajax fiercest rivals.

On the day of the Thistle Cup Final I remember being at Planet of the Apes. Being from Greenock just a normal day.

Asked a guy the score and I thought he got it wrong way round.
