Big Fraser waxing lyrical about lenny and how good a manager he is. also saying we could hold our own in epl and he's been impressed with our young players.

If we had the access to the funds the pub league recieves, with thefan base, stadia and facilities we have, there's no doubt in my mind we'd compete in the pub league👍.

I’ve no doubt that we could compete handsomely in the BREXT league but personally would be disgusted if we ever chose to play our football on foreign soil and soil doesn’t get any more foreign than English.

{Ed007's Note - I'm with you, JFP, I'd hate us to join the English league as it would be the ultimate whoring out of our Club for money. It's bad enough that people are happy enough to see us getting pumped in the CL simply because of the money involved.
The only way I would want us to leave the Scottish game is if we joined a European breakaway league and even then I'd still want us to keep some kind of team playing in the SPFL.}

Ed007 I couldn’t have expressed those sentiments any more eloquently myself 👍 Leave the English league to the English and let Celtic grow where we were planted.

{Ed007's Note - 👍

Said it many times I live an hour from Manchester/ Liverpool so great catchment area for me if we were in that league but it’s a no from me. Real fans would miss out those who trek all over Scotland week in week out would be priced out of going.

Sevco would be ideal for that Ed the old co could play spfl and the new co could play the European break away league 😂😂😂👏.

I disagree. If we're not going to be an independent country then let's join the countries into one football association. I'd love to see Celtic given a proper chance to compete once again. Instead of being looked upon as a team in a mickey mouse league (not my opinion btw) but living in England that's how they see us.

I agree HT - Celtic need to be all they can be and if that means joining associations then so be it. Why we should be content to be THE biggest fish in our small pond is baffling, especially since there is little competition there nowadays. What is wrong with trying to get as much money in for your product as you can? If we want to be the best then we have to compete with the best - on AND off the park. Ed - if we had the financial muscle we wouldn't be getting pumped in the CL - we would be competing on EVEN terms with the Barcelonas and PSGs of this world.

{Ed007's Note - If we joined the English league there wouldn't be any CL and if we ever do move to another association what's stopping the big teams in Germany and Spain pushing to join it as well because they want the money as well?
As soon as anything like that is approved from FIFA/UEFA then the big European breakaway - that we're not involved in - will happen almost immediately, taking the TV big money with them and we'll be left in England with the Pub League leftovers like Bournemouth, Leicester and Burnley - mouthwatering eh? Or would that be OK as long as we were getting more £ than now?
It's all speculation anyway as Celtic will NEVER join the English league or The FA.}

Where is this coming from? I live in the states so don't see a lot of the news from Scotland is a UK league being proposed? It would be a hard pass for me just another way to try and dilute the Scottish identity.

{Ed007's Note - No mate we're just having a blether about it.}

ED - not sure my crystal ball is as powerful as yours!
I take it when you mute a European breakaway League then it contains teams from ALL current Associations and not just the small ones with an Atlantic coastline? Otherwise, what is the difference in joining that over the EPL?
It is a sad fact of football these days but money generally equals success at the top level - the most successful teams in all associations are usually not the poor relations. To that end then why is making money such a dirty concept as long as it is invested back into the team?
It is not a new concept - the European league - it has been muted before and if it is going to happen then it is going to happen - regardless of what league we are in.
Are the three teams you mentioned above any less appealing than St Mirren, Ross County or Hearts three or four times a season?
I do agree that it is unlikely to happen though.

{Ed007's Note - Celtic currently aren't involved in the planned European breakaway - it's way beyond the concept stage and I've spoken about it for years on here - but I would be much happier joining any new (European) league system than go begging to the EPL. We'd be a laughing stock and can you imagine how the English fans & media would treat us? We'd be like a carrot headed stepchild.
Why would I want us to join a league that I constantly say is over-hyped garbage, where mediocre players get paid disgusting amounts of money, where the majority of fans are tourists and as plastic as the seats, why would anyone want to see their club become part of something like that?
We're a Scottish club and should play in Scotland until the footballing landscape changes, that change will never be us moving to the English League or FA.}

You’re spot on Ed and some things are more important in life than maximising your financial return. Celtic FC is a Scottish club and we play in Scotland. As for the ‘if we’re not going to be an independent country’ comment did I miss that ? They should be made BREXIT from European football when they BREXIT from Europe. No matter how bad it gets my season ticket isn’t up for grabs UNLESS we sell our soul to the devil and follow Brendan Rodgers to the EPL. They are well suited egotistical worshipers of the mighty dollar. This want to be little Englander stuff depresses me. Stay calm and rebuild Hadrians Wall as ma new t-shirt says!

You missed out two words ED - Tight and Perm - it is considered lucky to be a "Fanta pants" in Russia so go figure!
Agree about the fans - from certain clubs - not my experience in the North East though.
Scottish clubs need to get that revenue somehow - getting a fair deal from Sky etc would be a start - Scotland has about 10% of the population so should demand 10% of the money the EPL gets - it would be great if we could organise a boycott of their product until they increase their offer significantly.
Joining EPL is an option (thin one granted) but as you state there are more appealing avenues - but, whatever it is, it has to be inclusive for ALL teams, otherwise we sell our souls.

{Ed007's Note - A few years back I had a war with Sly and the girl let it slip that in Scotland there were "at least" 1 million Sly Sports subscribers in Scotland, even roughly at £25 a pop that's at least £25 million a month or £300 million a year from this country alone.
Now I know a lot of that is people paying for the Pub League, golf, WWE etc etc but the new SPFL deal is supposedly worth £160 million over 5 years (a rise of 20% on the current combined package) which works out as £32 million a year and that's easily smashed with just over one single month of subscriptions coming out of Scotland.
The plan seems to be that once the big boys bugger off and start their Super League - some clubs are pushing for 2022 but sometime around 2025/2027 is more likely just now - there will eventually be a 2nd division of it and that's where clubs like us and Ajax will be invited to join.}
