A few points on the potential signing of Simpson:

1. If this was a £8m 25 year old right back signing from France or Portugal who had been found guilty of what Simpson has done, there would be a lot less people saying he shouldn’t be anywhere near our club. People like to pick and choose when to take the moral high ground (the same people don’t seem to have a problem with Griffiths or Lennon)

2. The fact he is the same age as Lustig is irrelevant. Just because Lustig’s legs have gone doesn’t mean Simpson is the same. Every players condition is different at that age. Look at Dani Alves. 36 and still the best right back in the world

3. Just because we appeared to make big bids for Piccini and Castagne doesn’t mean that we have a £7m+ budget for a right back. We have a new manager now and he’ll have been given a budget to work with this summer, so has to spread this around the positions he thinks need filled. Lennon obviously wanted an experienced centre half from a good league and this costs a few bob. Maybe he thinks a solid right back that's available on the cheap is the best way to go, so that he can make the most of the rest he has to spend

4. Tactically Simpson doesn’t seem to fit the bill in terms of what we all thought we’d be after - an attacking right back. However, he’s an exceptional defender, and given our new left back appears to like to roam all over the place, having a right back who is bombing on may not the way to go. Lennon might want a right back who holds position so that we aren’t over exposed on the wings.

The game is full of players who have done wrong from cantona attacking a fan to grobbellar throwing games and then the Bevvy merchants you can't condone it but it's there and we all deserve a second chance.

To top of that lm67 I don't think he will be the only out and out right back we bring in if he does sign.
I think the other lad is to cover CB.

If Simpson is still as good, why didn’t Brendan keep him?

Even though I'm glad it's work being done at right back, I do believe this is a cheaper alternative and wouldn't say he's an "exceptional defender".

If he's that good then why did leicester let him leave? They don't exactly have one of the best right backs in the world.

We know Lennon is on a budget but we also know the amount of money we've raked in, especially from last summer. We might not be able to pay 7-8m on a top drawer right back after paying that amount already on a new centre half but I'm pretty sure there's far better options out there who wouldn't cost as much and would benefit us more than Simpson would going forward.

Putting aside the daft comments from Griffiths and whatever allegedly happened with Lennon (I will make no excuses for their behaviour here and I will base this on its own individual merits here) ; it sends out the wrong message.
I am still very confused to this concept as to why people think it’s ok for celebrities / footballers / musicians etc to walk back into a job making a very comfortable living for themselves after doing some pretty horrible things.
But that’s maybe that’s just me?
The thing that bugs me about Simpson was his attitude afterwards, reading reports, he basically appealed community service and then had the audacity to appeal his house arrest? Doesn’t exactly sound as if he was even slightly remorseful about the situation.
Footballing ability aside, and purely on a human level, I’d rather we perused someone else.
But each to their own. HH.

Naka that just historicity. Set aside Lennon and Griffiths behaviour but not Simpson's.

So people with high paying jobs should be punished more?

I said I’m taking this one it’s individual merits.
All are unsavoury for me either way.
But if it’s you or me that battered our missus about we would likely serve jail time, have a criminal record and our career prospects would diminish.
I think it says more about society than it does the individual however Kev
Simpson was hardly even punished and barely sounded like he gave a feck anyway!
If he signs then good luck to him, but like I said on a human level I’d rather avoided this one imo
If he smashes some people and not some birds that would maybe make it slightly better but we will just have to wait and see.

To say that Simpson shouldn't sign due to his past isn't hypocritical just because we've previously had staff on the books who have had violent and/ or criminal pasts.

I do not think any man who lifts his hands to a woman should be hired into a job where a his new employers will be held accountable for his actions.

I have read only a couple of articles which quote his charges, but if he is in a position in the future where he is violent at work and under Celtic's employment, while Celtic knew he had offended previously, the club would be in a position where they'd hold some liability for his actions.

There's no sign that he's completely rehabilitated and doing work for domestic abuse charities to try and make amends, so I don't think he's deserving of another club taking the same risk Leicester did.

I'll be appalled if Celtic do sign him, especially in the current environment.

Duff av been going for over 40 years and if you've not heard language questioning a player or teams religion or maybe the English teams we've faced in Europe being abused you must have ear muffs on. agree in spl terms apart from sevco parkhead is generally bigot free zone tho in terms of singing and shouts.
