It's a sign of how football has changed in the last few years, that in 2001 we went and took Leicester Cities manager in Martin O'Neil and then their best player in Lennon, and it was seen as a step up for both of them. We could pay better wages and offer a greater platform for success.
Now it's the opposite. Some folk say the money in that League is a bubble which will soon burst but I'm not sure it will to the extent we are able to compete financially again.
Does anyone know what we actually plan to do with the 40 million we have in the bank? Is it for the hotel etc, or as I hope, for a massive player shopping spree when we clear out the deadwood in the squad. We can dream.

Or a big room full of gold coins that he swims in like Scrooge McDuck!

A large chunk of that money will be used to cover our expenses from now until end of season.

Ive noticed that we could potentially end up with 12 points in this group and still fail to qualify. Does anyone know if this has ever happened before? O'Neills teams got 9 points twice and never qualified, which is rare. Strachan did it once with 8 points I'm sure. But to get more than 10 and not go through can't have happened often.

I wonder if the Chinese club Rodgers rejected is the same one that was trying to buy Morelos for a Billion in Jan.
Or is "Chinese club" just a modern football term for "This didn't really happen".
Why is this being made public at this particular time?

He is trying to say he is committed to us. Because the media are all saying he is for the off. So he came out and said if wanted out he could have gone.

2.) 27 Sep 2018 08:12:02
Thought we battered them second half. Their goalie made at least 3 great saves.

Thought we were in for a what's the goalie Doing moment at the end. Bain got lucky when he came flying out.

3.) 27 Sep 2018 14:53:42
I could swear that some posters here, condemn Gordon for not coming out .

4.) 27 Sep 2018 22:45:40
Chris we want a keeper to come out and make sure he at least challenges for the ball, bain got caught in 2 minds. Concentration is a major attribute for a keeper, aye he had hee haw to do for most of the game but that was a moment of madness.

5.) 28 Sep 2018 13:12:26
Maybe Sstepbhoy2 you now understand that the Celtic defensive tactics is depending on the defenders taking care of the ball. Our tactics involve goalkeeper not having. a moment of madness and charging out blindly for ball and distracting defenders . This tactic is common wit some successful teams and other successful teams leave ball for keeper . What u can't do is have both defenders and keeper going for the one ball.
Commons does what he is coached to do.

So I wonder if porto fans are saying they should be embarrassed about taking a hiding in Europe, and that they aren't really a CL club and shouldn't even bother. Probably not.

isleogreen

1.) 15 Feb 2018 08:27:18
Of course it's embarrassing to take a hiding no matter who you are or who against.

2.) 15 Feb 2018 09:38:33
Porto fans will probably be doing what we did. Identify where they are needing to improve to reduce the chances of getting horsed and get players in to help with that.

Maybe they will do something about it, unlike us who operate on hope and a few hail mary’s.

As teams get better across Europe it very well be the case that them and us won’t be considered CL teams even by our respective boards anymore.

Tonight will tell us all we need to know if we have any right to talk about ourselves in CL terms.

I’m actually quite calm today, as my expectation levels suffered a blow after the window, so I’m not expecting much. I still have the feeling if we play the way we can we can get a result, but playing like we can has been a fleeting thing all this season. Zenit are better than Anderlecht imo so it’s going to be a night not suited to a rabbits in headlights approach as we saw against Anderlecht and PSG.

I thought it would be a tall order even if we did bring in a few first team defenders and a good keeper. We did none of that so it’s an even bigger ask with our injuries and our key players not delivering so far. This game could be a turning point. Win and we pick up a charge to the end of the season. Get embarrassed and the confidence could fall further. Time for the players to step up and play like men. Not overawed weans too feart to play their game. Let’s hope they do. I actually think they will step up, but don’t listen to me, I would have lost my house on the window purchases. not that anybody listens to me, but you know what I mean, my vibe has been wide of the mark and I could be wrong about them stepping up too.

3.1 to us if we step up

2.0 to them if we don’t.

Seen in an article today that the value of the club has rocketed by 50M in the last six months. 173M it is valued at now, over 100M more than two years ago. It's more than the rest of the country combined and is only going to increase. What will it be once the hotel, Celtic Way etc are finished. It could double again.

Much of this is down to Rodgers, he is paid a lot but it seems like pennies for what it has brought us.

And they think that "catching us" is just around the corner, a few good signings away. It's like us trying to catch Barcelona, and turning on every manager who fails. We're over the horizon for good now I think.

@Isleofgreen to be fair and balanced, I heard pedro has managed to add 50PENCE on to their value lol.

2.) 08 Sep 2017 18:53:56
Did he leave it as a tip after his world class breakfast Tim? To be fair that's 50% of what the club was bought for so it is an achievment.

3.) 08 Sep 2017 20:43:10
According to a report today, they tried to sign McCormack from Villa on deadline day (the same report says he's on £45K a week at the moment. ) but it went on to say that if they had signed him, they would be well in with a chance of winning the league! Even more laughably, they said the "deal" could be resurrected in January and that that could still make the difference. Jeeeeeezzzzzzuuuuuuzzzzz!

4.) 09 Sep 2017 12:17:39
That's never going to happen. He's Pish.

Ralston and juranovic both got plenty of minutes each this season, having similar options on the left is one of the priorities of the summer window clearly. Taylor has improved a lot this season and I'm sure he'll be in the managers plans.
I didn't realise he's still only 24, lots of room to improve further.

I think it's a good decision and I'm glad he will likely finish his career with us now. A one club man.
I think it will be on reduced terms as it's a three year deal for a thirty year old, and I don't think he will be an automatic start anymore. However his vast experience, and he still has quality, will mean he will be an important squad player.
Ange obviously still wants him around, and don't forget he's been injured this season a fair bit, I think a fit Forrest is still an asset.

It looks like a back three with Frimpong and Boli as wing backs.
Forrest playing off Edouard?

Unknown territory for most of us I'm sure, being able to sit back, relax and see what the youngsters can do in the final game.
Cluj very much need the result so it will still be a real test for these players. Griff and Bayo hopefully looking sharp and we're back to three fit strikers, which is the best news of all I think after seeing what happened on Sunday basically without one.

Ideguchi hasn't made the impact of his countrymen just yet but then he picked up an injury early, maybe next season he will shine.

I've tried that Stubbsie and to be fair it was nicer than it sounds, but I'll stick with a whisky mac.
As for voddy bovril. well I can only imagine it hits the spot on a cold February afternoon.

Didn't Jullien not score a few from corners before his injury. I'm looking forward to his return for a number of reasons.

Keep Eddie and sign the tea lady as backup would be preferable to losing him.
