Ed. Heard a wee rumour that we are looking to sign Sebastien Coates and Jermaine Defoe. Is there substance to this, or is it a load of Rafael?

Samson81

1.) No chance , one is off to QPR and the other Sunderland

2.) Toronto want 7 million for defoe

3.) Worse rumour ever man Defoe is over 24 no sell on value so rule that right out and Coates would have been believable for a loan deal if Celtic had qualified for champions league

Ed

A mate of mine from London Town, who has a season ticket at Palace, says that written into the deal with Celtic, is that:-

1) If Palace stay up, we get an extra £2.5M

AND

2) If Palace go down, we have first option on him, for the price that they paid in January

Anybody else heard anything about this?

Samson81

1.) Would we want Ledley back? He wanted to leave a CL team, to play in the relegation fight in the PL. Well Joe, hope you will enjoy watching us in the CL while your happy being in a mid-table English championship team.

2.) Joe Ledley is of premier league quality IMO so based on that I would say any player with that quality would be welcomed back. Champions league is certainly a big thing to be involved in but the day to day vigours of playing in the Scottish league isn't as prestigious as the English so you can't blame Ledley Hooper Wanyama for wanting a shot at it and I think most would welcome any of those players back at Celtic if such a deal was brokered for any one of them.

3.) @jollygreengiant how do u know he wanted to leave for crystal palace? Has he said anything to that affect?

Contract dispute with board, was length on offer. He wanted to stay till end of 2014/15 season, but board wanted him to sign a longer term contract.

Crystal Palace were the only team in for him, we were going to lose him in summer for nothing so I can see why he was sold in january.

You are quick to jump the gun and overlook a major factor in this situation- he could of rejected crystal palace, left for nothing at end of season to whatever team. At least we got a fee for him.

Anyway I don't fault the bhoy for having ambitions and not wanting to sign the longer terms contract. Scottish football is getting worse. You mentioned championship, reality is that league is a far superior league

4.) DN30
You beat your own argument.
If he didn't want to go to Palace then he wouldn't have went. You're right, he could have stayed and went for nothing in the summer but he chose to go in January. And he went to Palace because he wanted to.
Think about what you're posting before making a tool of yourself! lol lol

Hail Hail

5.) @chrisbhoy he did not have a choice. Was told when he reported for training that bid was accepted. Actually respect the bhoy was going in january and ensuring celtic got a fee, when i'm sure in the summer he could of went to teams on a par with say everton.

Think about what i'm posting? Bit rich coming from you judging by the pish you post f*d

6.) 16 Mar 2014 00:05:29
Heard it was more is wife being home sick than him wanting to leave, great player in my eyes.Celtic should have paid for these type of players not to leave!

7.) Ed don't usually comment on these kind of rumours but there is a clause on ledleys contract that if they stay up celtic will get 1.5 m! I heard that from frank mcavennie I have played in a good few charity matches with him as he is my best mates friend he didn't say anything about the buy back part though don't really see him coming back anyway do you?

8.) Why leave to come back 6 month later? He ain't coming back ever!

9.) DN30
What do you mean he didn't have a choice? Of course he had a choice. He was offered a new contract and he said no. The offer was only accepted because he chose not to sign it. If Ledley had signed then no offer would have been accepted in the first place. Can you not compute that logic in your brain?

Hail Hail

10.) @chrisbhoy 10/10 for stating the obvious! You have just agreed with what I said in original post, regards contract. Thought I had already covered fact he was offered contract and chose not to sign it?

He was told with regards to crystal palace bid, club would rather he left january rather than summer.

How do you know no offer would of been accepted if he signed a new contract? Has this never happened at any club before, where a player signs a new contract and shortly later a bid is accepted? Every player has a price, are you really that thick you can't understand that?

11.) Chrisbhoy are you not the one who sticks up for sammi all the time he's done the opposite of Ledley

12.) Hoopybhoy, no you've got the wrong person. I am not Sammy's biggest fan. What has that got to do with this thread anyway? Run along, there's a good boy.
DN30, there's no point trying to reason with you because you clearly don't have the required intelligence but I shall continue to point out your mistakes and stupidity as I see it as a great source of amusement. It sure is fun to see someone make a clown of themselves and no-one does it better than you lol
How's the Sevco page, by the way? Are you still a frequent visitor? You know, like the time you commented that if I wanted to ask Ed a question about them I should go onto their site? And guess who was found playing with the enemy just a couple of hours later? Yip that's right. YOU! lol lol
I'm sure if I were to have a look on their site I'd find posts from you as usual. You just can't stay away from them, can you? lol

Hail Hail

13.) @chrisbhoy you are clearly not the sharpest tool in the shed. You do not have a clue what you are talking about, that's why you can't back your statement up and are changing the subject.

So what if I have posted on their page? I think you will find anytime I have done that, it is in retaliation to @johncass trying to wind people up on this page. I don't post anything about that mob on this page unlike the obsession YOU have. Sevco this, sevco that is all we hear from @chrisbhoy. Oh sorry! Sammi as well (dont know what drill is there, bit weird).

You have nothing constructive to say and it seems to be a regular occurrence you getting shot down in flames. I look forward to many laughs to come at your ridiculous statements.

14.) Chrisbhoy, u don't make any sense, like most of yer posts. Mind boggling gash

Whats the relevance to thread if someone posts on sevco? At least its on their page and we are not subjected to gash u post aboot them on this! Dn30, I would of dun the same.

15.) Hee hee hee
DN30, winding you up is like shooting fish in a barrel. I didn't think it would be so easy lol
Chill out, have a break from your stress and go hang out with them over on your favourite page! lol

Hail Hail

16.) KP1888
I'm entitled to my opinion and I don't need your permission to give it so wind yer neck in chum!

Hail Hail

17.) @chrisbhoy explain how u are winding me up? Since when did providing a response become "winding up"? If anyone is wound up, its you. Your trying to save face, but making an a*se of it

18.) Chrisbhoy

Aye, aye princess. It looks like its you who's getting wound up.

19.) DN30
You stated Ledley had no choice. I said he had. He could have signed the contract and then there wouldn't have been a transfer as the club made it clear they wanted him to stay. They weren't planning on getting him to sign a contract and then sell him. That may have happened to other players at other clubs in the past but Lennon wanted him to stay. That has been my point all along so what part of that simple logic can't you understand?

Hail Hail
Hail Hail

20.) Chrisbhoy you have clearly misread my post. Fairly straight forward that a contract is a choice, however if you took time to read post you would of realised the choice I was talking about was leaving in january and not the summer. This was due to pressure put on him as club didn't want to not get any fee for him.

I never said once that was the plan to get him to sign a contract then sell him. YOU said if ledley had signed contract, no bid would of been accepted and I replied by asking how do you know that no bid would of been accepted? Basically you were ridiculously implying that just because in the case he did sign, other clubs would be put off bidding which is total nonsense. Happens all the time in football.

I can't understand what you say, cause there is no logic to what your saying

21.) I give up trying to make sense of your nonsense.
For the last time.
You said he didn't have a choice and he was told a bid had been accepted and he had to go.
I said he DID have a choice.
He could have CHOSEN to sign a contract and stay.
He CHOSE not to sign a contract.
He CHOSE to go to Palace.
He CHOSE to accept their offer.
Palace might not have been his preference but he CHOSE to go anyway.
In summary, he REJECTED our offer and CHOSE to go even after Celtic made it clear to him, the fans and the footballing world that they wanted him to stay.
And you maintain in your earlier post that he didn't have a choice?

End of. Your bollox is not worth another reply.

Hail Hail

22.) Chrisbhoy you have got to be taking the p*ss. Surely nobody can be that dense!

You have just confirmed everything I said regards contract. You really are a clown

Still no answer to questions put to you.

Absolute and utter bull per usual from you

23.) The two of you are embarrassing to most of us by carrying on like this. I thought the celtic family prided it's self on being exactly that and for having more class than you know who.

24.) @wtbhoy see if you don't like debates, stay off site. that's the purpose of this site, to discuss matters relating to celtic and not everyone is going to agree on what's being said.

Here we go with celtic family p*sh.Love how so called super supporters like you bring this up whenever they don't agree with what's being said. Its fans like you who are running this club into ground and are happy to potter along with a sub-standard team in a poor league.

The only embarrassment "to the celtic family" is you. Now jog on

25.) DN30, I've told you before, control our temper! lol
wtbhoy has a valid point (although I know he was directing it mostly at you!)lol lol

26.) Chrisbhoy, if he doesn't like what being said he should stay out of it. End of the day you have your opinion, I have mine. Its the purpose of this page to discuss celtic related matters.

Trabzonspor and Besiktas looking to sign Samaras before Turkish transfer window closes tonight

Samson81

1.) Samson, I hope this is true, he must see that he needs to playing regularly before the World Cup and he is not going to get that now at Celtic Park. I hope he does not sign a new contract though, think it is best for him and us if he goes now. Hail Hail

2.) I hope he does the decent thing and moves if this is true? I will not be a hypocrite and say great things about him as I wasn't a fan. I think he under-performed far too often and the rare great games he had, should have been reproduced far more often.

JJ

Here is one, and shoot me down if you don't think it would work

Brown is suspended on Wednesday, so why not play Virgil in Midfield. Guy can defend and attack, and loves a saunter up the park. Great at passing.

Only downfall to this would be playing Efe at Centre Half

Samson81

1.) 08 Apr 2015 05:22:58
I have thought before to myself that Virgil would be very good in midfield I don't think it would be best to try it just now if we had more cover at the back maybe but until then I think its best he play's centre back.

2.) 08 Apr 2015 09:09:39
I don't think it is a silly suggestion as VVD is capable of playing there. I wouldn't play him there as we are very short at the back just now and we have loads of midfielders.

With Matthews not being able to finish a game Efe will probably be required to fill in there sometime during the second half.

Evening all.

Been having a debate in pub and work as to who has been our best BIG man up front.

Mark Viduka
Chris Sutton
John Hartson

Who would you choose and why?

Samson81

1.) 18 Dec 2014 18:11:06
On talent it would be viduka every time but on attitude and teamwork it would be sutton

2.) 18 Dec 2014 18:27:13
Overall I would say Sutton as I thought he brought more to the team. He has a great partnership with Larsson, brilliant in the air, great will to win and great at tenderising defences for us. Not only that he was a good goal scorer and always worked hard for the team.

Hartson was possibly a better striker than Sutton but he had fitness issues and too often he would contribute nothing to the team other than when he scored.

Viduka was probably the most skillful of the three but his attitude stunk.

3.) Nice one. I preferred Viduka as a player but as he wasn't with us very long I'd say Hartson for me. That goal against Liverpool was one of the best moments of my life. Sutton was a class act too mind.

4.) Big bad john every day of the week. Sutton on his day was unplayable but when things were'nt going his way he'd start moanin like a big jessie. Hartson just got on with it. And was more prolific. don't get me started on marko!

5.) Big Sutty all day. Vidukas heart was never at Celtic, we were just the nearest lily pad to the English pond, so he's a non starter. Hartson was a great player with a tremendous work ethic and he played for the team every time, love the big welsh dragon, but injuries restricted his career a wee bit too much. Sutton was a real tough *******. Could dish out with the very best, and when they gave it back it fired him right up. A very clever player, selfless work for the strike partner he played with, Shearer acknowledges as much and king Henke loved playing with Sutton as his foil. Suttons awareness and movement makes him my choice

6.) Sutton for sure. Viduka had plenty of talent but he was a mercenary and spat the dummy out to get away. Not a team player. Sutton worked hard off the ball as well.

7.) Harts on and viduka both had the talent to be the best but wasted a lot if it. Sutton for me, remember Henrick had him down as the best striker he played with. (Not Etu or Roony) also this was a guy who was such an all rounder that when we were short if center halfs for a game against rangers, he Mon played him there and he got man of the match. Mon also often played him center mid so he could fit all three in Hartson, Sutton, Larson. So a way more professional and complete player in my opinion. Markie

8.) First post although been reading for 5 years+. I'd have liked to have seen big Jan added to this list, He certainly made a good contribution in his 3 seasons at CP & scored important goals at Tannadice & the winner against the other lot. Stats will show Hartson scored more goals than Sutton but Sutton's overall game was better especially with the amount off assists for Larsson over his 6 seasons. Hartson was just unlucky that Sutton and Larsson were the perfect partnership but he did still have a great career at Celtic and is a top player. Like Sutton a Legend. Keep up the good work with the site & Merry Xmas to you all. JCGE

9.) Forgot to add. Sutton's header at Ajax for me is what his play was all about, 3 passes in the build up play before scoring an incredible header. His hold up play & movement for this goal was typical Sutton. Class act.

Been reading posts saying Deila must go if we lose. He won't go, Lawell won't sack him. If sacking gaffers after losing in cup games was the done thing Lennon would have been out years ago

Samson81

1.) Lennon didn't get knocked out the UCL twice in a season. Lennon didn't have a 35% win rate after 14 games.

If we go out the League Cup tonight, I know PL won't sack RD as it lays part of the blame wi him. He'll hold out for RD to leave n blame himself.

But, realistically he should be out a job! Five wins out of 15 games would be up there wi the worst Celtic manager win percentages of all time.

It would be on par wi Lou Macari; n worse than Mowbray, Dalglish n even Barnes who were all up against our now defunct City rivals!

2.) Crucially people on this have overlooked the fact the fact that when Delia took over the reigns, he inherited a squad that was poor last season minus a few faces such as samaras (should of been replaced immediately).

He deserves untill december, its not his fault PL is being prudent with transfer fees after duds like pukki, boerighter and balde last season

3.) It's not about just losing cup a game;
He has failed to qualify for The CL TWICE in a month and has only won half of our league games so far.
The settling in period is well and truly over and the team are well below par in form and progress of momentum.

The players are under performing either through lack of fitness or confidence and are clearly not responding to his methods/tactics.
The chopping and changing does not help and it seems he does not know his best team or formation - and he has plenty Internationals to choose.

4.) @DN " a team that was poor last season". Is that the same team that went on the unbeaten run and only lost 1 game? Is that the same team that got to the CL? Is that the same team that got the british shut out record.Mate I not saying that team was great far from it BUT it beat the teams it needed to to get the job done. Yes we struggled against the elite of Europe last season, that's because it was the elite. Look what we been up against this season, absolutely nothing. If we can't beat the dross we been up against what chance have we got?

5.) @rayman aye they were poor! Scraped by a good amount of games and to keep in with your CL, an absymal campaign.

Pull yer heid oot yer ar$e and look at reality of situation

6.) @DN, get real you are cherry picking games. Look at the overall picture. Lennon delivered, maybe not the cups but they don't bring in the money or prestige. Like it or lump it its all about the CL now.Bread and butter of the league he beat week in week out. RD cannot even do that with tried and tested players along with NEW tried and tested Internationals.

7.) DN30 = fed up hearing about this unbeaten run, wouldn't have happened had VVD not saved the numerours errors made by Efe and also Forster for keeping them out.

The defence last year was not great, much the same this year although injuries have not helped

8.) Sorry DN30 meant to say, I agree with you and that am fed up hearing about the unbeaten run.

9.) @rayman i'm not cherry picking games, i'm talking about tenure in general.

Any REAL standard of competition we came up againist last season (embarrasing classing aberdeen as that) we crumbled so how can anyone possibly suggest that squad last season was anything special?

I would absolutely love to hear your words of wisdom if it was lennon who was still in charge and had same start to season as Delia.

10.) Kev T, its cool mate knew what you meant lol

Alot of people on this need to remember, any team of any decent standard we leaked goals last season. Clean sheet record is a lot of pi$h, a distraction as to how bad squad was last season.

11.) @DN no one said the team last year was anything special. It was just a lot better than it is just now. @Kev you made me laff mate about VVD saving Efe is that not his job, is it not FF job to save shots. Its called good defending. That's why the team went on unbeaten run.If you want to see poor defending just watch any of our games this season even tonight at times, or Manchester United this season. Good defences don't leak goals, bad 1s do.

12.) @rayman then why are you trying to argue black is white? Point I've been making for weeks now

13.) Simple question then DN, in your opinion which team is better? last season or this season.

14.) At what point are we talking rayman? The run of games with an absurd drop in quality from last season (including injuries) from when RD took over or the point of the other nights game at hearts?

15.) Simple question, evaded as usual by you. 15 games in last season to 15 games in this season, who is the better team?

16.) Evaded? Perhaps try to clarify question so I can give you an accurate answer! At game 1 I would of said last seasons team was better. At game 15 (after making majority of signings midway) I would say this seasons is better.

Absolutely pointless question as per usual. stating the obvious

17.) You think we are better now than last season at this point lol. now I know your just takin the pee. CL to no CL. Top of the league to midtable. Scorin plenty of goals to struggling to score from open play. Solid defendin to leakin goals.Havin our best team out wk in wk out to manager doesn't know what his best team is aswell as lookin unbalanced and disjointed.I think your in a minority of 1 there lol.

18.) So are you saying we are not stronger attacking and defensively at cb? key players such as brown coming back from injury will make team stronger.at your point 15. What planet do you hail from?

27 Jul 2014 10:54:13
A wee question to everybody, Ed's included. What would you take this season:-

A - The treble, no champions league

B - League, Scottish Cup, and same group stage showing as last year

or

C - League, League Cup, and last 16 of Europa League

Samson81

{Ed007's Note - There's been a poll running for a while about that, Samson, you can vote on it here.

13 Jul 2014 19:01:03
With Ambrose just coming back from the world cup, do you think Ronny Deila will start him, or go with O'Connell to start on Tuesday?

Samson81

1.) My defence on Tuesday would be Forster between the sticks, Lustig on the right, Izzy on the left then van Dijk and Mulgrew at CB.

{Ed007's Note - I'd have to go with that as well, playing Ambrose would be a bit of a risk.}

2.) Aye I know mate, and we all know to well how Lennon's risk to rush him back after the AFCON paid off - a horror show against Juventus in the UCL Last 16 first leg that effectively buried our chances of progression after just 3 mins!

3.) 14 Jul 2014 14:05:34
I'd go with Matthews Lustig VVD Izza. I recall Lustig being CB for qualifiers last year or at least the Karagandy game and he was outstanding

4.) 14 Jul 2014 15:44:52
I'd go with Lustig there all season scotspur

Why Negri hated Amoruso??

Coz big Lorenzo found out that Negri was dipping his bird, and Sergio porrini knocked 7 shades out of him.

or

The Succulent Lamb brigade printed, as told by David Murray, just before their main course

Porrini and Negri were playing squash, and the daft wee baw hit marco on the eye. that's why he's out for 6 months

I can't stand people that have grudges and refuse to call people by their proper name. Why call him lie-well???

I would never have Lennon back. Didn't enjoy his style of football, and he never seemed totake responsibility for defeats. Aye, we beat Barca and it was the greatest night of HIS life. HIS team beat Barca,. yet defeats against Ross County, Morton, Aberdeen etc in the cups, he wasnt one for taking the criticism.

I am prepared to give Deila a chance. We are only in october and a few points behind with a game in hand. Once he has the team HE wants, playing the fotball HE wants, then we can judge

Commons' contract does indeed expire this summer, but Lennon has stated that the club has a 1 year option to extend, which the club will invoke
