With commons being linked with Leicster next season anyone think he'd be tempted with one last big pay day and how much would we get if he went?

ReeceyBhoy7

1.) Commons is good for celtic in the sfl but could you see him playing in epl with his current level of fitness?

2.) Commons have no intention of going to anywhere . He and his wife are both very happy and are involved in welcoming every foreign player and their wives or girlfriends to Celtic

{Ed007's Note - We wouldn't get any fee for Commons, his deal is up in the summer and CFC have only offered a one year extension so far. There are murmurings that the reason he hasn't signed yet is he isn't too happy about it being only for a year and is looking for the security a longer deal brings. The Leicester story came from someone close to his situation and will probably be used as a bargaining tool by his agent, never say never in football.}

3.) I wouldn't mind if commons left. Not that I don't like him, just I feel that our number 10 should be a creator, not someone who is always looking to score. Commons goals are great in the spl but he doesn't suit most formations that aren't based around him and this becomes and issue in europe. Our strikers should be getting the goals he does, tbh, rendering him relatively needless. I would much prefer Ki than commons

4.) Edin he certainly didn't cut the mustard in Europe. After the first two group games I was having a convo with a mate and we couldn't decide if he should have been dropped (and perhaps change systems), or, as one of our most effective and important players, should continue his role in a 4231/451. Bit of a conundrum. Are we brave/naive enough to play a 442 diamond in Europe? Do we have the quality? End of the day, a player should be brought in for that area of the park regardless of Commons staying or not; if he does leave then obviously two in. This way, we can change personnel/systems much easier.

5.) If he did leave I would hope we went for a more creative attacking midfielder with vision for a pass to cut open opposition defence's for me commons doesn't do that enough and tries to shoot too often perhaps rogic could even fit the role better

6.) I can't believe what I'm reading! Our fans are never happy! So u lot have no problem if out top scorer and one of our best players leaves for nothing? Wow! The full team could barely put the ball in the net in the cl so why don't we just let them all go? We need a CAM to set up more goals rather than score the goals? Absolutely ridiculous!

7.) Commons is one of our most skilful players and although he can be inconsistent and ineffective in some games; his goals have been very important this season.
I agree, we really need more creativity, pace and flair in the team and obviously more class if we are to improve in Europe.
The current team has very, very few players that we would really miss, as long as better quality replacements were brought in.
We must not replace anyone with the mediocrity of past seasons or we will continue to deteriorate in the CL.

JJ

8.) Commons has had an ok season I wouldn't say he's our best player or our most skilful I wouldn't lose any sleep if he went I think some fans have blinkers on cause he's our top scorer this year I've a bit of a bias towards him for his comments about ambrose after the juve game am sorry if that sounds petty but I've always been told you win as a team and lose as a team I have no time for people like commons who seem like they are only in it for personal accolades I may be wrong about him in the last sentence but I will never look past the comments about ambrose how did the rest of you feel with that what's your thoughts on it ed

9.) Not saying I am unhappy with him, I think he has been great but we can't improve much further with him as the focal point of our team. he isn't very flexible as a player and dsnt bring the best out of others, only himself. But tbf he would be low down on my list of people who need moved on. I think a centre half and striker are of greater concern, hopefully both will come from youth player, eg fraser/watt/atajic.

Hearing that we are putting the finishing touches to a bid of 2million for alexander buttner from man utd.

ReeceyBhoy7

1.) Would love this to be true, think izzy and him would push each other to another level. I do think there is a chance this could happen though maybe not to the summer. Don't think he's on the wages some people imagine at united.

2.) Buttner is on 15k per week at United

Thommobhoy

3.) Hopefully mate, If Griffiths is our 'marquee' signing I will be raging! where has this 6m for 1 player gone? PL needs to reward NL and us fans by splashing the cash, maybe in the summer now but better late than never. Unlike the zombies - NL may do walking away!

HH

4.) Only a rumour just Thought I'd share but I doubt this myself lennon denyed he'd sell izzy to everton as cover for oveido and has been impressed by izzy this season!

5.) Buttner isn't worth £2 mill what I've seen of him . Looks a very ordinary player . Another one of these highly paid no users covered in tattoos and a peaky blinders haircut . DH

6.) Y spend 2mil and cover, let's give chalmers a wee chance and wait till the summer 4 a left bak, don't need 1 that bad

7.) I'd like to think that we could sign buttner people on this are quick to say he's not good enough etc we need two good players for each position. Izzy blows hot and cold would be good to give him some competition. on another note what's the point in us signing any players as Lennon sticks with his Tried and tested lieutenants. How do we know if balde, pukki etc have a future he has giving balde about 5 x 10 min sub appearances and to show what he can do let him start!

8.) Feart me, people saying Buttner's not good enough but defending Leigh Griffiths lol.

9.) 29 Jan 2014 07:09:19
Never mind alex buttner from man u - why not look a bit closer to home? I've said this before but Andrew Robertson from dundee united is a player! wouldn't cost nearly as much as buttner and is a good young prospect - scored a few goals this season too and is a die hard celtic fan so would play for the club, give 100% each game and knows playing for the club is an honour as opposed to anything else.

10.) We let Robertson go on a free a few years back because he wasn't big enough

11.) @9 no name poster. Robertson was released by Celtic a couple of seasons ago.Now I believe there is interest in him from the Premiership and the Championship in England.Possibly another one who got away who was never given a chance to develop at Celtic.

12.) I watch Man Utd every time they are on sky! I have not seen enough of buttner to say if he is good or bud but obviously if the Man Utd scouts identified him as a long term replacement for evra then he must be ok! Personally I don't rate izzy and would rather see mulgrew play there every week . Buttner would bring vast experience ( training with better class players week in week out) in my op. and at 2 mill would not be as much a gamble as an spl player trying to make the step up?

13.) Buttner coming in as competition would be great. But how can people not rate Izzy. He's one part of this defence which is on a great run and he's constantly one of our best attacking players the other end too.

Been sitting speaking to a family friend about celtic for the last hour and he seems to think the board are dragging there heels over the new manager because they want a 'yes man', and that who we are signing and who's going this summers already planned. If this was the case and I wasn't a celt through and through it certainly wouldn't be a job I'd like to walk into.

Hail Hail

ReeceyBhoy7

1.) Your friend has an opinion. Doesn't mean it's 100% right or even 1% right. I have a friend who believes that UFO's are at his house every night. Doesn't mean he's right either.

2.) Just some ones thoughts mate nothing else.

With Lennon now left I think its time for someone with a wee bit of experience to come in don't think the times right for the king to come back maybe in a few years but on my shortilist there would certainly be steve clarke & malkay mackay what the thoughts?.

I've been bored all night and sitting think what goes through NL's head before a campaign starts I mean he buys a big target man in balde never starts the boy and plays a diamond which restricts wide areas/ balls in the box, if we're going to play a diamond we should but sutable players for it!, I would like to see us go for the attacking mod that I'm always on about maybe aaron hunt from werder bremen and a striker with a big of quality, still maybe finnboagson ( should push the boat out and get the boy!) And also another striker to partner him! Not sure who with that one. ED or anyone have any thoughts/rumours about who we'll go for?

ReeceyBhoy7

1.) I wonder what goes through some people's minds before they post . Someone who has won three SPLs in a row, yet still he is treated by a few as if he hadn't a notion .

2.) I like NL and I think he knows his stuff but I just feel there has been a lot of signings that have done nothing for the club we should be signing quality not quantity

3.) Chris that post makes no sense lol a monkey could a won the league this season and last season with no competition. your saying he's won 3 spl's in a row and should credit that's fair enough but then what about his abysmal domestic cup record includin getting beat at home 2 morton who takes the blame for that? who takes the blame for the predictable play style we have? what about the favourtism towards players? what about no youth being brought through apart from henderson for a few games and fisher? what about the clear tactical naivety? what about dud signings and signings getting hardly any game time

4.) To the best of my knowledge it happens at every club . Look at Chelsea they gave £50m or more for Torres . Liverpool £32m for Carroll . Clubs buy players regularly who cannot make it at their new club . More important to look at the very many excellent players Lennon and his scouts have unearthed. Those players are the players who win the trophies for you.

{Ed007's Note - Chelsea didn't give anyone £50m or more for Torres and Carroll never cost £32m, he cost £35m and Liverpool didn't pay that either.
What trophies did Bangura win for us, Pukki or Balde, Lassad and Miku etc etc.}

5.) Gunnie boy., your post makes no sense whatsoever . Are you a Lennon hater or a Celtic hater? No manager has been threatened and abused anything like Lennon. The performance last season in the Champions League for one of the best ever from as poor a league as the SPL . He took Celtic over when it was a shambles, poor team, rising debt . Now a good team and money available for a rainy day . There is nobody so blind as the man who doesn't want to see.

6.) I have to agree with gunniebhoy, Lennon is tactically inept, Barca was was a great result then we have this season, ac and Ajax were there for the taking and we blew it, got gubbed By Barca, lost to the almighty Morton, dumped out by Aberdeen, plays a diamond whe. We have wingers, for ages played a useless Sammy who is running his contact down, played florist in a diamond which is stupid, buys a target man doesn't use him, sells wanyama, Hooper, and doesn't replace with equal or better quality, as for the winning three leagus in a row, that like me saying yea I won the Thai fights in a row but was against the 10 year olds

7.) @Chris typical comeback mate anyone who has any criticism is instantly a celtic or lennon hater lol. I'v never rated him as a manager am going 2 hide that just cause he's won 3 spl's in a row its clear 2 see at times he's no got a clue

8.) @gunniebhoy I agree mate. Would be interesting to see how this group of fans would react if it was mowbray in charge and he won 3 in a row with an abysmal cup record. This group would be calling for his head. Good old lennon blinkers, clouding some peoples judgement due to emotional attachment

9.) It's disappointing to know that Celtic is the only club to buy players who turn out to be of little value . I could have sworn other clubs did the same . The editor proved me wrong about Torres and Carroll, but most reasonable football fans would get my drift that both were much bigger wastes of money ( ten times and more ) than any buys from Lennon . I think anyone other than some one who doesn't like Lennon would agree by and by Lennon has been very successful in the transfer market .

{Ed007's Note - The Torres/Carroll deals were certainly very expensive wastes of money Chris, it was just the way the deals were set up and paid for that confuses people.}

10.) I just think any poster who posts a list of the unsuccessful buys and ignores the brilliant buys has either a hatred of Lennon or some other agenda . To talk about Lennon going missing after the Celtic won the title on the earliest date that any living club is nonsense . Lennon has shown by back to back Champions League qualification and by the brilliant performance last season in attaining a club record of 10 points that he has what is needed. However some people will never be satisfied .

{Ed007's Note - But you have to admit that on the pitch the team is going backwards, look at this season's domestic cups and this season's CL campaign. If you are mentioning the record 10 points what about also equalling our worst ever European defeat this year? Is that what's needed?
This season can not be seen as a success when we have won less than last year, we seriously flopped in both cups, one to lower league opposition and to not even contest a final without any strong financial opposition can't just be swept under the carpet.
Surely the money spent on Pukki, Balde and now Griffiths would have been better invested in one striker of proven quality?
Look at the style of play, it is boring and predictable and the dwindling crowds at CP show that fans are losing interest and there is nothing on show to entice them, teams who play an expansive fluid attacking game will always entertain the fans which encourages them to attend, they enjoy watching the team play. And if you don't enjoy doing something how can the board expect you to fork out their hard earned budo to do it.
As a manager the only people who actually rate Lennon is CFC fans, by his own admission no teams in England have ever contacted him or the club regarding hiring him, not even Championship teams, why do you think that is?}

11.) I don't have to admit anything of the kind . No Country in Europe treats domestic cups with any importance . Celtic fans spoke with their feet was it less than 10,000 at the Morton game and 30,000 at the Dons match . I think winning the league at the earliest date that any living club ever has more merits . I think the new buys last summer except Virgil were slow to settle and with the January additions we may well now have the best team for years . It's not Lennon's fault the Rangers cheated themselves into oblivion, although the thought of the people fans biggest ever target of abuse, achieving success at Celtic ensured SDM increased his EBT cheating in a poor attempt to stop Lennon been a winner at Celtic . 8 SPL titles later as a player, captain and manager and all Lennon has to win over is a small vocal number of Internet neds .

{Ed007's Note - Good to see you keeping up your high standards of complete garbage Chris. EBTs to stop Lennon, really? And it is a lot more than a few internet neds that are not happy with Lennon, perhaps someone on the board has possibly raised concerns about his ability to move the club forward. What has Rangers cheating got to do with anything NL has done as manager unless you are saying if Rangers didn't go down the tubes they would have won the first title NL did when they were 15 points clear and forced to sell Jelavic?}

12.) That dear editor is a load of nonsense . The e.c. Defeat you mentioned was in a game of little more importance than a mid season friendly . Its easy to talk about bringing in a better striker, how do you know that higher rated strikers refused to come . SPL hasn't that much going for it . Playing expansive football is a wonderful concept . Wave a magic wand and everyone in Scotland will play that way . Un the other hand if one team decides to play four defenders on their 18 yard line and another 4/5 seven or eight yards in front this wonderful expansive game you talk about is no where to be seen . Two teams have to have some degree of positivity so that one team can play expansive . Its difficult to enjoy Celtic play, if you set your mind against enjoying Celtic play .

{Ed007's Note - I have no idea what you are talking about here, sorry.}

13.) Tell us the name of the Director who reckons its time to move Lennon on .

Your source, oh. The Daily Record must be true .

{Ed007's Note - I don't bother reading papers so once again, I have no idea what you are talking about. Why don't you actually try and make a valid point instead of acting like a petulant kid, you're boring me.
Tell me who told you NL was a great manager, Oh the Celtic View, it must be true!}

14.) @chris02 aye mate. 12 out of 44 lennon signings have been good. let's forget about the vast majority of duds signed cause he's "celtic minded". we will forget about juarez, bangura, pukki, balde and boerigter costing approx £13m and basically written off cause lennon got £12m for wanyama. absolute f*d, you are arguable the most deluded poster on this site for questioning why lennon must go.

{Ed007's Note - That's far more eloquently put than I could hope to do DN30.}

15.) @ed007 I was shocked when I read the thread. Absolute tunnel vision at its best from chris lol

{Ed007's Note - Do you think his mam bought him one of 'The Gaffer's calendars at Christmas and do you think the pages are stuck together on it?}

16.) You Mr Ed referred to someone on the board wanting Lennon to move on .

Oh sorry you were only saying perhaps

So perhaps not . Now that's all very stupid wasn't it .

I don't rely on any publication to decide whether I support Celtic, or the odd wee bit or pieces. Neil Lennon is our manager and is doing a damn good job.
If that makes me out to be a freak, what would you call a Celtic supporter who only supports the club when he has all his heroes lined up in position .

{Ed007's Note - NL is doing 'a damn good job' in your opinion, other people disagree. I happen to be one of them as do some people who have a lot more influence than you or me.
I'd call a supporter who only supports the team with all his heroes lined up (or managing the team) Chris or Christine, a lot of women also only like football because they fancy men attached to a club.}

17.) @ed007 lmao stuck on lennons month lol

18.) Lets not forget the fans who support Google FC.

No raw passion, emotion or opinion

19.) @18. don't need "google fc" to build a case against lennon. Something new creeps up on a regular basis

20.) @19 (seeing as we are calling one another numbers) I don't mean you!

The Internet takes the 'rawness' out of being a fan which is quite boring. Some take about a week to form an opinion for whatever reason. Whatever happened to just reacting to the game? This is perfectly normal and has been since Celtic were formed 126 years ago.

A wee bit off tangent from Neil Lennon the Manager but sometimes you just can't beat no phones and no Internet for real opinion.

With kayal saying he wants to leave in the summer and samaras also leaving who else would you guys like to be sold and who would you like to see the money re-invested in. My opinion is a marquee attacking midfielder, commons is not natrually a player who can split open a defence with a pass he has a very good shot with both feet from in and around the box but if we want to play a diamond which by NL's team selections in recent weeks we do we really do need an attacking midfelder, I would also like to see us go in for either cedric mongongu from evian thoron or marco caputo to partner Van dijk at the back and a proven goalscorer said it before but he's a wee bit out of our price range but jelle vossen from genk is absolutely top class don't know how he's not in the prem already, any thoughts on who you'd like to see signed?

ReeceyBhoy7

1.) I’m not going to pretend I watch all the various different leagues so not sure who some of the players are Reece. Totally agree though, I would like to see another decent centre half brought in. Efe has been caught a few times but so has VVD against decent European teams and Aberdeen.

Still want to see a striker brought in and would splash the cash for this position, for Europe I think we always need more of a midfielder who can break up play although a bit of creativity certainly would not go amiss although we could have that with Johansen. Him and Biton are starting to look the part.

The only player I know much about and would like to see signed is Stuart Armstrong from Dundee Utd, he’s such a mature player for his age.

2.) I really don't see why some supporters rate nir Biton he has shown very little since signing for us 20 appearances with 15 of those coming as a sub or not finishing matches. To me he can only play tidy 5-10 yard passes in a holding position which would be fine if we didn't have Scott brown so I only see him continuing to be a bit part player only to be used when Scott brown is rested, injured or suspended.

3.) Like you Jim, I've not seen much of him either to really form an opinion and I don't know if I would say that I 'rate him' just yet.

He seems to have taken his time adjusting to the game here and I was quite impressed with him at the Inverness game in particular (I know they are no Bayern Munich) but you could still see he could read the game and was quick to provide defensive cover. As I said he's just starting to look the part and maybe with a decent run in the team, we'll see more to have a better opinion.

A striker is still priority for me!

It would obvioulsly be great to move but if we did what would be the point in the champs league?

ReeceyBhoy7

{Ed007's Note - I have no doubt that the CL will eventually be replaced by a European Super-League. A number of clubs take the opportunity once or twice a year to discuss various issues including changes in rules, television rights, the power of UEFA, exploitation issues for new technology streams, etc. These discussions also always turn to the possibility of a breakaway pan European league. Several were G14 clubs, several are not, and some clubs decline involvement in such discussions. (2) They would break away from their national leagues and UEFA. They accept that players would initially be banned from FIFA competitions as well, but know that FIFA would be looking to negotiate in any case. It would be the end of UEFA in all probability and UEFA are VERY aware of this. It would also result in a restructuring of many of the national leagues. (3) They would renegotiate their television rights, rights of distribution via other streams etc.. (4) It is the greatest fear of UEFA and all major national authorities are aware that one day it could happen.
As it stands the clubs in the breakaway league wouldn't be eligible to play in the CL, it's UEFA/FIFA's financial constraints they are planning to breaking away from.
If any major club falls foul of FFFP regs it will be interesting to see what, if any, punishment is handed down. The clubs know that without them the CL would become pointless and they are looking at the money that is made off the back of tournaments they participate in. That is money that clubs negotiating their own TV and sponsorship deals could be receiving.
Obviously the CFC board would welcome any invitation regarding moving to a more financially lucrative league but as of now there aren't any serious plans from anyone to form a breakaway league, although a European Super League is, in my view, inevitable in the future.}
