Marvin Compper is rumoured to have been at CP for a tour and some brief discussions. If true, the only way this would be an acceptable deal is if he'll be a squad replacement for Erik if he's moving on and we have another target who's actually going to improve the first team. But then why would Compper swap a German bench for a Scottish bench and also what does that say for Ajer's chances?

1.) 16 Dec 2017 10:28:48
He’s better than boyata and bitton so why would he be a squad replacement for Erik?

{Ed007's Note - So you've watched Compper play, which one of his 3 sub appearances this season impressed you most? For me the guy's older and no better than Sviatchenko and if Erik was willing to stay we wouldn't be chasing Compper.
Any talk of tours of Celtic Park etc are garbage, RB Leipzig haven't given Compper permission to talk to anyone yet so if this tour and talks happened expect the Germans to make a formal complaint to UEFA about it.}

2.) 16 Dec 2017 11:19:29
Seems to me that if this guy is coming in then we will be buying 2 centre backs this window.

3.) 16 Dec 2017 11:16:41
Boab you are the only Bundesliga enthusiast who has had anything positive to say about Compper from what I’ve seen. Ed, I’m hoping the tour is just media guesswork, which has been very prevalent since BR joined the club. Don’t get me wrong I’ve never seen the guy play but the reviews really don’t inspire confidence.

{Ed007's Note - I'm not going to straight out bash Compper because I haven't watched enough of him but I watch a fair bit of German football and although I know who Compper is I can't remember him standing out in any games or highlights I've seen. I would be amazed, and disappointed, if Celtic are pursuing him as a replacement for Simunovic or Boyata.}

4.) 16 Dec 2017 12:02:50
I would hate for a cb to be brought in to take Ajer's place on the bench rather than actually improve the first team. I think we do need a new cb or 2 but I think it should be players who will actually improve the starting 11 rather than a backup.

15 Nov 2017 08:18:41
Filip Benkovic is a name that refuses to go away. Sure I read that Zagreb want £20M but have no European revenue this season so surely that would lower his price into the category of "the money is available for the right player".

1.) 15 Nov 2017 17:58:35
Would be a massive coup if we landed him kev, think he’s the sort of player that would take us forward. But with today’s inflated market you could see the likes of WestBrom etc paying the 20m for a player of his standard. Here’s hoping though.

13 Nov 2017 15:56:07
We're being linked to 20 year old Ukranian striker Artem Dovbyk who has scored 12 goals in 12 games for Dnipro in the Ukranian 2nd Division. His contract is up in December so would be free.

1.) 13 Nov 2017 22:27:35
There was a link to his goals in one of the Celtic blog sites. Even with the wonders of YouTube I didn't see enough to warrant taking him on board. If we are going to play 2 up front then yeah we need 4/ 5 strikers. If we are going down that route then I'd want a higher calibre of player brought in. If we get a shot at the El I don't think we will be playing 2 anyway. I'd like the wages and cash spent elsewhere.

2.) 13 Nov 2017 22:41:04
I can’t see us paying the money for Edouard tbh rglen8 but I don’t see much in this guy either like you say. We’ll probably be looking for a permanent third choice striker at some point but I’d like to see Aitchison given more of a chance soon.

3.) 14 Nov 2017 10:03:53
Voted best young Ukrainian player 2016/ 17, and called up to the Ukraine national squad, if Brendan does want him, and he is free then why not take a chance, never know he could be the next big thing.

4.) 15 Nov 2017 22:33:10
Possible replacement for moussa? I reckon there will be bids in January. Just a hunch.

29 Aug 2017 12:36:32
One rumour going around today is Valentin Stocker who plays mainly as a left winger. Don't see much logic in that unless he can be utilised as a striker too. And suggestions of a CB from City, maybe Denayer? I expect a lot of names to be flying about the place over the next couple of days so fingers crossed we get the guys we're really after. HH.

1.) 29 Aug 2017 13:58:57
I heard he's been playing in behind a striker No10 for the past couple of seasons. He's played a lot of football and at a high enough standard so might be a challenger for Rogic if that's the case! Need a CB though!

2.) 29 Aug 2017 14:17:57
Last thing we need is another midfielder surely. We've got McGregor for that position too and Paddy can play off the striker too. CB has to be the absolute top priority.

3.) 29 Aug 2017 14:22:46
He can play wide number 10 or striker according to few reports I have read.

4.) 29 Aug 2017 14:57:20
If we bring in a winger/ striker, we might ship out benyu or as reported by a garbage site that Cardiff want to loan Hayes.

21 Aug 2017 10:32:16
When the story first broke I assumed it was just to fill column inches, but reports are claiming a move for Coetzee is going ahead. I'm surprised that we're not linked with somebody with more European pedigree but as I've never seen him play I have to trust the scouts and the management.

1.) 21 Aug 2017 11:32:14
He is injured now.

2.) 21 Aug 2017 11:34:35
Yeah I read that but the South African press are still saying he's flying to Glasgow to finalise a move.

3.) 21 Aug 2017 15:04:40
Doubt it will be a goer if scans come back saying he's tore his hamstring?

4.) 22 Aug 2017 13:52:45
done deal.

Now that the draw is finalised, who would everybody like in the draw?

There are no easy games but I'd like to avoid the "glamour ties" (had enough of those already this season) and get maybe Braga, Lokomotiv or Bilbao. They're all beatable but I have a sneaky feeling we'll get Milan which has the glamour but also winnable.

1.) 08 Dec 2017 10:42:47
I'd take Salzburg or Plzen

But we will get Atletico or Arsenal.

2.) 08 Dec 2017 15:13:13
I'd like Salzburg or Milan.

3.) 08 Dec 2017 17:58:15
Would take milan right now but time febuary comes tbey will be a different team as i don't see gattuso still being in charge.

4.) 08 Dec 2017 18:41:28
I recon we could beat any of those teams, likewise we could be beaten by any of those teams.

With winter break, to improve we need someone who could walk into the team - so its unlikely, even if we buy a CB, they will feature in these games. Will be Simo and Boyata of they are fit, Ajer/ Eric/ Lustig/ Biton if they are not. Hence anyone could beat us!

We are in a good place, Leagues won, 1 cup in the bag, still in Europe, and unbeaten in blah blah blah.

Big question now is will the board invest so we can compete better in Europe next season, or will they just make modest improvements because of paragraph 2.

24 Nov 2017 11:30:43
It's a sad day when you agree with Kris Boyd's column. I believe this team is good enough to put the open playing philosophy into use in the Europa League but we must learn lessons with regards to the elite teams and adapt.

1.) 24 Nov 2017 15:07:51
He's a prize fud who needs to be ignored.

2.) 24 Nov 2017 15:22:11
What part do you agree with exactly that Celtic are embarrassing boyd has never scored in the champions leauge group stage his opinion means nothing we beat anderlecht 3 0 away from home playing the same formation if we had defended like we would have done under Martin oneil we wouldn't have got the result personally I would rather watch good attacking football than Walter Smiths park the bus anti football that boyd thinks we should play.

3.) 24 Nov 2017 16:21:05
Of course I agree that it was embarrassing Gordo, we got beat 7-1! And your point about the Anderlecht game just sums up the problem I have with some of our fans and BR when it comes to Europe. There’s this crazy notion that we need to pick between expansive football or defensive football when there’s absolutely no reason to do so. We can play the nice football against a team like Anderlecht but that doesn’t mean we can’t shut up shop against PSG to avoid a roasting. If changing styles to suit the opponent is good enough for guys like Fergie and Mourinho then it’s good enough for us.

4.) 24 Nov 2017 17:03:16
Boyd's own managers always leave him out of the team when they face Celtic, they obviously don't think he is good enough.
Whilst he can't even get in Kilmarnock's team when they play us, he is in no position to criticize us for the way we play against one of the world's top teams.
He is just a bitter old hun.

5.) 24 Nov 2017 17:16:07
Kevbhoy everyone is entailed to there own view but for me we have been better in Europe this year apart from the psg games we have hardly played bad and I personally rather get beat playing better to watch football than park the bus who cares what the media has to say about it.

6.) 24 Nov 2017 17:46:08
Gordo I love our style of play, I really do but surely 2/ 3 games a season we can swallow our pride and try to get through these tough away games with a bit of pride still intact. It’s not just the media, there are a lot of Celtic fans really not happy about this. Anyway, it’s done now and like I said hopefully the EL will provide us with a more accurate measure of where we are as a team and in particular playing in our chosen style.

7.) 24 Nov 2017 18:11:39
True mate we probaly should but one game it's going to pay off and it will all be worth it el is more our level I would say.

8.) 24 Nov 2017 18:35:20
The only way we are going to improve our style of play is by testing it against the very best, and learning it's weaknesses when they are ruthlessly exposed. Apart from these hidings we've had against the top 3 or 4 teams in the world our results have been quite good, beating the champions of Belgium, Norway, Kashakstan, Drawing twice with Man City, etc.

I'm quite optimistic about a run in the Europa League, there are no super teams in it and I think we can take on anyone outwith that group of 4 or 5 teams, the ones that can thrash anyone, even each other.

9.) 24 Nov 2017 22:49:02
he gets paid to criticise us so guess what he does? criticises us! big wow, whos surprised? he's done his job, took his 30 quid, away hame.

its worked tho, cos even I'm talking about him. agree he's a fud and thick as chet, also he is not a journalist - so why anyone reads that is beyond me.

his spell checker must be on overtime.

10.) 25 Nov 2017 08:09:51
Got to agree with kevbhoy on this one. Our CL tactics need to take into account the opposition.

11.) 25 Nov 2017 11:38:17
Boyd is an inarticulate, babbling, stuttering twat with an IQ that matches his 100m sprint time.

Every time i see him with Commons he sounds as if he has great difficulty striving a coherent sentence together.

I couldn't give a single feck what he says. He's like a pub bore who prattles out a load of shite before he leaves early to catch his bus.

12.) 25 Nov 2017 20:03:39
There's a rumour going around that Mike Ashley's on his way back to buy out King. The timing of a few things are interesting - 1/ Selling Newcastle so he's free to take control of another 2/ No manager in place over the water 3/ Preventing the 'tic from getting 10 in a row 4/ Having the bears eating out his hand if he does. If he doesn't, that lot will implode.

{Ed007's Note - Mike Ashley won't be buying TRIFC. Even if it was true all he would do is give them loans, that's all he ever done with Newcastle.}

22 Nov 2017 21:41:41
Domestically we've been brilliant since BR came in and that is to be revered 100% but in Europe it's been shocking at times. Getting beat 7-0, 5-0 and 7-1 just isn't on and you can say what you like about PSG's money or whatever but that's always been the case, and let's not forget we have a bit of money too. Not to the same extent but we have enough to go out and get 2 right good centre halves and a goalkeeper. Ok we'll still lose to the PSG's of this world but maybe by 1, 2 or even 3 goals - not 5, 6 or 7.

1.) 22 Nov 2017 22:02:54
That PSG team will win it imo.

2.) 22 Nov 2017 22:03:04
beat 1 2 3 or 5 6 7 = 3 points to the opposition, that all that matters.

3.) 22 Nov 2017 22:12:18
Agree with that Kev. However good they are doesn't hide the fact our defending tonight was shocking. UEFA would be as well holding an 8 team tournament for teams that have spent over 500 million assembling their teams and let them fight it out. C'mon Pedro get the appeal in and get them on the Fifa fair play rule and get them kicked out. 🤣🤣🤣.

4.) 22 Nov 2017 22:24:44
Digibanger that’s nonsense mate, of course the nature of defeat matters. If you have a good defence you may still lose the game but you go into it thinking you might give yourself a chance if you can nick something up the other end. This PSG team are an extreme example but we could have beaten Bayern at home if we had a good defence and be looking to have a run deep into the EL. Can you see that happening with Bitton, Jozo or Boyata at CB and Gordon in goal?

5.) 22 Nov 2017 22:43:55
Couldn't agree more with everything you said kev. Getting beaten by a Barcelona, PSG, Munich etc is no disgrace given the financial gulf between them and us. What i do find unacceptable is getting pumped by 5,6,7 goals. For me that's not on. The defending at that level by us is shocking and is drastically needing looked at. Granted we can't go out and buy a 20,30 million defender, what we can do is go out and get players with the same idea and potential as big Virgil van dyke. we must use our scouting system to the max and source out the best quality that we can attract to Celtic. The defenders we have stroll the SPFL at a canter, but champions league, or Europa league for that matter definitely needs a step up in quality. Roll on Sunday and get this result out our systems.

6.) 23 Nov 2017 06:58:34
Some of the defending was a disgrace. That was PSGs biggest victory this season. Perhaps they turned it on, but I think it was more a case of us giving them a helping hand. Learn from it and move on Bhoys.

7.) 25 Nov 2017 07:47:20
'We have a bit of money as well' hahahah! League is priority and 3rd place in that group was what we wanted.

8.) 25 Nov 2017 07:48:40
Another left and right back along with 2 Centre Half's and a goalkeeper. Whenever Dembele goes his transfer fee along with the VVD money should be used for them. Expected a 4 or 5 nil but at the end of the day we where outclassed by a wonderful attacking team. Europa League after xmas was always the goal and that's more our level.

9.) 25 Nov 2017 07:48:32
Imo b. rogers european record must be worst in last 10 years but coz its him we are ok with it.

10.) 25 Nov 2017 07:51:11
Mon 2000 level playing field Neil Lennon 6 1 Barcelona I know we beat them too rodgers 7 away to Barcelona 7 away to psg the gap is huge back in 2003 bayern beat Mon Celtic 2 1 Celtic had a bigger wage bill than bayern!

05 Nov 2017 13:55:21
Paulo Gazzaniga was impressive in goal for Spurs today, given MOTM by Glenn Hoddle. 25 years old but third choice behind Vorm.

1.) 05 Nov 2017 14:52:59
He may have had a good game today but he is a bang average GK. Would take Vorm but not him.

2.) 05 Nov 2017 14:58:15
I'd lime the guy Ward fae Liverpool that was in loan at aberdeen.

3.) 05 Nov 2017 18:00:50
I never understood why some on here have such a stauner for Vorm 10 appearances in the last 3-4 years 0 ambition happy to sit on the bench and collect a paycheck, not for me would rather have a keeper who wants to play.

4.) 05 Nov 2017 19:00:49
Big. D I have stated the exact same opinion a few times on here about vorm.
The guy has spent his best years on a bench when he was good enough to be playing week in week out at a big club.
I would much rather find another big frazer who has a drive to improve and reach the top.

5.) 06 Nov 2017 08:23:40
change the nappy pampers.

6.) 06 Nov 2017 09:28:02
Totally Kev! Young Ward looked a very good keeper during his time up here and I'm amazed he has not got more of a chance with the 2 diddies in front of him at Liverpool. Add to that the fact the Liverpool will no doubt go out and buy another keeper, rather than promoting the boy, I think there could be a real chance of getting him and IMO would be money very well spent.

7.) 06 Nov 2017 23:43:58
Can we really judge these goalkeepers, young Ward and big Vorm,
Most of us see them 3/ 5 times a season and we judge Gordon who we watch 49+ times a season.

8.) 07 Nov 2017 08:11:45
We seen Ward for Aberdeen where he played 21 games and often thwarted us with some great saves. Seemed very consistent during his time up here as well. Don't think you will get a better look into a potential signing than that.

9.) 07 Nov 2017 21:35:55
I don't know about u lads, but I watch Celtic matches and hence would only be quaranteed to see Aberdeen Four times against us and maybe I would also see them a couple of times per season against weak opposition, nothing like the amount of times we see Gordon.

Like we area all Celtic supporters and hence we are bound to see more of our players than others . Thankfully the club employ a good team of scouts to check out potential signings.

04 Nov 2017 00:22:23
I see there is to be a minute's silence tomorrow before kick off. I really hope everyone, regardless of their instincts, observes it fully as it would give the media carte blanche to make it a massive story and take the shine off what may well be one of the biggest days in our club's history. HH#63.

{Ed007's Note - And it'll help take attention away from the TRIFC accounts. An absolute nonsense to announce this the night before the match and it's not even Rememberance Weekend till next week.
We go through this every year, it's all total bollocks. If you want to wear a poppy wear one and if you don't then don't. Neither person needs to go on about Ireland, the Empire or what their papa done in the wars. In the bigger picture you wearing a daft wee bit of paper (wasn't that Haig's way of injured soldiers earning, making the poppies?) is up to you. Just don't force wearing one or not down each other's throat, you won't change anyone's mind or opinion.
FIFA shat it and should have banned it all when they had the chance, this scunners me every year.
Today, the 3rd, is the 26th anniversary of my uncle killikng himself, Larkhall born and bred, joined up at 16 and when his time was up he couldn't live in civvy street, nobody helped him when he asked and was senctioned? He couldn't cope and sadly took an OD and that was that, the amount of drugs in his system showed it wasn't a cry for help. My mam had to get the money together to bury him and not once in the past 26 years has anyone been in touch with my mam or sister about him, I remember something about a pension but he had a young son.
If someone is paying to go somewhere you might get shot it's their responsibility to look after the injured or dead. We shouldn't need soldiers in pointless wars but we shouldn't need charities to look after those who have went. They make enough money selling the arms to the terrorists to use against us in the first place.

1.) 04 Nov 2017 07:12:54
Not much point in having shiny bollix if you can't use them .

2.) 04 Nov 2017 08:42:43
Today's team I would like to see the 3/ 1/ 4/ 2 wae grif and MD up top.

3.) 04 Nov 2017 05:15:51
Sad story that ed and unfortunately not so uncommon. Good friend of mine was left on his arse after serving luckily there's a charity soldiers off the streets which he says he owes his life to.

{Ed007's Note - There's plenty of young men out who are forgotten about and cast aside wgen their time as cannon fodder is up. Why did your friend need a charity for help when it was our government he was working for when all his traumas took place? They shoull be footing the bill of looking after them.

4.) 04 Nov 2017 07:10:09
Sad story Ed and a heartfelt post. For me a football arena is exactly that . a place to go and watch football. Next Sunday people will have the chance to remember the fallen Wether it be at a cenotaph church or mass. There's no need for it at sporting events. Would a minutes silence be held before the first set of an Andy Murray match or the 2.15 at Cheltenham? Everyone has there own opinion on wars conflicts etc. The bhoys/ Ghirls supporting Glasgow Celtic football club at Perth today are as much an ambassador for the club as Big Billy Mcneil is. I'm suspicious as to whether this is a 'poppy trap' or not but what I do know is that SMSM will be sharpening the pencils as we speak. Let's not give them ammunition to try and taint us. ☘.

5.) 04 Nov 2017 08:18:12
ED007 very sad story about you uncle, and I agree was that not the purpose of buying a poppy, to help servicemen and their families.
As for the minute's silence I will observe it in memory of my grandad but it is a personal choice. As is buying or wearing a poppy.
What gets me angry is the way TRIFC have hijacked this, and it is simply as ED007 says to deflect attention away from how poor their team is and how poor their bank balance is. I do not remember them making such a big thing about Remembrance Sunday years ago, no it is only since they died and rose again as the tribute act. Hypocrites the lot of them.

{Ed007's Note - It's only a recent thing in the UK, before it was a solemn and respectful Rememberance of those who died in the 2 wars. It's changed it's meaning now and as like most things right wing lunatics hijack it's an embarrassing fiasco that even a lot of ex-services have turned their back on.
God bless your granddad, Tim, that's the generation who the real heroes were.}

6.) 04 Nov 2017 12:25:19
Well said Ed. I have the utmost respect for the bravest of the brave who fought and died in the 2 wars.

7.) 04 Nov 2017 19:39:52
I'm sure the Catholic community in Derry won't be interested in a minutes silence for british thugs who murdered 14 innocent civilians on a civil rights March, it isn't a crime to boo these people.

If Chelsea would want an alternative option then maybe they’d be willing to sell him permanently, maybe with a buy back clause. Or potentially an 18 month loan as I don’t see them buying a player to cover a 6 month loan or loaning somebody themselves.

Right so if Leipzig had gone through or finished 4th Compper could have been registered as the exception? I'd guess the club are setting their sights higher than this guy anyway based on the amount of negative reviews he's been getting from practically anyone who knows German football.

{Ed007's Note - Yep, you've got it sussed, Kev (yes) There was never any serious interest in Compper, he's no more than a name on a list of possible signings for short term cover at CB.}

So Ed is any player who played in CL ineligible for EL? Are they both classed as the same?

{Ed007's Note - Basically yes, Kev. 44.02 (b) is the important one regarding Marvin Compper moving to Celtic. The rules are the same for the EL but it's Article 43 in the EL Regs.

UEFA CL Regs 2015-18 Paragraph 42.07:

As a rule, a player may not play in a UEFA club competition (i.e. UEFA Champions
League and UEFA Europa League, but not UEFA Super Cup) for more than one club in the course of the same season. Exceptionally, however, a player who has been fielded in the first, second, third qualifying round or the play-offs of the UEFA Champions League or UEFA Europa League is entitled to play in the UEFA Champions League or UEFA Europa League for another club as from the group stage. Moreover, as from the start of the round of 16, a player can be registered in accordance with Paragraph 44.01 to Paragraph 44.04. A substitute player who has not been fielded is entitled to play for another club competing in the UEFA Champions League or UEFA Europa League in the course of the same season, provided that he is registered with the UEFA administration in accordance with the present regulations.

Paragraph 44.01:

For all matches from the start of the round of 16 (32 for the EL), a club may register a maximum of three new eligible players for the remaining matches in the current competition. Such registration must be completed by 1 February 2018 (24.00CET) at the latest. This deadline cannot be extended.

Paragraph 44.02:

One player from the above quota of three who has been fielded in a UEFA club competition group stage match for another club in the current season may exceptionally be registered, provided that the player has not been fielded:

a. in the same competition for another club; or

b. for another club that is currently in the same competition.

The unbeaten run is being used to excuse substandard performances in my view. Instead of picking the bones of throwing away a 2 goal lead folk are happy to just gloss over it with “68 unbeaten”. It’s an amazing achievement but for us to have drawn a third of our league games isn’t acceptable.

Rossbach is a really good shout Ed, he was supposed to be signing for one of the Manchester clubs recently but I think he got a bad injury and it fell through. I'd rather that type of signing than a 34 or 35 year old as we've seen how difficult Craig Gordon has found it at times adapting to being more of a ball player as he's a bit longer in the tooth. McGinn would be a good signing and the Lewis Morgan link doesn't seem to be going away either.

It would make sense for absolutely nobody.
