Sevco Sly are reporting Sunderland keen on VVD but stalling on apparent £8m fee quoted?
I think he is our best defender - although he is still learning and making mistakes - but if he left, it would leave us very exposed and even more short of quality.

This is a shockingly poor display. Accept we have fought back from a disastrous start, but far too many of them are wayward with passing, clumsy in control and very hesitant.
There is no urgency, pace or craft and we are so vulnerable.
Forrest is invisible yet again and the midfield are very pedestrian.
My main concern is we seem to need three goals (at least) to win every game and we have very little on the bench these days to improve things.

Its been very average. We have set out to get 3points and not take any risks. The result being a dull, flat footed display. Ill take the points but how often has that been the case domestically?

2.) 04 Oct 2015 19:20:10
A fighting win , good to get , very little fluent play .

Crosas, Nguemo, JV of H, Bobo Balde, Valgaeren, Rieper, Weighorst, Bitton, Nakamura, Wanyama, Izzaguire and Ki. There are many more, fellow posters could add to the list of players that did/do a decent job and did not cost a lot to bring to the club.
In fact there are one or two more illustrious bargain buys I missed.
OK, we have also signed some bingers, but the above list is a reminder of the widespread talent that we managed to sign in the past - and should be endeavouring to pursue nowadays.
Not the likes of Gordon, Boyata, Ciftci, Scepovic and Carlton Cole (if it's true).
Complacency and penny pinching (at player and manager level) is not good for the club and is counter productive, not to mention seriously harming our CL record.
There are decent players in our price range if the scouts/coaches would just look further than the newspapers and social media.

Larsson and izzy tosh mckinlay big pierre morton weighorst

{Ed007's Note - Joos Valgaeren cost £3.8 million, Nakamura was £2.5 million and Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink cost around £3.5 million. We got great value for money but I don't think we got any bargains with those three considering what we spend on players today}

2.) 22 Sep 2015 15:44:11
Jungle Jim we all have the one aim and that is to have Celtic strong and successful in the SPL and Europe .
We all, includes the manager, scouts Mr Lawwell and the board , so maybe you could help us out with the decent players within our price range .
We all want to know their names .
I think over the last 3 years we have signed many decent players whose names were not in the newspapers . These players include Bitton Rogic and Johannson to name a few, but please help the scouts .

3.) 22 Sep 2015 22:31:46
Dry your eyes Old Bhoy, You managed to name only three - whereas I rattled off quite a few who were well within our budget at that particular time.
I am not employed as a scout or have a remit to travel around spotting and recommending players, but there are well-paid employees of our club who we trust to do so.
However, In the period you mention, signings have also included Fortune, Moukoyolo, Murphy, Bangura, Scepovic, Balde, Boerigter, Pukki and loan signings like Tonev, Wakaso, Berget, Lassad and Brozek - just to name a dozen or so that have been utterly forgettable (and I am certain there are others).
Smaller clubs than ours manage to attract decent talent from around the globe - and we agree, that we have done in the past. All I am saying is we seem to be getting lazy in our recruitment compared to previous years.

4.) 23 Sep 2015 18:48:29
Your point is Jungle Jim?
Over very many years you have listed numerous signings. Great , however what I have done is mention 3 star signings in three years up to the present time . Over the coming years we may be happy to find more of the players signed in the last 3 years have done well for us.
I see no evidence of our scouting team becoming lazy just now . Give the players time to develop with us

As I write this Aberdeen have just taken the lead and although Hearts may well come back into it? - recent form and momentum, would suggest an Aberdeen win.
The challenge we have lacked since 2012 seems to have fully manifested itself in red and white (sheepskin) ha ha.

It's likely Aberdeen, may hit a slump and have injury and suspensions like the rest of us, but we have the more experienced and capable squad for domestic challenges, as we have proved in the title, but have yet to reach our best form and we certainly have to sort out our very frail defence starting today I hope!

The players have to cut out the individual errors and lapses and show they are up for a fight.
The support expect a lot better and so should the manager.

Jungle jim

You do Aberdeen a great disservice. They are playing a line up to the one that ran riot in Croatia against rajika. Counter attacking. Deep lying and fast breaking. It has delivered two of their three goals

Aberdeen dropped Rooney today ( he has scored in his last five matches) but Macinnes had a plan today and he is executing a different plan for a different opponent beautifully

Has RD ever ever ever ever done that?

Aberdeen are for real and McCann is loving it

2.) 20 Sep 2015 17:39:30
Don't think I did Paradise, I predicted they would win and that they are our title challengers - and worthy ones too.
It's still only September and they will hit a slump and may lose players for the reasons I mentioned.
The media have went OTT about Aberdeen, especially with the recent problems we have had, but I won't write us off this early in the season - unless we have a major collapse before Halloween, when we play Aberdeen at Celtic Park in part 2.
After that, we will have a clearer picture of our season.

We have the bigger, more experienced squad and have yet to hit our best form - although 6-0 today is a good start.
I am only too well aware of RD's (and his back-room staff) limitations, and we all have concerns about his tactics, substitutions and throw-away-comments, but there was some improvement from the players in the Ajax game (to a point) and today we have a six goal victory and clean sheet, so maybe the players have finally got the message?
The next few fixtures in all competitions will tell.

3.) 20 Sep 2015 19:26:11
JungleJim it is rare that any team can go through a season without a dip in form , that can come at any time but winning teams react well. The special one and Chelsea have blotted their copy book big time domestically already this season . However I don't think they will be far away at the end of the EPL season .
Successful managers often look helpless both on the sidelines and in post match interviews but it is what they do between matches is what gets the team on track .
The chosen one can appear to be a real nutter during and after the match , however we cannot question his ability to win major prizes .
Encourage Deila and the players and we will get there .

Typical Celtic! They lift you up and drop you down like a sack a spuds time and time again.
What a good bit of play with Commons and Bitton followed by a superb goal. Then we fall out of it a bit, lose a goal, but manage to get back in front before half time and settle down. (so far so good)?
My only concerns at that point were the ineffective Forrest and the erratic Izzaguire who was kicking anything that moved.

We could have added to our lead, but that would have been too good to be true and Ajax started to push for a way back while Forrest was still invisible and Izzaguire decided to get himself sent off.
Deila must have been the only man that never saw that coming and must take blame for poor judgement.

The onslaught began and we sat further and further back and we knew what was on the cards!
Gordon has been a disaster for a month now and needs telling.

Over the piece, most Celtic supporters would have been happy with a draw, after the recent 'crisis' but when you lose a lead in these circumstances it's hard to take any consolation (right away).

Ajax played the high pressing, slick passing game RD professes to but we seem to have a way to go?
On a bright note, Brown had a great game along with everyone else apart from Gordon, Forrest and Izzy.
The latter could never play for us again and I would not care a jot.

Boyata was not bad, but played Lustig into trouble too much, while the new boy had a quiet baptism.

Ah well, some good, bad and ugly - and at least we got a draw at a very difficult venue in a very, very difficult group.
Was gutted to drop out of the CL and we still have a few team issues to sort out, but if all the games have as much as this then the EL will be very entertaining.

JungleJim

1.) 17 Sep 2015 22:05:10
I have to say I thought Izzy was superb for us up until he got over excited and got himself sent . We all seen the trouble his player gave us after Izzy got sent off . I wonder if we had made two changes to the back four around the hour mark and lost a goal or two, how much shoite would Deila have got .

16 Sep 2015 11:18:17
Could one of the main problems be Collins, as he has had history with Brown before and had a 'mutiny' at Hibs with his attitude and lack of communication skills.
I know Kennedy has very little experience and I was surprised he was a defensive coach, when his own promising career was sadly cut short; however if the players assume they know better than the coaches, that's always a source of unrest.
The team seemed to have turned the corner after Christmas and we managed some great displays in the run in with plenty goals and good football, but it seems to have gone wrong in a very short time?
The transfer window is closed and we are 'stuck' with the squad we have (limited or otherwise), but there is always room for another experienced coach or two if the back room team is faltering.
It is very unlikely the manager will be sacked and we don't want that, but a new assistant or two may freshen things up and give the club a much needed lift.

JungleJim

1.) 16 Sep 2015 11:58:39
JungleJim there is far too much interferance at board level. To say its bizarre, is being polite. Every manager of any club should be allowed to select own backroom staff, from coaches to scouts.

If Deila had this privilege, I geniunely believe we would be seeing better performances and possibly better players signed.

Roy Keane knocked job back on grounds of celtic making him feel "not wanted enough". Makes me wonder if he was told he was going to be a puppet for board if appointed. A highly insulting gesture by board if they did

2.) 16 Sep 2015 12:03:24
If new coaches are needed it's because the existing aren't very good so sack them rather than add to them, and if it's to give Ronny some different ideas then sack him and just move the new guy in rather than have him being undermined further. we all have ideas how to improve us as a team and if Ronny can't/won't change then the final outcome will be Ronny proves us all wrong or he gets the sack eventually.

3.) 16 Sep 2015 12:31:48
The main problem is the mangers ability

tactically naive

Inflexible and unable to change the system in games

Playing players out of position

Poor use of substitutes

failure to appreciate and counter the threats of the opposition

4.) 16 Sep 2015 15:30:35
DN, Ryan Giggs was forced upon LVG I don't see him having any problems. The problem here is the obvious 1 the manager is not up to it.The manager makes all the final decisions yes he will always consult with the coaches as every manager does but its his final say.
Seems to me that the board get blamed, Lawwell gets blamed, John Park gets blamed, Collins and kennedy get blamed. Whos next the cleaning lady ffs. The answer is in front of your eyes and the ONLY person responsible for results and performances.Ronny Deila.

5.) 16 Sep 2015 20:54:08
True rayman, and dn30 you slagged Lennon off and blamed him for everything (including the squad he left him) and now your saying RD has no blame, but everyone else does.
You've also mentioned a number of times RD has no say on players coming in, I don't believe that for a minute, and my reason is all the Scottish based players we've signed.

6.) 16 Sep 2015 23:36:22
Never said RD has no blame as he is losing credibility by the week with his team selections, results, signings (or lack of), and quotes; but I just wondered how we have slumped so badly since the end of last season, when we were flying?
I knew VVD and Denayer would be a big loss, but I never thought the majority of the players would be struggling.
Just wondered since the problems coincided with Collins being quoted with the 'lack of competition' comments, that it had backfired and caused some bad feeling and resentment behind the scenes and if the management team was fragmented?

I thought after his terrific start he would have a slump as he had not played competitively for so long.
However he seems to have been off the boil for far too long and seems to be distracted and not focussed on getting in the team.
If Griffiths and Stokes can get in the side before him, it's not a good sign for the future.
RD obviously does not rate Scepovic and I have not seen anything from his brief starts to suggest he has a future at Celtic.

I think he has got to say that to remind his employers not to forget about him and state his ambition.
The likelihood would seem Chelsea win the EPL and City may hire a new boss and that will have a big bearing on the lads future.
There is no doubt he has formed a great partnership with VVD and they will be a hard act to follow, so we must make the most of them while we can and winning trophies can help them decide.

Would take this with a massive shovel of (rock)salt as he would cost £2m approx and we won't even spend a tenth of that to get GMS right away.

It's all hit and miss at the last minute as the players/agents are trying to get the best financial deal possible and we will never be favourites in that scenario.
The club wait, time and time again until the last minute to 'simulate' transfer activity in an effort to kid the fans and it doesn't fool anyone.
We are very quick to sell players at a time and price that suits the buyer and are too often left in a position of desperation on the final day when it is obvious we have left ourselves with cash in the bank, but a severe lack of quality/cover in the team.

Just seen Wullie Ballache on SLY saying the move to Getafe has been banjo'd for financial reasons and the player is in Spain technically club-less.
I know we are crying out for fresh talent and a boost in moral, but the guy body swerved us at the last minute and could be a bengal lancer?
We should go for Russell or McGinn.

Early days yet and we have still to hit top form but they seem to have had an adverse effect from their victory over us? Motherwell, with a new manager - will be up for our visit, all the same; and I will wait and see what Celtic team turns up at Fir Park tomorrow - but hopefully we'll take advantage.

Have only just found out about Johansen's injury -although I think he has been playing poorly since the January window - Playing a player with a back injury is ridiculous for several reasons and is very counter productive to the team and player. Arse kicking worked for the likes of Big Jock through to Alex Ferguson and is a well known cure-all for slackers.

I think we need to look at a few areas and sincerely hope RD is thinking along the same lines (to a certain extent)? Gordon has had his purple patch and surely, was never a long term solution to replace Forster. The centre back pairing has to be addressed and settled asap He must realise by now, what limitations and liabilities we have assembled and who he can rely on (if any). Lustig is class but has fitness issues while Izzy is great going forward, but even young Tierney has shown he is better defensively. Janko can do a job - although Blacket has not impressed and can go back any time. Johansen is going through the motions and seems a shadow of the 'player of season' last term; Needs his bum kicked. Bitton and Brown are important influences, but like most of the squad, must work on distribution and ball retention. Forrest and GMS hardly make a decent winger between them and are far too inconsistent. (McGinn leaving was a big mistake)
I would persevere with GMS as I feel Forrest has had umpteen chances and still leaves me frustrated more times than not. Although I had my doubts, I have to say, Griffiths has been outstanding - but we have failed miserably in recruiting other quality strikers for a few seasons and need to add at least another quality striker - after releasing Stokes and Boerigter in the January window. Sounds a bit like a letter to Santa!?

I suppose you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear and we have some real grunters lugs in that defence these days.
I have no doubt he has an ability to talk and teach a good game, but we need to see it manifested on the pitch.
My main concern is still with the recruitment and transfers - where we never replace like with like (or better) and have dropped well below the CL standard we were famous for.
The International breaks have been a hindrance and an obstacle for consistent progress so far and I look forward to seeing the team get to grips with the challenges ahead and seeing the theory put into practice.

Towards the end of last season I saw some real progress in the team and the way we were playing; however, the loss of Denayer and VVD has had the expected effect on our defensive play and if the fans expected it - so too should the manager and board and had some real quality lined up asap and not just dealing in loan signings and last-gasp stop gaps.
The fluidity and confidence has been inconsistent in the players with only Griffiths and maybe Lustig at 100%.
We could and should have done better in the summer window both in and out of the club, but we should have enough about us for domestic challenges.
I still feel we need a goalkeeper, stopper, left back, consistent winger and quality striker to make CL progress.
