I am happy with the performance and the result tonight I thought we played well in the midfield and up front, difficult to evaluate the defence as they had very little to do. I thought Broony was great tonight. for all those fans who continually ask for him to be axed it's going to be a long season typing after every game. He is the captain and BR is going to organise the team around him.

Browns level tonight. Same kinda opposition as east kilbride.

2.) 20 Jul 2016 22:50:27
Guys, I sometimes feel that we are blinded by the decent thing to say in defence of Celtic. The issues are still there. Brown IS finished, if he ups his game then fair play but he has no intelligence as a Celtic captain. We need a quality and imposing central defender possibly two. A right back and an enforcer in the midfield. We also need another striker. Like many of you I've suffered the dark years before the burns and MON days. We are too small in stature, not enough captain material and a lot of youth but we need battle hardened strong characters and that costs money. Aside from the manager we have actually spent nothing. You need to build a team but the orcs are well ahead in terms of strengthening. Be under no illusion the current team is not capable of beating the orange brigade over 4 matches or Aberdeen for that matter and the same could be said of entry to the champions league. That's a fact. We have the manager and resource to make it happen. The young talent is promising but you need to add winning mentalities and enforcers on the pitch as that mob will be kicking and biting through the current squad. Not easy to offload players as you need a buying party but agree a few off the wage bill can create a carrot for the better players. If BR can transform 3 average current players I for one would be pleased as a bonus. We need 5 players to stay on top and be in the CL or we will open the door to Ibrox. Capabilities from a position of strength. We've noticeably slipped down the EUFA rankings but for championship money you could be securing the likes of Rosenberg, Legia etc best players and it would be a step up for them as a package. St justa would be a great signing and would also offer huge return value.

3.) 20 Jul 2016 23:01:43
I'm concerned because we need new players, even if the current squad delivered a top performance it doesn't mask the fact that they are not good enough to get into the CL or beat sevco over 4 games or indeed Aberdeen.

4.) 20 Jul 2016 23:39:26
This squad of players needs improving no doubt but it finished 15 points in front of Aberdeen last season why wouldn't it do the same this season. there are a lot. Of Celtic fans very anxious about what is happening over at Ibrox, I can't understand why they are signing a collection of has beens, free agents and second raters we will wipe the floor with them over three games and four if they make the top six. By the way typing in capitals does not strengthen an argument never the less Scott brown IS NOT finished, not anywhere near it.

5.) 20 Jul 2016 23:53:15
We did what we should of done in the first leg bud. We had a spell, scored a few then stepped off. I enjoyed the win. To say there isn't enough to beat the rangers or Aberdeen and win 3 out of 4 then I don't think so. Point is and I'm sure it's one you will agree on is we should be able to do it with a bit more to get excited about, rather than just recording the wins. A few players showed some promise last year to move forward with and the last two signings look OK so far. 2 or 3 more would be a real advantage. If Europe is what we are targeting then imo we haven't moved quickly enough and it has slowed us down targeting players that could wait for a bigger wage that play down the road. Do our scouts not have passports?

6.) 21 Jul 2016 00:07:03
I listened to the game on the radio tonight, so I have to rely on how the commentators percieved the game, according to them Armstrong had a good game, Roberts had a brilliant first half and the red imps goalie saved his team from a very heavy defeat., this goalie is 38,and I started thinking wasn't Ronnie Simpson the same age when he came back to Celtic, just a thought, maybe he do as a back up/
Replacement to zGordon, but my guestion to anyone that was at the match, in the midfield, was there enough creativity and inventiveness and guile, for in Europe that is what separates the teams with good/ lucky defence/ attackd, that was one of Ronnies biggest mistakes playing Johansen and Biton, instead of Armstrong and Allan, and this season Henderson is availabke as well, zI hope BR realised Scot Brown had been a great servant to the club, but age has caught up with him, and sadly he must be dropped.

7.) 21 Jul 2016 00:44:33
It was what it was aindoh. I don't think we learned anything. We did the job that was expect first time round. To sum it up, we played well against a team that looked like an early draw of a domestic cup. BR was again stressing preseason preparation and to me that is what it felt like after the goals. Until we line up in the 2nd and hopefully 3rd round then we will get a better idea how players are responding. Early days but glad to go through.

8.) 21 Jul 2016 01:34:51
After last week's debacle I was delighted to come through tonight and have the tie won in 30 mins . We were not perfect tonight but we dealt capably with what was in front of us . Just mentioning a few players . Lustig did very well, spun round and drove the ball home brilliantly, wasn't pressurised in defence but was alert enough to cover Erik on a couple of occasions . Brown played well, more like the player of a couple of years ago, leading and encouraging, played a few slack passes and a few unnecessary back passes but some delightful foreward passes both long and short . Wee Forrest started off brilliantly cutting g through defenders and getting crosses in . In fact I think he set an early tempo which the rest took up. He didn't seem to get fed with the ball as often from around 35 mins and faded out, maybe because Roberts was so brilliant on other wing . McGregor and Armstrong were very good . Our front two LG and M D missed a bagful but I think they could become a very lethal partnership with plenty of goals . I think we seen the basis of a good team tonight, with one or two in we could become very good and definitely worth watching .

9.) 21 Jul 2016 08:13:07
Tasty, why are you so obsessed with what Rangers are doing? That's two posts I've seen now where you seem more concerned with them than anything else. They are signing out of contract players for no or very little fees. Yes it may be strengthening their team but to be fair that would not have been a difficult task. There is no doubting we need a few players in but we are talking a whole different market. We need quality players to take us forward, this costs a lot of money and cannot be rushed and made an arse of. Also we offer people deals and need to wait on answers before the deal gets done or we can move on to the next target. Mark my words, rangers are not a threat. By the time September comes we will be much stronger, fitter and getting used to the new managers way. I'd be more concerned about getting a winger and defender in before Astana than what that mob can do.

10.) 21 Jul 2016 23:06:44
It won't be the Rangers signings or their existing players that will cause us the most worry . It will be the MSSM and the referees that will try to affect the confidence of players and supporters . The strange decisions which the MSSM will ignore could affect the players concentration, remember the referee over ruled the lines man in the last game between us and them, our players stupidly hesitated and they scored, wee moves by officials always seem in the one direction.

Sorry for my tardiness Ed but I wanted to say happy birthday, all the best and also take the opportunity to thank you for your hard work on the site, it is really enjoyable to have such good banter among us celtic men.

{Ed007's Note - Thanks very much. That's nice of you to say that, Grout, and makes it all worthwhile.}

The 30 anniversary of love street brought back some great memories among them a little song we sang that night when celebrating. It goes to the dad's army tune

Who do you think you are kidding Wallace mercer if you think the league is won

The celts went down Paisley town,
They didn't stand a chance
but when we heard the score from dens
Then we began to dance

Who do you think you are kidding Wallace mercer if you think the league is won

Souness is going to sign a star
He's made a million bid
but Celtic we don't need no one
Cause we have Albert Kidd

Who do you think you are kidding Wallace mercer if you think the league is won

Happy days boys.

1.) 02 May 2016 20:32:35
OMG i remember that.

Was at love street that day with my dad ( god rest his soul) , happy happy memories.

3.) 02 May 2016 22:06:04
First game I went to that a raw 13 yr old only got going as it was in my grand parents back yard one of the first on the pitch in the days I could run.

4.) 02 May 2016 22:30:13
Oh Mikey Mikey! Mikey Mikey Mikey Mikey Galloway. I remember belting that out from the Jungle when he scored a goal from about 35 yards against Dundee United.

Great result today, always nice to win at their place. Plenty of energy desire and commitment today. Happy for RD as well to leave with this success behind him. Hopefully a top quality manager next year will lead us onto bigger and better things. A special word for Efe today thought he did really well particularly dealing with their crosses. Well done LG should be the Scottish player of the year no doubt.

Grout64

1.) 30 Apr 2016 16:39:56
Well said Grout64.

2.) 30 Apr 2016 17:57:34
Watching efe today and I know some have said he should play DM before but I think that could be a good position for him he played some good forward passes instead of the usual play along the back 4 till brown or Bitton come and take it.

3.) 30 Apr 2016 18:12:14
It amazes me that when ambrose plays and actually doesn't make an arse of it, which is his job by the way! It amazes me that people start comin out with he could play RB because he plays there for his country or he could play this or that position! The guy is a clown and a total liability! And the Nigerian fans think so to! Because he makes mistakes on a regular basis with them to! He should be the first to go in the summer! I could sit here and name the games he's made an absolute howler in or been sent off but I would be here all night!

4.) 30 Apr 2016 19:04:46
The one thing I will say Beav is he never, ever hides and gives his all every time. If our better players tried as hard as him we would have been in the CL groups this year and had at least a double.

5.) 30 Apr 2016 19:53:32
Doesn't matter how good ambrose plays there is always a big mistake round the corner

6.) 30 Apr 2016 20:33:23
It's very difficult for Ambrose not to make a mistake . The abuse he has to listen to from the stands and read in the forum is unreal . Especially when you know the loudest of his critics never got picked for a team over 16 years old.

7.) 30 Apr 2016 21:02:11
Old Bhoy There is no valid defence of Ambrose, he is out of his depth. Far too many serious mistakes that have cost dearly. Any footballer who let's fans affect their game is clearly not standard required to play at this level.

8.) 30 Apr 2016 21:05:40
When ambrose first signed can't remember which game and who against but he played the dm position. He was excellent that day, I thought that first season he should probably be a dm. Too error prone to play anywhere across the backline, saying that still think it's time for him to move, efe's concentration is what let's him down, I don't think it's something that can be taught either.

9.) 01 May 2016 01:02:34
That was in the League Cup against one of them Championship teams .

I have to say one thing tonight when some of us are Celebrating 5 in a row, others prefer to ridicule one of our players and we are supposed to be the best fans in the world, well we are certainly not the best supporters in the world.

01 Mar 2016 09:07:06
Poetic patient following our discussion at the weekend I wonder if you have seen the quote from Scott Allan

"I was slow of the Mark on the wing". "I thought I played better in the second half when I WAS MOVED inside. Clearly he was unaware he was playing in the PIRLO role as you imagine, and was labouring under the impression he was to play on the wing. I suggest you reexamine that point you believe was proved.

Grout64

1.) 01 Mar 2016 11:17:49
I never said Pirlo played on the wing. You either know that, and are deliberately misrepresenting me, or you genuinely don't and can't read. Either way, there is little to no reason to engage on it with you.

But, for clarity sake as I know you're struggling:

The wing is a part of the pitch. A winger is a detailed and specific position a player undertakes.

So you can stand on the wing, you can run down the wing, and you can even at on the wing. But that doesn't mean you are a winger.

I don't expect you to get this as you continually prove your inability to read.

2.) 01 Mar 2016 19:06:54
Come come poet, your excruciating desire to be correct is clouding your solid (alleged) judgement of the game

Thank you for your description of the rudimentary aspects of the football pitch and positional play. I suspect a more sophisticated analysis won't be forthcoming.

let me be clear for you, In my initial post I started RD should not have played Allen as a winger. You intervened with some spurious claim that he was actually playing a role that makalele and pirlo played. I suspect this interjection was driven by a need to exhibit your greater expertise and knowledge of football. That failed.

As a last resort you cling to semantics. I didn't say you said Pirlo played on the wing in fact the opposite is true. You said Scott Allen was playing the position Pirlo and Makalele played. this is of course complete balderdash and the phrase hoisted on your own petard seems apt.

Remember the great and not so great wingers you have seen, jinky, gento beckham, John Robertson Arthur graham, Stan Matthews. they all had different styles, some would beat a man down the line, some would go inside, others would try to get to the bye line while some would favour cutting inside or crossing early. They were described and defined by their position on the pitch.

Certainly Allen believed he was deployed on the wing and waited until he was moved inside as a tactical switch following the sending off.

I think it is you who can't get it, you really should try though as clinging desperately to a flawed narrative makes you look foolish and boorish.

3.) 01 Mar 2016 22:01:15
I didn't say that at all. Go back and read it. There's no point in going over any of this- you either can't read, or refuse to.

4.) 01 Mar 2016 22:53:43
No more of this nonsense from either of us

love and peace brother.

Deep river it didn't seem like he got a shout to leave so he can't, anyway the biggest flaw was how easily they got down our right side. Anyway my point is that he may not be up to scratch for us but he was on the park giving his all, never shirked a tackle, never just kicked the ball out the park and stuck to his task against two of the top strikers in the world and morons in the stand pretending to be be celtic supporters think it is OK to boo him.

Efe was unfortunate with the Og he had to go for the ball. He has been the best defender tonight, and those morons booing him shouldn't consider themselves celtic fans no excuse for that at all.

Fair enough Ed, I don't have as much knowledge about this as others. just out of interest and not to start a debate did he admit to making threats to harm this woman.

{Ed007's Note - Yes mate he admitted it. If he hadn't he would have been sacked. He also wasted money on lawyers and court costs trying to put a D-Notice on the story.}

DN 30 you are so right everyone is entitled to their opinion. Mine is a man is innocent until proven guilty can you direct me to any convictions NL has for his thuggish behaviour? he is undoubtedly the victim of many crimes.

For your information I am not part of any clique my comments about RD never once referred to any personal issue or criticism. I only spoke about his ability in relation to managing the team. But I can say now to you I was right and you were wrong this is incontrovertible.

please also stay away from the caps lock key it is just bad manners.

{Ed007's Note - Come on Grout, Lennon publicly apologised about it all and was lucky to keep his job at Bolton over it.}

Rab what went wrong was the game plan was completely wrong we surrendered too much possession and let them play their way into the game. Falling behind twice meant we were constantly chasing. It was a disastrous decision by Delia and I am so glad he is not in charge tomorrow. By the way I don't think there was a. Celtic player no trying during that game.

What a shame digi all that time standing in the jungle and you didn't know what you were watching. Just out of interest were you facing the pitch. Do you know why the financially doped rangers didn't thrash us game after game when we had hopeless players and managers. Paul McStay that's why! I watched him play them almost himself and I thanked God he was in our team. No more of this nonsense please for your own sake it's just plain rubbish.

What a moronic contribution. Paul McStay was incredible. When he was the captain the team and the club was in dire straits. Yet despite all that he had the guts to stay with us, when he could have moved to any number of clubs. I wish he was able to play now. If you think we got better because he retired you shouldn't bother watching football perhaps try Sesame Street on a Saturday.

I love celtic and will do so wherever that play but there are lots of things I don't like about playing in our league now. let's be honest we play in a league where the governing body not only condone but actively support a club that cheats at every level. They conspire to ensure we are disadvantaged at every opportunity. Without doubt referres cheat against us, either that or they all suffer from transient visual difficulties triggered by the sight of green and white jerseys.

We play in a country were the first thought of the complete media structure is how to diminish us, our success is despised. in the last week we have had a negative story almost every day, which are mostly ridiculous, we are deemed to be wrong by paying transfer fees for good players, we should not have accepted an invitation to play amongst the elite of Europe etc.

While we still play in Scotland I will take great delight in dominating the league and hopefully we should get ten in a row! but if we get a chance to leave them and their predujice behind then I would be delighted.
