Ed, seeing reports this morning that Brendan's going in for wee Patrick Roberts. Realistically what do you think our chances are of getting the boy back to Celtic? . I'd love us to bring in a quality centre half but if we only bring in one more player as Brendan suggested on TV last night I'd love it to be wee Roberts. The boy is absolute class with one thing on his mind as soon as he's got the ball, get forward, take on his man and create or score opportunities. Would absolutely love it if we could entice him back up here.

{Ed007's Note - I've said all along that the only problem with signing Roberts would be the price Man City want for him. He won't be a City player by the time this window closes.}

My opinion on the Roberts chase and I don't think it is NOW the Fee but wages! The fact is that Teams like Bournemouth Brighton Huddersfield can offer Roberts 50/ 60k a week!
THIS is the issue.
The only other thing imo is would he come before Qualification has been secured for CL.
I dunno but I get the feeling that the lads head may be swayed by the money.
Whats the thoughts?

{Ed007's Note - Roberts will know the money Celtic are offering him and the Club will know what Roberts is looking for. If they were so far apart in terms of the finances the manager wouldn't come out and speak publicly about it and the Club wouldn't waste it's time trying to do a deal.
If Roberts agent told Celtic whomever Roberts goes to he's looking for £50/60k a week there's no way we'd be able to get a deal done and with Roberts keen on a return he already knows that he won't get that money up here. Remember Dembele chose Celtic for game time and that's happening with more and more young players, Ntcham and Benyu done the same and Chelsea are losing a load of their stockpiled youngsters as they realise they need to play more rather than sit in the reserves picking up their wages, Solanke will have had guarantees about game time.
Roberts moving back here would be a seamless transaction for his personal life, his best friend's here and now his ex-City team mate Ntcham is here, he's played for the manager he knows the Club,the players, the support and the city. He'd be up here winning more trophies, playing European football and developing into a player who when the time is right could move back down south and light up the PL in a few years making us a tidy profit.
I wouldn't be at all surprised if we have a deal already agreed with Roberts in principle and are just just waiting on City.}

I've said it before, all the money from VVD and another £5m on top and he will be worth three times that very soon. Celtic go for it. Driving me nuts.

Well with the crazy money being offered down there, he will be well out of Celtics reach I would think, would Jamie Walker at hearts not be s more realistic target, he is a good winger.

Ed, Surely it's a finance thing they must be waiting in either the expected VVD money or knowing CL monies pending?

I know we take this gamble every flipin' year and it does your / all head/ s in

How much is off the wage bill with letting 21 players go? I don't buy into it doesn't heat up till next month because the season does but if it does it must be again people's/ clubs fiscal margin change with impending window closing! It's NUTTY (Y)

You make a great few points ED, most importantly the fact that if there wasn't a hope of getting a deal done for Roberts surely Brendan would've been out by now saying " look we've enquired and a deal to bring Roberts here is way out of our reach". Just hope it can be done. Think he'd have made a huge difference last week against rosenborg.

{Ed007's Note - The manager knows the fans would love to see Roberts signed so it would be foolish for him to talk about the player knowing a deal couldn't happen. Rodgers must be a smidgen confident that it could happen for him to speak publicly about him.}

After hearing what br said regarding the club being in a position to bring him back must mean the club know what city want for pat and what wages he would want as well. Id say it's just a matter of pep saying he's better off leaving.
