Ed007 have we made a bid for Aiden mcgeady?

{Ed007's Note - No, McGeady's agent contacted CFC but there's been no bid made.}

Sounds promising. McGeady and his agent will know that silly money is not an option so if they have still contacted Celtic then they must be interested in making it happen

{Ed007's Note - Sounds promising... are you actually being serious? What would McGeady have to offer us now, have you seen him play recently? He's one of THE worst players in the EPL, his attitude still stinks and he'll want to be one of our highest paid players.
If McGeady is brought back it won't be a RD signing, Pedro needs to be very careful here, RD isn't going to sit back and let Pedro & John Park force players onto him like NL did.}

Where exactly would McGeady fit in to a Celtic team that already has the strongest midfield it has had in years.

He is no better than Forrest now and I wouldn't mind losing him either.

If money is not an option for him then maybe Aberdeen or Hibs will be interested.

Cheers again ed007!
I don't think he will bring anything better to the team!

{Ed007's Note - He's nowhere near the level he was at when he was here and even then I wasn't a fan, as a team we've moved on from his cut inside and ballooned shots in the hope something comes off.}

not sure where all the Anti McGeady stuff is coming from, I for one don't doubt his ability at all, he left us for £9m remember and moved to a much better league and as far as i'm aware Spartak Moscow were more than happy with him while there, granted he had a disappointing season last year but he did start well with Everton but the manager preferred to go with Miralles. funny how suddenly Forrest is a better player than McGeady even though he hasn't kicked a ball for 3 seasons

EddieK1888

{Ed007's Note - He left CFC 5 years ago now, is Kris Boyd the same player he was 5 years ago? At Spartak Moscow when his stinking attitude started to show he was disciplined, sent to train with the club's youth team, and then placed on the transfer list after ignoring team orders, he had numerous fall-outs with players and staff at Spartak and they were glad to see the back of him.
Why do you think Martinez preferred Miralles over McGeady after buying him? Just go and ask any Everton fan. Any game I seen him playing in he was awful, he looked overweight and lazy.
On one hand we've got Man Utd fans disappointed over their club selling one of their best young players in Janko to us and we have Everton fans offering to pay for McGeady's ticket out of Liverpool.
Forrest is no better or worse than McGeady, we don't need two of that!}

As an Ireland fan, who follows has followed McGeadys career a lot of the trouble he had in Russia was due to the fact he wouldn't sign a new contract. Moscow were p*ssed to say the least that they wouldn't get a return on there investment.

Source McGeady Everton Press Conference 18th Jan 2014.

McGeady was banished to Spartak's youth team as a result of him not re-signing with his contract due to expire this summer.

"Towards the end I was getting a bit frustrated but I never had any falling-out with the manager," McGeady said.

"In the end it was just a case of they were getting tired of me not re-signing so I ended up getting put in the youth team, which was a good experience."

I feel McGeady could help us in Champions league I think he is suited to AM role where Commons struggles in Champions League. He will know the wages he will be coming to and played and starred in an SPL which was a lot stronger than it currently is.

Rather than waste 2 or 3 million on the Tampons/Pukki/Balde why not spend 1 million on a player who knows the expectation, supports the club and knows what's required.

{Ed007's Note - I didn't believe it when he said it and I don't believe it now.}

Ed,

I actually believe it :)

Spartak's general director, Roman Askhabadze, admitted the club are willing to let McGeady, whose contract expires at the end of the season, leave for the right price in January.

"The club is willing to discuss a new contract for Aiden at any time," he told a Scottish national newspaper

Doesnt seem like something you would say about someone you want to get rid off.

{Ed007's Note - Well it's a different story than the one I heard coming out his own mouth at a family wedding but hey ho.
Do you really think we should be signing players because they know the expectations and supports the club? That seems more like an Ibrox strategy to me.
If RD has any say in this McGeady won't be a CFC player.}

Ronny could get the best out of him, I've no doubts about that. He'll get him sharper and fitter like he has done with the rest of the team. In terms of ability McGeady is far better than any of our wingers, you only have to look at his goal against Georgia to see that the ability is still there.

{Ed007's Note - That's a nice little fantasy you've got going there.}

Mcgeady is not better than mackay stephen and he's not even finished developing yet

there is no doubt that McGeady still has the ability, I went to Dublin for the republic match and myself and all the other scotland fans were delighted when he was ruled out of the game with Injury, LM67 is right to highlight his goal against Georgia and would Martin O'Neil still be picking him if he was fat and lazy,he is one of the very few real talents that have come through our youth system and been successful. the league is shaping up to be as boring next year as it has been for the last few. might be a bit more exciting with McGeady and GMS on the pitch.

Just wanted to add my bit here , what we know is McGeady fell out with Boruc (big mistake) ;-) , he fell out with Strachan (for being accused of being LAZY) he fell out with NL for the same now that's a lot of fall outs!

Now am reading above he fell out in Russia and now @ Everton!

We have 6 or 7 good young players vying for 3 places

At 28 or 29 he has two good seasons in him at most as IMO your a spent force at 31 as a winger with a few exceptions

We don't need him IMO

Surprised so many people think we are above McGeady. Our European exploits last season were hardly impressive. Someone with so much european and international experience would surely benefit us

13.) 02 Jul 2015
02 Jul 2015 20:33:29
Don't know why he is being conpared with Forrest? Forrest is injured 80% of the time so it doesn't make any difference if he is better or worse if he got signed he would start by default no doubt. Think that celtic could do worse but only if he got fit. He's a fat git. We have GMS but I don't know how good the cover is for him. Is McGeady better than stokes?

14.) 02 Jul 2015
02 Jul 2015 21:38:28
Fat / overweight- would the specialist dieticians accept this at an EPL club? No
Comparisons with Forrest - what is the point of that argument?
29 years old - so what if the transfer fee n wage is structured in Celtic favour. When did 29 become nowadays?
"Falling out" with colleagues - so what, happens in everyday working life. All of a sudden Boruc etc the Angels and players we should all look up to & hope our children aspire to be - reflect back on the actions of ex players
Subject to transfer fee & possibilty of shipping Stokes out door - would we be better off- personally speaking - yes
Overall squad enhancement? Yes, stokes, derk & other loanees wages removed. Positive
Reflecting on the massive lost finance on forward going players over last several seasons I do t understand the negativity surrounding this. Bearing in mind the player never forced a transfer when he moved & brought in significant £ fee

15.) 02 Jul 2015
02 Jul 2015 22:15:15
Well put Steve totally agree. I'm hoping he comes back,was one of my favourites before he left and I don't mind a player with a bit of attitude anyway,I've no worries about him fitting into any team system as he already proved in Russia he can adapt when required.

16.) 02 Jul 2015
02 Jul 2015 22:51:56
one of the most overated one trick ponies I've ever seen in my life.

17.) 03 Jul 2015
03 Jul 2015 00:35:23
Jjjtim, what was ure opinion when we secured the then highest transfer fee?
I'll ask the question again, moving certain players on and if the financials are to be believed is if not a positive move?
Should we keep derk who cost £2.8 plus ££££ wages with no return or look to bring another you tube signing with a vowel at end of name?
I'm appalled at negative vibes around this & struggling to see the argument. If we were talking 7 fig transfer fee n break bank wage then ok, not even got to that yet.
Maybe we should laud Cifti who can play left mid, upfront but comes with major baggage yeah?
Just a few problems over when he cld play n is that the player we want. Lot of posters on here who are ott with moral outlook when suits

18.) 03 Jul 2015
03 Jul 2015 02:52:16
nothing to do with moral outlooks and yes granted we received a huge fee for him. do you not think signing him would be a huge step backwards after securing mackay steven and armstrong who in my opinion are better prospects and far more versatile

19.) 03 Jul 2015
03 Jul 2015 08:16:10
Personally I like a player who has a wee trick up his sleeve,don't see a problem having both GMS and McGeady on the park,a wee bit of flair that has been in short supply recently.

@ Stevo, yes w got a good fee for him and it was good business but that does not convince me that he was a good player. Over at Ibrokes, they got around the same for Hutton ad he is, was and always will be crap. Also, the last thing that we need just now is someone with an attitude to disrupt the dressing room. I personally liked to watch McGeady when h was on his game but cannot see him training the way RD wants or him seeing "teamwork" as being a priority.
I would rather bring in nobody than risk disrupting the dressing room
